Breaking News: Fiona Xie 谢宛谕 Pulled Out of Year-End 台庆剧 ‘当我们同在一起 Together’

So Sudden. So Immediate. So little time left.

Fiona Xie was one of the main leading actresses (Jeanette Aw is the other lead) specially chosen for the year end 台庆剧 2009’s Anniversary drama ‘Together 当我们同在一起’ . Filming is due to start (lensing ceremony at 10am), Fiona had already read the scripts and done up her imaging with a new set of clothes specially tailor-made for her (she has the most number of fashionable wears in the drama) but…

“With regrets, Fiona Xie has to pull out of this blockbuster to attend to some urgent personal matters,” says the official reply from her manager.

Fiona was given the role of Huang Jing Hao – someone who is beautiful, sexy and materialistic. This is the favorite role of our dear writer Ang Eng Tee (who wrote ”The Little Nyonya’). It is one of those roles that will leave a strong impression and probably get the artiste a nomination for Best Actress in Star Awards 2010 (if played well). It is a difficult and challenging role as the actress must be able to win over the audience’s sympathy at the end and not end up becoming a subject of much hatred.

With her sudden withdrawal, the production team has jumped into an emergency mode to look for a worthy replacement. Within such a short time, this replacement must be credible enough to lead the drama, digest the entire 35 episodes of scripts faster than any other existing artistes in the show (who started reading the scripts more than 3 weeks ago) and tailor-make a whole new set of wardrobe. I understand that several actresses within and outside MediaCorp are being considered now…

It is a pity that Fiona has withdrawn from it as such a role doesn’t come by easily. The replacement actress will be one lucky gal. It is also one role which will come with alot of pressure to do well, maybe to prove to everyone out there that she is worthy to be the ‘IT’ actress for the coveted role, not just a ‘Fiona’s replacement’.

The lensing ceremony will take place at 10am on Wednesday. ‘Together’ is Ch 8’s 46th Anniversary drama written and produced by the same talents behind ‘The Little Nyonya’. Set against the changing landscape of Singapore’s history in the 60s-80s, its cast of young and veterans include such stars as Dai Yang Tian, Elvin Ng, Kola Zhou, Zhang Zhen Huan, Zheng Ge Ping, Hong Hui Fang, Ailen Tan, Lee Wen Hai, Constance Song, etc.

I wll keep all posted on who will become the lucky star soon…by the way, what in your opinion could be the reason Fiona pulled out suddenly and which star is your choice to take over this role?

I do hope Rui En got the chance to act in blockbuster role since she haven do any yet. Try new role will help her go further. I believe she will do better and digest the scripts fast .Her acting has improve incredibly fast . I believe if she was given the chance , she will do her best and will not disappoint the audience. =)

Personal matters? Shotgun marriage?

Within mediacorp, the obvious choice is Paige Chua bah, she was quite credible in Just in Singapore, in which she played a materialistic character with conviction. Koh Yah Hwee also not bad but her current hairstyle don seem to suit the character, or maybe can get the Malaysian actress Tiffany Leung? Though it is quite evident that none of them is near the sexy and beauty level of Fiona. A pity Rui En is filming a new show now, otherwise it would have been great to see her tackle a somewhat different role, that wld be a real test to her acting skills, i wish they would drop Ruien from her current show in Quan Jia Fu ( the bubbly gal role? C’mon this kind of role will never earn her a star awards best actress nom).

Since the above actresses are not involving in any other production at the moment, maybe, there’s a chance for one of them.

Will the EP consider actresses like 陈靓瑄 or 刘芷绚 who are involving in 《添丁发财》? Actually, why not? Since 郭舒贤 and 许美珍 can both involve in 《企鹅爸爸》and 《全家福》and in between the broadcast of these 2 shows is the year end BB《当我们同在一起》.

Another thing, can you reveal the other supporting casts for this year end BB《当我们同在一起》since filming is going to start ?

I smell a conspiracy. MDC probably already has a replacement lined up. And the purpose of this last-minute hand-wringing is just to create news, stir up controversy and drum up anticipation for the drama.

But I’ll play the game anyway. I think both Ezann Lee and Rebecca Lim would be nice choices; I liked their retro looks in Fighting Spiders. How about Dawn Yeoh? She played streetsmart type of girls in Rhythm Of Life and Dream Catchers. Or the actress who played Jin Feng in The Golden Path? Priscelia Chan? Koh Yah Hwee?

hmmm to give my 2 cents worth, i feel that ‘ye rong jia’ who acted in ‘yuan zhi hui’ could be someone to consider.

++ she’s taiwanese, so her mandarin and the script shouldn’t be that much of a problem…

i suggest Jesseca! =).

firstlty, she has great chemistry with Elvin! that’s undeniable.

secondly, her acting improved quite alot now (in her latest Malaysian drama – Romantic Delicacies) since her last show (The Dream-Catchers). in the malaysian drama, she acted as a materialistic person who betrays the guys who loves her. in a way, she’s a rather mean person in the show too. she managed to portray her role in the show really well.

anyway, that’s just my suggestion. hopefully the suggestion of casting Jesseca in the year end blockbuster will be considered. =)

fiona is totally irresponsible. just because of her, the whole production team may have to delay filming. i guess it wont be able to complete as scheduled now that they have to reselect an actress for this role and the actress also need to be given time for memorising the script. jesseca is too plain jane to act as this role, fel is not suitable for this role( if she gets it, it will mean overexposure and ppl will get sick of her), dawn is okay but she need to remove her act cute self. IMO, rui en is the most suitable as using her will be a fresh pairing and it have been a long time ruien didnt film this kind of show. try asking her to drop out of the cny show.

Rebecca Lim portrayed the prostitute in Fighting Spiders very well, with a mix of sexiness, vulnerability and gumpton. plus she can use back her wardrobe from that show for this one. Problem might be her grasp and proficiency in Mandarin.

The other potential candidate will be Dawn Yeoh, who might pull it off.

What happen to Fiona? She has been complaining that Mediacorp is not giving her a meaty role on Ch 8, but now that she got it, she just gave up like at the
last minute? I think she should be cold-storaged. Whatever personal reasons, she has a responsiblity to carry out her work commitment. The only reason that she must quit this production is an unplanned pregnancy.

One look across your stable of artistes, I really can’t think of any.

RE-sexy????; FC-sexy???? DY-sexy????? JP-sexy????? she looks more serious than sexy. JL-too matured. Paige-too matured & cold. Ezann & Rebecca-not gorgeous & not sexy. Though FX suits this role, but her weird accent will be
a turn-off.

Fann may have the look & acting chops, but she doesn’t fit into the same age category of the other leads. Same for Ann & Apple. And I believe Mediacorp make this drama to groom the next gen of A-listers, so likely
those above 30 won’t be considered anymore.

But Paul, if you get someone younger, then JA will look out of place, as she’s
already 30. In fact, pairing 24 yrs old DYT with 30 yrs old JA is already a mistake. JA should pair with Elvin. DYT should pair with someone younger.

If you have to search for someone in the modelling, then this model will surely outshine Kola & JA, being tall, sexy & fresh-faced. If this model can also speak fluent Mandarin, then JA will surely kena blast again.

Looks like you got a tough job.

Just read yesterday TNP article, I feel zoe still don’t get it.

Nobody is saying she must look wrinkle-free. People are complaining
that she’s too wrinkled to play a character younger than her real age.
Paul, do you get what the viewers mean?

If zoe is playing a 41 yrs old mother to teenagers, nobody will complain about her wrinkles. That’s so simple. Whether she wants to do botox or not is her own business. But if she wants to play roles younger than her actual age, then
she has to face criticisms from the viewers. That’s what we are all talking about.

Zoe herself has admitted she didn’t take care of her skin until her 20s, that caused her pre-mature ageing. In fact, she already got wrinkles when she was
in her 20s. As an artiste, it’s your responsibility to look good, unless you are
prepared to do mother & aunty roles.

I hope zoe, media & mediacorp get what the viewers meant.

OMG..I thought it’s a joke you play on us again. Though I’m not a fan of her, but it’s just so sudden. My guess is she had other better job opportunity elsewhere? For eg, being a lead in some big movie out there? I dunno… Can’t find a better reason.

As much as I want RE to be in this blockbuster, I dun think she is suitable for this role. I know that As Paul mentioned, there are kissing scenes inside (unless they change the script for her). But it’s still impossible as she is now in that CNY drama.

Eelyn Kok would not be a bad choice. Hope you all dun find a china artiste (unless really bo bian) agian. Bcos if that is the case, then 2/3 of the main casts are from there.

i think should get a not very tall one to replace. somehow i feel that the character should a ‘jiao xiao’ one.. a pity that fiona dropped out. not quite responsible, honestly. but i guess she has her reasons. this is very last min though! i dont think jesseca, joanne, eelyn, ruien, paige fit the bill.. hopefully the production team can find a suitable replacement. and dont anyhow get people to take up this role.

Personally I think Elvin enjoys the best chemistry with Rui En as his better performances recently are the two he has collaborated with her. (Although it might be kinda boring to see them together again.)

As what Paul said, I guess unless Rui En agrees to the kissing scenes or the script is modified (both of which seem so impossible), if not we should all drop that thought of her being included, even if I think her steady acting would add credibility to the cast (honestly, the names that has been suggested thus far are not our usual leads kind of material for obvious reasons, all the steady ones had been “snapped” up by other dramas)</em?.

If this drama is so important, perhaps good enough and suitable artistes should be released from other dramas.

I can only wish the production team luck. BTW did lensing still took place just now?

Fann cannot la.. If u ask Fann to act as second lead alongside JA, that’s definitely no way!! Asking an ah-jie to play second fiddle to a princess is a definite no-no.

I think Felicia Can make it,although she is busy with Baby Bonus.Thinking about the role which she acted along with the Campus Superstars 2 years back or so,she has the near similarity of the role.

Has Ruien new drama started filming? I dun think so right, ya i agree with someone who mentioned earlier that if this show is the so-called blockbuster of the year and is so important, then i believe it is justifiable to get a good actress like RE to fill in the shoes of Fiona Xie, even if it means dropping her from her current show.
If the show already started filming like the 180 episode drama, then no choice lah, it wld be ridiculous to drop someone like JP or Paige to serve as Fiona’s replacement but if RE’s new drama is yet to start filming, and if she is indeed a suitable replacement, then why not. Since the role of Huang Jin Hao is such an indispenable character in the most awaited drama serial of the year, it is not too really too much to ask for to drop her from her current drama.
Moreover, the role of Huang Jin Hao is a very demanding and challenging one, the actress who is going to play the character eventually must not only be beautiful, but also possess solid acting chops and vast experience. I seriously dun see any newcomer capaple of pulling it off, suggestions so far are either too “neng”, too tall or too old la. Ruien is undoubtedly the best choice to play this character, and her character in quan jia fu seems like a very light-hearted one, which shld be a walk in the park, do in the sleep role for most actresses, i can easily think of many names taht could have replaced ruien for her next drama, so Mediacorp shld really consider dropping her from her curent show, must gu quan da ju, quan heng qin zhong ma.

hm.. i think Felicia Chin would be suitable. or maybe rui en. Felicia is quite good but rui en is a little behind. maybe rui en can act in the show so she can show the audiences that she is not so “behind” from the 7 princesses. but fiona not playing the role is quite a waste too, even though i dont like her. its very sudden. the production will be a bit lagging behind time so, they better find a replacement quick.

If someone feel doubt on a certain thing and have to make a very big decision, that could affect her future, IT WILL NOT HAPPEN ONLY IN ONE/TWO/THREE DAYS.

So whatever reasons Fiona has, she should not back out in last minute.
It is very irresponsible. She should say it earlier.
Unless the reason is related to sudden personal health ‘disturbance’.

She is making everybody panic and almost ruin the schedule.
So to all production team, do not get affected by her decision, calm down,
go ahead everything as scheduled. Just postpone a bit her scene taking.

I believe you could find replacement soon.

I think Felicia Chin will be great. Koh Yah Hwee is young and vibrant, but maybe her looks might not suit the olden days. Eelyn Kok is okay lah. Rui En has a very cool look. nnot suitable. jesseca: too old.

in the TU, elvin and fann pairing is new and refreshing…. the most fann look 1 or 2 yrs older den elvin only..

wadmore she act someone that is beautiful, sexy and materialistic in the china production,jin da ban with fan bing bing… its something similar to this role.

the only thing must note of is that standing beside JA.. fann will sure to stand out more.. and they both look abt the same age lor… i dont see much different from the 2 actress.

doing China TV dramas lah. She did TU cos she’s a Mediacorp artiste & so she has to at least fulfil her quota.

Anw, Paul, Fann isn’t free as you think hor. She had already filmed a movie in China, a TV ad in China, attended Film fests in China & Thailand. Now, she’s in HK for a fashion event. After that, she will be going to Japan to film an episode for Ch U variety show, then maybe she’s going to China again for
some project & also her wedding etc. She’s in between breaks now hor.
She has been working non-stop since Nov 08 to Jun 09.

If cannot, then can consider Felicia Chin or Jesseca Liu.

Felicia fits this role in terms of age, looks and figure.. Acting also considered the better ones among MDC young female artistes.

fann wong can act, but dun waste her time in this drama, rather she do with other veterans, since this drama is about promoting the prince n princesses.

based on actresses not tied up in any productions – Eelyn Kok, Koh Yah Hwee, Ezann Lee, Rebecca Lim, Ng Hui – as Paul Chan said earlier, i think Eelyn, Rebecca and even, as suggested by other commenters – Apple Hong and Priscelia Chan can be challenged by this role (: might be worth giving Joey Feng (Jin Feng in The Golden Path) a shot too – her roles have been limited since then.

Weren’t there auditions held for the casting of this blockbuster drama? Who else auditioned for the role of Huang Jinhao? Maybe the most straightforward thing to do would be to simply replace Fiona with whoever was the second choice during casting.

Also how long has the production team known about Fiona’s intention to drop out of the drama? Xin.sg is quoting Fiona’s manager as saying, “谢宛谕在上个星期正式向公司提出辞演的要求，而她自己早前也亲自向制作组表达这方面的意愿。”

Sorry but to say Rebecca and Ezzan doesn’t have lead star quality. They are not so famous yet. Maybe can cast Hongkong stars to act? If that’s possible? What say you, Paul? And, who is those suitable candidates as of now? Refering back to your old blog, you mentioned Dawn & Paige suitable?

to use eelyn kok again is boring altho i think she may fit very well into this role, i think they should not use someone who have already acted in the little nyonya, if not it’s nothing fresh/surprising, which may in turn affects the viewership ratings.

Some suggestions
Maybe can consider
1) Michelle Xie – long time never see her on screen, take this as a come-back from her wedding break?

2) Jade Seah – try her for this first CL drama? she’s got that bitchy and slutty Look, i believe she will pull off the character well!

3) Michelle Chong – someone who is capable of acting many different roles, this maybe a breakthrough in her career?

4) Carole Lin – I believe she still looks very young and will be able to act well all thanks to her many years of experience.

5) Carrie Yeo – She acted well in the little nyonya musical, can try her here?

1. Fiona Xie-only sexy (nothing much), men love her & women hate her
2. Joanne Peh-sporty, sunshine, modern (that’s all she said, does she means JP can’t act & no look, hehe)
3. Dawn Yeoh-grown up now, last time just a little girl with a cute voice

In her recent Malaysian drama,Romantic delicacies, her role is quite similar to this role. Beautiful and seductive, she’s supposed to seduce the 3 male leads in the show. She portrays her role very well in the show..

I believe with jess’s potential, no harm giving her a try at this role. people might want paige chua,rebecca lim or koh yah hwee or any other younger stars for this role.. but i feel that jess is just right for the role. Not to old, or too young. As this is a very challenging role in an important drama, although young stars like paige,rebecca or yah hwee might fit the bill.. but they might be a little bit too inexperience to handle such a big role.

I think this is going to be a mega decision. I hope that it is going to be a experienced actress cos the leads are not really experienced except for Jeanette Aw and Dai Yang Tian. Please, don’t get Xu Yah Hwee or whatever. She didn’t pull off well enough in “My Buddy”. I think Michelle Chia is not that suitable too. Get someone experienced. Prolly Priscelia Chan cos I think she can really act. If she gets this, she’s going to be shot to fame. Cos she has been missing out in Mediacorp Productions for some time. Well , as for my choice of Fiona’s replacement : I think these 2 persons that I have in mind are good candidates worth considering :

1 ) Joey Feng ( aka Jinfeng in 黄金路 The Golden Path ) cos I remember seeing her in some scenes of that Blockbuster Drama Serial looking very sexy ! So , I think she fits the bill .

Belinda Lee will bea good choice. She is sexy, and looks kinda mixed (like Fiona).

Just that Belinda is more likable here.

Yvonne Lim is a sweet character. I dun think she is suitable.

Rebecca Lim’s acting is very raw, as evident in Mi Tu. And she is not exactly ‘jiao xiao’ like fiona. And her figure, if you noticed, its abit disappointing on the chest side.

So, Belinda Lee. I believe she will pull the role well.

Heck care the 180 episode drama la. Usually this kinda drama wun stir up much impression. Just let her character disappear. u guys can do it.

Really a shocking piece of news. Fiona has been in showbiz for so many years & she is not young anymore. I doubt she is so immature to quit the show bcos of its bad image or acting second to JA. Not quit at the last minute. Anyway, i thought it is a good role to showcase her acting skills if she does it well. And other than JA, she will be the most experienced actress in the show, not difficult to outshine right?

Anyway, if you ask me, in terms of acting skills, Ann Kok can best bring out the character well. The role is abit like the Love Concierge role Ann acted in.

Felicia will be most suitable among 7 princess.

But ann & felicia have other commitments…so i guess it is best left to the experts to decide.
Find Koh Yah Hwee too tall for the role, and think her acting too “raw”. She has potential though.

Other than that, i really cant think of others with the looks & can act well within such a short preparation time. But please get someone local/malaysian for the show to have a good mix of stars.

Since so much Versions of Fiona Xie pulling out of the MEGA Blockbuster is going around at the moment , maybe one of her reasons for doing so could be that she wants to create publicity for herself , so that people will start to take notice of her again and talk about her again and so in a way , people will still remember her .

Cos remember , her career seems to be going downhill and there has also been speculation that she has been ‘ unhappy ‘ with life & work at Mediacorp and that she has ‘ offended ‘ some high profile people at the company etc … Thus the reason to do this to stir controlversy and create news & spotlight for herself !

That is just what I personally think is her ‘ reason ‘ and ‘ aim ‘ for pulling out this End Of Year MEGA Blockbuster Drama !

Makes sense ?

Really hope that Jesseca Liu can be given a chance to act in this role. She has the looks, height, and most importantly, her acting skills are natural and good (She lacks a good role for her to shine).

In addition, I believe that most of her fans are hoping to see her to act alongside with Elvin Ng (her co-star in Kinship). Their chemistry are really superb.

Seriously feel that mediacorp should give her this role. She just lack a good role for her to shine plus apart from the dreamcatchers, her fans in Singapore are missing her screen time on TV.

Fiona quit so suddenly, of cos, people would say she’s pregnant. And if her belly didn’t grow big when she comes back, people would say she left Sg to go for abortion.

BTW, who else can replace her. None. Even Fiona isn’t the best choice.

RE-she doesn’t have the sexy look & the acting chop to do a role so different from her real self.
Dawn-she already tried those sexy ah lian & hip-hop dance girl, but unconvincing. So don’t think she can do this too.
FC-not gorgeous & sexy
JL-too mature looking to look innocent & she’s not sexy.
JP-she’s not sexy at all & don’t think she can act sexy.
Paige-too mature & cold & doesn’t have the acting chops to do a role so different from her image.

Those above 30 won’t be considered. So pls don’t suggest Fann, Ann, Yvvone, Michelle Chia. Though they all look younger than their real age,

this context). Moreover, Fann only does 1 Mediacorp drama a year. She’s too busy for this drama too & also too experienced. Ann, Yvvone & Michelle are

The only person I can think that is closest to this character is Yah Hui. She’s young, pretty & can be sexy (but must undergo training). The greatest problem now isthat her acting is still very unpolish & she still hasn’t start reading the script. But if she stands beside JA, she will outshine JA cos she’s tall & young. They will not look like the same age. YH is only 20 yrs old while JA is already 30. But among this next generation of actresses, YH
is certainly the most suitable. She is also among the prettiest actresses in Mediacorp, she only lack X-factor now.

I don’t think Rui En is suitable at all because she does not do kissing scenes. She herself said so. I think Yvonne Lim will be quite good if you are looking for a more petite actress but I wonder if she’s free? Isn’t she on for the other long drama? If you want a taller actress, Ong Ai Leng will be good and btw Paul, I don’t think people care if Priscilla Chan is married or not. As long as she looks the part.

Honestly, I think people should just face it. Fiona has already decided to withdraw, and I’m sure she has her reasons. Sure, it wont be the best decision for her career, but I’m sure she has had a hard time thinking through her decision. So quit bashing something that has already happen. That said, I think she was pretty much perfect for the role, and the only thing she needed to brush up on was her portrayal of the character.

A few people i think could be considered for the role are …

Rebecca Lim, though shes really new. I think she has the look, and shes proven her worth as an rising actress. This could be a great ladder for her.

Eelyn. Great actress, nuff said. The look could always be honed by the wardrobe, hair etc.

Ong Ai Leng. I think she has the look for that era, and shes pretty good too. Comfortable in her roles, though she hasn’t really been given oppoturnities to fully show what she has.

Sheila Sim. A fresh face the producers could consider if thats what they intend to go for, i think she fits the criteria of the role. Maybe not petite, but definitely interesting to see new faces on telly..

Hey this action is a taboo right? Unless really got strong reason,if not she will be seen as ‘unprofessional’ and ‘irresponsible’ and probably even ‘immature’

Btw, not Elyn Kok again. She’s already being typecasted in such roles, and she finally got herself out of such role by starring in a lead role as some good character. Now you want her to do such roles again? Then how can she ever get out of such on-screen persona to the viewers? This type of role irks viewers. Furthermore she looks way too matured and plain for such a role. If she really so pretty and good figure why is she still unpopular even after so many years acting?

I suggest Paige Chua for this role. Though she’s locked in 180epi drama but I believe the schedule can be arranged and accomodated. I believe her role in the 180epi drama is not big, so I believe she will have time to do this drama. I think she’s the prettiest actress after Jeanette. And I believe she can do this type of roles well due to her image and of cos I think she can act. I thought she’s being considered to take over Jeanette’s place in 7 princess? Why not just use her to boost her popularity so that we can have at least one pretty actress? Do use Paige.

Wonder if this drama will be a flop, havent even start lensing already so much “trouble”. The casting of these actors (except Jeanette) is already so risk taking… Out of all the 6 characters, I only fine with Jeanette and her acting… The rest……………….

To be honest, if going by look, only yah Hui is most suitable. She’s about the prettiest among the younger stars. But her acting still very raw (despite acted in a few dramas already, not very talented). She can’t express her emo through the way she speaks. I hope Mediacorp give her some special training, cos she already got the look. I think she can look quite vain too.
So maybe when shooting those high-profile sexy & seductive scenes, then
get the director to give her more directions, she should able to do it.

But like someone said, she may overshadow JA, given her youth, height &
look.

Even if Fiona Xie decided to quit acting in this MEGA Blockbuster because she is worried that she may not be up to the job or that she will be even more hated by the TV Viewers after accepting this Role , she should still have full confidence in the Scriptwriter 洪荣狄 who very often never fails to be able to bring out the very best of each of the Actors & Actresses that he has selected to act in his Serial .

And it is proven . Jeanette Aw & Dai Yang Tian shot to fame in The Little Nyonya , Kola Zhou and Zheng Ge Ping from Table Of Glory ( especially for the latter ) when we can now see more of him acting on TV – First in Table Of Glory , now in My Buddy , then this end of Year Blockbuster !

Even Lin Mei Jiao after the successful performance in The Little Nyonya also saw her getting more Drama Serials to act from the start of the year till now . So is Cynthia Koh , first in My School Daze , then The ULTIMATUM , then in another Drama later this year .

And also , 洪荣狄 Dramas have always been a hit with TV Viewers ! The Little Nyonya was so popular beyond words can describe , then two of his works this year also saw them finish Second & Third respectively in the List of Drama Serials shown in the first half of this year !

Reunion Dinner 团圆饭 finished Second and Table Of Glory 乒乓圆 finished third in the first half of this year !

Even The MEGA Blockbuster Drama two Years ago in 2007 also written by him – The Golden Path 黄金路 which saw it being sold to China , even achieved excellent TV Ratings in China when it was shown there earlier this year !

Also , four of his Drama Serials in total : The Golden Path 黄金路 , The Little Nyonya 小娘惹 , Just In Singapore 一房半厅一水缸 & Table Of Glory 乒乓圆 have also been made into DVD and sold in TS Stores islandwide !

So I really do not know or really do not understand what exactly Fiona Xie was worrying about and what exactly prompted her to make this decision to pull out in this MEGA Blockbuster !

I think that whoever is the one who manages to get to act in this Role as Fiona’s replacement & if she really is able to perform well and managed to be nominated & even go on to win the Best Actress Award in next year’s STAR Awards 2010 , then Fiona would surely regret and start to curse and swear for letting this golden opportunity to overturn her career for the better slip by through her own hands from her own doing !

If that really happens next year , really she has absolutely NO ONE to blame but only herself !

Agree ? Cos such good opportunity does not always come knocking by twice , as they say and she should have learn to cherish this opportunity that come by her way , yet she chose to give up !

Someone suggested Florence Tan ( Star Search 1997 Winner ) , then how about this Ex – Mediacorp Actress ? She occasionally still appears on TV as a Host … in health related infotament Programme ? Guess who I am talking about ?

She may be sweet … only have the sweet look , but I think she can be on the sexy side too ( at least just for this once ) … As long as well … her husband Darren Lim allows it , then there is no problem already and she can surely act as a 20 something years old too … Her Mandarin is of course excellent ! In fact , way way better than some 7Ps ….

Yes , I am referring to Evelyn Tan 陈毓芸 … How about her ? Long time never see her act already … Please make use of this opportunity to get her back on our TV Screen in a Drama Serial at least just for this once , OK ?

i think ann kok can act the role easily with great performance cos she acted as Jiang Ru Qing also this kinda of Jian Nu Ren role beforem but at 36 can she do it, and will MCS let her do it? i doubt so.. and ann kok popularity has soarred this few mths from april onwards, it will be gd to see her in but then the actors are too young for her, it will be another miscasting again. I hope fiona will come back and do lah, she is the best choice.

anyway, Do give jessica liu a chance to be in this drama, she is an A lister who won 3 top ten awards these 3 yrs and she can act. so the challenge is give her very thick make-up and glam jian nu ren clothes to match the role. she gt certain acting capabilities as well and she is popular than many of the actress out there like xu ya hui and etc.. so let an A list artisit to save the drama, if not the lead is like wahhh only JA Elvin and dai yang tian who are more popular, other 3 not popular.. so Jessica in this show will boost some popularity in this drama as she is indeed popular than a lot of the mentioned names.

I think Zoe or Fann is too old.

Perhaps can get both of them to act in a housewife drama. They can both be very different housewives. Zoe can be the older one (Of course!) with perhaps a teenage son and daughter, and she will face a lot of issues with her teenage children so much so that she buckles under stress and quits her job. Fann can act as this young mother who is so bored of staying home to look after her baby daughter and toddler son and yearns to go out and work. It should be quite interesting to see both Ah Jies playing characters which are so much closer to real life.

I wonder just how shameless you Zoe’s fans are. Don’t blame the viewers for her failures nor being able to go overseas. Singaporeans, especially the media, have given her support, praises and even false titles more than enough, but she still could not make it due to her personal quality (acting, looks, star quality blahblahblah). Fann Wong being scolded almost every single minute in past 15 years by the media and you Zoe’s fans still manages to make herself bigger and bigger overseas. Being scolded does not prevent you away from being successful overseas. Stop protecting your Zoe by this ridiculous theory.

To Paul: After so many failures by Zoe, will you MCS still promote her as your No 1 Ah Jie? Will you still claim her the Queen of viewership? If yes, then MCS will be seriously accussed of lying to the public. Stop lying, Paul.

I suggest you asking the media and MCS of course to get rid of the ranking, just name Fann, Biren, Liping and MAYBE Zoe (for consolation) Ah Jies. Then no one would argue why she is No 1 and why she is not. Period.

I guess you probably are one of those who have always been hating on Zoe and in times like these when her career is down, you laugh and point fingers at her failures. It is almost ridiculous to reason with you. I laugh at your pathetic rationale behind your bigoted thinking.

You assume that whoever speaks up for Zoe is her fan. How sure of that are you.? Can there not be people who are on the middle ground, yet are unhappy with the way others are bashing their own artistes, and hence voice their opinions defending Zoe.? I did not see Nick’s post as necessarily a pro-Zoe post but you, obviously, blinded by your hate for Zoe, assumed that Nick was a Zoe fan. All I can say that Zoe does not have a lot of fans these days – the fans are mainly for those who still can draw the young crowd like Fann, Jeanette, Felicia and Joanne etc – but that does not mean that there are no audiences with no particular idols who speak up in her defence when ridiculous people like you come forward with illogical and incoherent posts to bash her. I suspect, perhaps, that you are the one who wrote in earlier on to bring Zoe into the entire discussion on Fiona Xie leaving, which leads me to the conclusion that you are a cowardly hater. To call others who defend Zoe shameless.? To call others who are fans of her shameless.? What kind of upbringing did you have, may I ask.? You need to learn (or re-learn, if you have learnt it wrongly) the meaning of “shameless”.

Zoe cannot make it overseas due to her own personal qualities.? That would be a very narrow-minded way of thinking, which I am personally not surprised that it comes from you. Let me remind you that the world does not revolve only around a person – there are many factors, in fact, too many other factors as to why an artiste can or cannot make it big overseas. Just because someone is able to charm international audiences doesn’t make him or her a better artiste in his or her own home country. Going by your comments, I suppose you only judge the qualities of an artiste based on his or her receptivity / success overseas. In other words then, may I assume that only Fann Wong falls into your category of a good artiste, followed by Phyllis Quek, Yvonne Lim, Florence Tan etc? It is sad to say but these artistes (other than Fann Wong) have certainly not captivated the hearts of local audiences long enough (Phyllis’s popularity has been dwindling & Yvonne’s has just begun to rise again since the last decade). Are they better than our dear Chen Liping, Xiang Yun, Jeanette Aw, Vivian Lai etc who have not been able to make it overseas as well.?

Perhaps you should go and learn about an artiste’s history before you go and bash the artiste. There is a reason why the media gave the artiste certain titles. Michael Jackson was coined “King of Pop” – does it mean that during the last decade when his career was spiralling downwards to rockbottom, he should no longer be addressed as the “King of Pop”.? Zoe has been coined Queen of Caldecott since the mid-1990s – perhaps you should find out why she was given that title before coming here to make your case. Calling her Queen of Caldecott does not necessarily mean she is the best in the industry – it is just a title. Just like Fann Wong being called “Number TWO Ah Jie” – it doesn’t mean she is inferior in any way to Zoe – the number two might very well mean she came after Zoe, you know, chronologically speaking. As for Biren and Liping, yes, they deserve the title as well, they definitely do for their achievements in the industry but to put them before Zoe (you mentioned that Zoe should be called Ah Jie for consolation) is a little unthinkable. Biren only acheived critical and commercial acclaim in 1998 – that was a decade after Zoe! Liping was huge but she shared the limelight with several others (Xiang Yun, Chen Xiuhuan, Zeng Huifen etc) in the late 1980s and was overshadowed by Zoe in the early 1990s, and her appeal has been declining since the mid-1990s when Fann Wong burst onto the scene. It was not only until 2002 when she starred in Holland Village and enjoyed an upsurge in popularity again. I guess. and this is only my guess, that Zoe was coined the Queen of Caldecott because of the first decade of her career which has definitely been more-than-illustrious given the context of the local TV scene back then – only Fann Wong has had a better first decade in the showbusiness than her, definitely. Endorsements, commercials, ratings, popularity polls etc – she nearly eliminated all her competitors back then. Moreover, that was just a title, I repeat, a TITLE. One which has brought her more misery than anything else, I guess. When I read the report in The New Paper, I felt for her, honestly. I pitied her. When she was young and hot, everyone was on her side. Now when she is down, those vicious detractors can’t wait to tear her apart. All because she is the Queen of Caldecott. If she is not.? People would probably not even bother to bat an eyelid.

Paul, you might want to consider ice-cream’s suggestion, just to reduce the amount of expectations heaped onto Zoe. I really pity her at times.

And a final note to dear ice-cream: your standard of English is subpar. Please do not come here and make a fool of yourself. “…prevent you away…” – what kind of English is this.?!

I don’t think she was criticizing the 7 princesses. It was just a conversation between those reporters – they were asking her on her opinions on the 7 princesses. The newspapers ended up distorting her words. Oh well.
