Other confirmed stars include 金银姬, 沈金兴, 曾诗梅, 陈泰铭 and will announce the remaining roles once I get hold of the final list inlcuding the name of the No.1 bitch. 星洲之夜（30集）is written by Ang Eng Tee 洪荣狄 (‘The Little Nyonya’) and has 谢敏洋 as the Executive Producer. Top song writer are writing many original songs for this drama (more on that in a later post).
The drama will be shot in Shanghai at the movie set of 十月围城 Bodyguards and Assassins (starring Donnie Yen, Nicholas Tze and Leon Lai) and some parts of Malacca. Production begins in June and telecast on Channel 8 at 9pm from 22 November.

quite frankly, i supposed the role of song qiao er is to be the mean ‘bitch’ and yu hong to be the ‘good’ character… however i find myself leaning towards song qiao er in the show despite obviously she is an evil character… the reason for that leaning was because i realised the acting of JP seemed to have portrayed yu hong’s character as a ‘kuai lan’ woman instead of a strong headed or otherwise a righteous character…. JP come across to me, in my opinion, as too over the top in her portrayal of the character and resulted in making me dislike the yu hong… i didnt even make sure to watch every episode because of the poor portrayal despite the fact that 715 is one of my fav talented actor… and the actress for song qiao er (forgot her real name) i find her better in acting than JP which i am surprised myself… i rather be watching the drama for the sake of watching the mean song qiao er than the weird confusing acting of JP…. for the love of god, pls no more JP in ‘good’ roles cos she cant seem to fit in such character playing

Hi Paul, I had been awaiting for the blockbuster of 2011 ever since the start of the year yet the cast seriously put me off. Why Joanne of so many people? It’s not that I don’t like her but obviously, she don’t fit the role and everything. Well, maybe for the bitchy part, it might come out naturally for her. Well, whatever but still, thanks for putting newbies like Julie (she’s new but I think she totally fit the personality of Jiu Mei – innocent, pretty) and Desmond. A big risk, indeed. If I am watching this show, do be grateful for the choice of putting Qi Yu Wen, Chen Han Wei & Julie Tan.
But may I ask, if Jeanette would have a choice of being nominated as one of the 10 favourite actresses since best actress wouldn’t be possible since she have no drama this year? ): Please do reply, thanks.

Looking at this fight between the JP vs JA fans makes me miss the days of the 7 princesses.
During that time, it was a 7 way fight as everyone argued over who will be the next Ah Jie and even the media lapped it up! So exciting when the 7 princesses fought for a spot in Top 10! Now so boring, only 3 way fight! Hope Felicia and Jessica come back to mediacorp soon to compete for the Star Awards again. It will be great if Fiona and Dawn return as well but I think that is quite unlikely…
Its such a pity that Mediacorp didnt produce a Blockbuster drama featuring the 7 princesses! That will be a much more epic fight that Fann Vs Zoe! Maybe thats why the Ultimatum flopped!

you can say that jeanette is good, but obviously joanne’s much better. Admit it, jeanette’s acting is so fake and unnatural. Plus her voice is absolutely horrible. Joanne’s voice so sweet, she acts well and she’s so pretty! That’s why she was landed this role. its not that jeanette aw can’t act. She CAN ACT and she is amazing at it, you can really see she is very absorbed into her role. It is just that at times, she puts in place on-stage acting skills which are suppose to be elaborated. I just hope that we do not put down any actresses, they are all good. Just support who you think is best without critisizing the others.

Some how I couldn’t figure out JP in olden days role with dated hair and cheongsam. To me she would suitable in modern role with her height and SPG look. Guess EP has no choice since there are limited artiste to choose, and the 1st choice are not available. For blockbuster and not risking potential viewership, it would be better to reschedule the filming and continue to search or wait for the 1st choice artistes to be available.

Obviously we know nothing is forever. Jeanette Aw cant be forever year after year acting in blockbusters drama. Jeanette is really sincere, its not about the blockbusters but the script. Jeanette will not go ALL OUT like someone to grab attention and secure the lead role. She will naturally let nature take its course and do her best. People chose her as they believe in her. This time round, it may be a blessing since she got other opportunities.
Now ppl shld complain that it was dear Joanne who get BLOCKBUSTERS drama year after year. And this year is the worst. Now we know the jealousy against Jeanette aye? Sincerely hope that Mediacorp can produce another excellent drama, which will be well received not only locally but also internationally, like the Little Nyonya. Hope the drama will bring the Singapore drama production to a greater height. So the pairing of 715 and JA is a must. Still remember the Little Nyonya cheered many of us up in December 2008. Everybody rushed home to watch Little Nyonya. Thanks to the good acting of 715, JA, Cynthia Koh, and Darren Lim. Both JA and 715 have the substance and their pairing in a drama can make a difference. Good drama can only leave a long lasting legacy when the lead actor and actress have the best chemistry!

Dear Irritating Guy, your dear Joanne has never been successful. Whatever recognition from professional judges? Its super easy for Joanne, act in a supporting role in TLN and get BestActress for it for such sub-standard performance. Is it a convincing win? Win it only if you are able to win it with grace and respect from the audience. Look at RuiEn, she won it. Though many are desolated that Jeanette still did not win, we are satisfied and in respect for her performance and improvements throughout the year. That is obviously, something of higher importance! She picks it up as easily as ABC, winning BestInfoEd host but failing to impress the audience. Wheres the respect that she deserve from members of the public? I think Julie is quite a refreshing choice, albeit risky one. Hopefully she would work very hard to prove that she can handle the role well and produce an outstanding and consistent performance throughout her role delivery. The casting list seems good, was kind of expected (except for Desmond Tan and Chen Han Wei for the supporting no.1 evil role, hahah). I’m all positive for this drama. It would be a welcomed choice if Jessica Liu is given the opportunity to potray the role of Song Qiao Er. That would kind of spice up the drama, hahaaH
As ppl had mentioned before, Rui En has already proven that she can always deliver a fantastic performance in small budget dramas. And surprisingly, these dramas had interesting plots to entice the viewers. I’m very looking forward to watch her in “Code of Honour”, hehe. erm seriously. Followers? Jeanette started Twitter much later than Joanne and she wasnt tweeting as regularly now that she have shifted much of her focus overseas. Jeanette have triumphed over your dear Joanne for many many local voting competition and obviously, she is one of the least popular amongst the 7princesses despite her seemingly cavernous ”followers”.
For once, she does not have any so-called sizzling chemistry with any male co-stars. Look at Jeanette, she was often romantically linked with QiYuWu since her debut and now, her pairings is just getting younger with DaiYangTian. So if in any way, dear Joanne thinks she can have that spark with 715, thats not going to happen anytime soon cause the audience clearly wants Jeanette and 715. Joanne can never matched up to the hype. Despite her coming out with 715 in the star awards show, trying her very ”best” to give the impression that she and 715 is the real popular couple, it backfired thoroughly. It would be much of a hot topic if 715 could be a little bit more courageous to reject Joanne and walked out with Jeanette instead. Its simply OBVIOUS who are the sought after onscreen pairs.
Next, Joanne has never won any competitive voting competition. She was always edged out easily in the preliminary rounds. Jeanette Aw has been constantly picking up the Best Local Celebrity Blog award organised by omy for 3years. This year, it remains to be observed. She edged out hot favourites Nat Ho, FeliciaChin, Fann and even Joanne etc to claim the coveted award. And since 2008, Jeanette picked up popularity trophy regularly from the 4characters sweep at the Countdown Party to the Favourite Female Character last year and the Best Local Onscreen Couple. RuiEn have proved herself to be ultra popular in recent years too. Even Felicia Chin at her peak, swept 2 favouritecharacters in 2008, edging out Joanne Peh hot favourite from Little Nyonya. And through the years, she lost out on many competitions FYI. Please admit that she is not the ‘popular’ and ‘hype’ kind.
And as if winning BestActress, Best Info-ed host, best etc would prove anything. Face it, Joanne is not really popular and acting as a baddie will make the audience reject her even more.

Merely three times… What’s more the latest Best Actress nomination she got for her performance in “Your Hand in Mine” was heavily criticized by the mass audience. It is not as good as how you people make her out to be. Till today, there are still people out there who do not recognize her win in 2009.

Why such an urgent need to push newbies to act in Blockbuster? Why not let them act in smaller role and gradually improve on their acting skills, and slowly gain the recoginion? Letting them act in a blockbuster when they are not ready will only attract more critisism. Desmond Tan is clearly not a lead material yet. Julie Tan has the potential, but she need to polish more on the finer details on her acting.
Joanne Peh is an actress who I do not want to watch.
I guess 715 is the only reason why I may be watching this drama.

Charlie Sheen started his Twitter account just not long ago but he already has amassed almost 4 million followers so time is not much of a factor.
Its common knowledge that both Joanne and Jeanette are on Twitter since they are both active on the site so if Jeanette is really as popular as people make her out to be, she should have no problem gaining more followers easily. So time can only be a factor if people do not realise Jeanette is on twitter. Plus its been almost 2 years since both actors started on twitter and that is more than enough time for Jeanette to catch up which obviously she has not done or even close to doing!

At least “The Little Nyonya” had 2 princesses in it.
We only have 1 in “A Song To Remember” unless Jesseca Liu fills up the last spot and play 宋巧儿.
I agree with what someone has said below, Desmond Tan and Julie Tan is just a pun intended joke from the Executive Producers.
What’s more, why get the least popular princess to act in it? Joanne Peh? Rui En or Jeanette Aw would’ve been a much better choice.
This drama is so going to flop unless fans of Qi Yu Wu can rally enough support for this drama.
I don’t see how the absence of Dai Yang Tian, Elvin Ng, Jeanette Aw, and Rui En is going to do this drama any good. They are the ones who will rave in the viewership record, like it or not.
A change is always nice, but not to such a drastic extent.
Extremely disappointing cast… This is not the drama we have all been anticipating for.

Whether a show enjoys high ratings or not depends primarily on whether its storyline is engaging and entertaining enough, NOT BECAUSE OF WHETHER JA, EN, DYT or RE is inside…
This can be seen in recent years where shows like The Ultimatum, despite boasting the top ah jies(Fann and Zoe) and ah ges(LNX and TPH) as well as princess(Felicia) and prince(Elvin Ng) of mediacorp still ultimately flopped. Main reason can be attributed to its weak & unrealistic story plus lousy acting from some of its cast members.
If going by your logic, Together should be the highest rated drama since it had JA, EN and DYT but it lost out to Housewives Holiday which was led by a cast of ‘aunties’ where none of them were considered A-listers.
The Little Nyonya raked in high ratings not because of fans of Jeanette Aw but because of its strong plot, fresh concept and ability to reach out to the non-chinese community due to its theme of a perenakan family. Jeanette and Joanne just HAPPENED to be in the drama…
So while ‘A song to remember’ doesnt have ur precious Jeanette and Rui En, it definitely still has the potential to become highly rated as most of the tv-watching population are not made up of fans but just regular people who will tune in to watch a show as long as its good.
Even our Ah Ge Tay Ping Hui said recently in an 8days interview that no artiste should take credit for a drama’s high ratings but the high ratings are a combination of many various factors.
So Catherine please wake up your idea!
And Joanne is not the least popular princess, she has ALOT more followers than Jeanette. Its just that her fans are not as outspoken and annoying as the JA and RE fans!

In my opinion, either Jessica Liu or Felicia Chin are the best candidates for the role. Both used to be princesses afterall plus their fanbase remains strong despite their absense. Both also have the acting chops to carry off the role and the return of them to our tv screens will definitely generate some buzz and FREE publicity!
But apart from them, I think Rebecca Lim should be considered as well. Afterall she won Best Actress at the Asian Tele Awards so she definitely has substance!

i m a fan of RE and i cant stand Joanne Peh… she makes me cringe each time she appears on tv… the only reason she can win awards is due to her need to flaunt her fake assets..
on that note.. it is great that she has been acting with RE as you can see the great difference in acting skills and popularity.
u truly underestimate her Un-popularity and i believe fans from all over cannot stand such a fake person. Getting an award for hosting info-ed program truly tops it off.. She is probably popular amongst EPs and bosses for her ability to flirt and willingness to ”take it all off”

Glad that Paul likes Joanne Peh as well! I really feel she has matured in her acting by leaps and bounds and she has shown her versatality by excelling in various roles from tomboyish ah lian (Like father like daughter) to the kindhearted Yuzhu tortured into insanity in TLN and finally the duo role in YHIM.
The only reason why she has so many haters is cos ppl are jealous of her. She gives off the impression of an overachiever, she was head prefect in sec.school so that shows she has been excelling since young.
Plus i think her fans are generally very quiet and not as loud as the JA and RE fans. Seriously Joliteers wherever you are need to start speaking up for your idol!!!

But Bill, as the saying goes, the more popular and well-liked a person is, the more haters he/she is bound to have. So I guess there’s a case for rejoicing – since so many people “hates” joanne peh, at least she is recognised and it is most probably because of a certain feeling called JEALOUSY.
& Though I know for sure not all JA supporters are superficial, most like her simply because she’s pretty. (Not that joanne is not). We have all seen for ourselves how WOOD xuan acts, don’t we? Time and again, she was trusted upon with Best Actress roles, but she has repeatedly failed to achieve the honour.

After all the hype , what a disappointing cast. It doesn’t take a teenager to fit the role of 九妹. Very disappointed with the selection of Julie Tan- so new and she has been really bland in her previous roles. Not withstanding the fact that she sprung out of no where and there has been lots of talks on cyberspace that she has got a strong family backing. I’d have thought there’d be more scrutiny and thoughts placed into casting for a drama of this hype.

They say first impression counts.
My first impression of this cast is quite…disappointed.
I think JP doesn’t suit period drama at all. In fact everyone I know think she looks a bit off in TLN.
And I don’t know is it just my social group or what..most people I know think that JP has no guan zhong yuan. She’s more suited for endorsement. And a few of the important cast goes to artiste that are too new. Viewership may not be good though it might possibly be a good opportunity to improve their acting.

After all the hype , what a disappointing cast. It doesn’t take a teenager to fit the role of 九妹. Very disappointed with the selection of Julie Tan- so new and she has been really bland in her previous roles. Not withstanding the fact that she sprung out of no where and there has been lots of talks on cyberspace that she has got a strong family backing. I’d have thought there’d be more scrutiny and thoughts placed into casting for a drama of this hype.

To be honest, I don’t want to talk anything related to “Song to remember” because it makes me angry with cast releasing. This morning, I received a message from my friend talking about this topic that’s why I need to share my last message here.
My friend spent her time to count these comments. Out of 81 comments, 25 comments is about Jeanette, This means many people pay much attention to talk about Jeanette.
By the way, I want to suggest that Jeanette does not fit the first female lead as an evil role at all because she is the beautiful and kind princess.
Just forget about this drama because it is meaningless now.
Let’s focus on her new dramas of Destiny in her hand and Qian jing. Hope she will become more and more popular with these achievemnts not only in Singapore but also in Overseas.

Honestly, why are people being such a wet blanket here? Firstly, how would you know that they aren’t capable of bringing out the roles? If they weren’t suitable, they wouldn’t be chosen in the first place. And always JA, DYT, EN, RE not sian meh? Indeed they are capable actors/actress but they are also busy their own schedule and it’s also time for a change.
Personally, the cast list is very refreshing. Though I’m rather surprised to see Joanne, Julie & Desmond, but I’m sure they fitted the role well to be chosen. Looking forward to Chen Han Wei’s performance. Never really see him in blockbuster dramas before, somemore is a major baddie role.
But how come always choose Taiwanese actress for mdc shows nowadays? Like Wang Xin Ru being cast in Devotion was so out of the blue. It seemed as though mdc has run out of artistes to seek for overseas artiste. No offence, but I really feel that this no 1 bitch role should use our own singaporean actress.

My first concern is if the 35 yo 715 still be able to exude the 傻气 of a 20s guy.
Recently when I saw a pic of him, he already shows signs of a mature guy.
Next, y not consider Eelyn kok for the role of the no. 1 bitch? She certainly deserves more than being a supporting role with her ability. Her age matches that to the role and to JP too.
For the rest of the cast, I would really like to applaud the team for the courage to use Desmond and Julie. Given the right opportunity and grooming, I am sure they will be able to make it.

Yes, they may not be meant as a couple in TLN but Jp’s character in TLN certainly did carried a torch for 715′s character. And as much as 715 chose JA, the audience also choose them tgt without any qualms. They have been a solid and much sought after pair and the audience would not be receptive of another new pair and also in the same setting and olden days. Yes, I would certainly take a look at CLIF for their chemistry, that is if they have. And Paul arent u contradicting yourself? 2 back to back couple pairing in a span of less than 6months, can the audience take it? If its good, it would be less of a problem, yet it will be a risk if they dont have that spark.

Hmm..actually Joanne looks nice in cheongsum. Her acting also quite convincing. Only thing is i dislike her singing. Also, for julie, i dislike her speaking voice. If its for modern idol show, doesn’t matter, but if its for the oldies, and a successful musical drama, more convincing if we get others to sing on their behalf. Why not get them to lip-sync? Joanne good looks and a suitable voice would make the show better. i hope the EP can consider that. Get those Pss superstars to sing if can’t get overseas singers loh. In the 1980s, i recall got a few shows like 舞谢歌台 Their songs are sang by professionals but the artistes lip sync. Its very nice. At least the artistes can concentrate on acting.

Firstly, I am not here to spoil the fun or be a wet blanket because my idol is not inside the cast. I am here just to give my personal opinions on the casting, my very personal though I know that changes would unlikely be made anymore. To start of, the most glaring and obvious mistake in the casting is the lack of chemistry between co-stars. This is apparent and I find it hard to believe that the casting committee are oblivious to the situations.
QiYuWu matches the role to a T. He’s simply perfect and with his fantastic acting skills, it would not be a problem for it to achieve the same level of emotions shown in The Little Nyonya. However, paring up Joanne Peh once again with qiyuwu? Are they really compatible? Do they really have sizzling hot chemistry? In TLN, it was 715&Jeanette that was in demand. And their separation at the ending left truckloads of audience in buckets of tears. THAT is the level on chemistry the co-stars should have. And NO, I am not saying Jeanette Aw should be casted. She is currently busy, and no-no, the audience would NEVER like to see another ill-fated paring. Of course, we should create and build new couple pairings but Jp have been paired with 715 many times already and there is simply no spark. Paul how?

And Julie Tan is rising yet it may be too early a time to put her here. And she seems too young and innocent to be paired with 715.

Desmond Tan seems relatively inexperienced and it would great to see him bring depth to the character.

And I thought RuiEn, Fann Wong should be given a chance to be casted in the roles and it would be a refreshing change. This time round, the casts seems pretty messy and they lack the cohesion and previous fantastic track records that prove that they have the merits to take on their respective roles. Yes, there may be some good ones like 715, yet some of the casts are very very new.
Yes and do remember to bring in 715 and Jeanette Aw for another romantic comedy ASAP…

i hope to see more “EXPERIENCED” actors and actresses in the year-end blockbusters…
just like how guo liang and pan ling ling are in “breakout” last year.
hope DYT and HJX don’t appear too much. they were already given 2 year-end dramas to prove themselves, but it didn’t work.. So I think it’s time to change that.
please don’t create a blockbuster for the sake of just making “newbies” popular…
look at the blockbuster dramas from hongkong, their cast is always made up of the BEST actors and actresses, that’s why they manage to garner many acting awards in the award presentation.

The casting committee must be crazy, Desmond Tan 陈炯江 as 2nd lead?? He didn’t even act well given a small role in breakout. Please don’t torture the viewers with his ang mo Mandarin. OMG, this is blockbuster and he will ruin this drama acting with experience actors & actresses. A suitable candidate should be Zhang zhen huan, at least viewers see his improvement drama after drama.

Do you really think zhang zheng huan fit the role??? I think you should check out the description of the character again. I feel desmond tan really fits the role well. So glad that mediacorp is giving him such great opportunity, would like to see more of him in other dramas!
