Can Kelvin Tan Wei Lian 陈伟联 make it this time round?
This morning I am abit puzzled…when I opened up my email and saw the guest list of stars scheduled to compete in multiple celebrity versions of soon to telecast Ch 8’s ‘Don’t Forget The Lyrics 我要唱下去’ (this is also world’s first Mandarin version from the original format) hosted by 曾国城.
The game requires contestants to pick songs from a menu and continue singing the right lyrics when the words disappear from the screen at any point of the song’s duration.
One of the celebrity contestants is Kelvin Tan Wei Lian 陈伟联 who will be up against Sing Chew Xin Huey 石欣卉and Joi Chua 蔡淳佳 in the same session. I have to assume that Wei Lian must have super-memory (otherwise – very unfair and malu lah) as it would be many times tougher than his fellow contestants who could sing to the lyrics when they appear on the screen.
Besides the above, expect to see the other combinations:
Comedians: Mark Lee + Henry Thia aka Alamak + Michelle Tay aka 一大粒 of ‘Paris & Milan’
Hosts: Kym Ng + Quan Yi Feng + Jeff Wang
933 DJs: Zhou Chong Qing (possibly as Auntie Lucy) + Jia Hui + Jia Fa
(Hehe…this will be Jia Fa’s 1st TV debut and I know many TV Producers will be watching you to see if you have ’IT’ to cross over as a TV host like Pornsak)
Pre-recording of the sessions will be taking place over this long weekend (no more admission tickets as all already been snapped up by fans liao).
‘Don’t Forget The Lyrics 我要唱下去’ world’s debut of its first Mandarin version will kick start with a TV special immediately right after the National Day Parade telecast on Ch 8 (of course on 9 August lah). The proper telecast will begin on 25 August, every Tuesdays at 8pm on Channel 8.

its good to see joi chua on tv and as well as aunt lucy and jia fa. however the question on asking Can Kelvin Tan Wei Lian make it this time round? personally i think that he is over his peak (2005 and 2006), and if he really needs to survive in this industry he needs to mellow his temper. From the recent tv interview from chU, i think that he is very negative and insecure and his temper sucks too. He keeps mention that a lot of people is seeing him the fall of his popularity and see him how he die. Well i believe that the reporters are just doing the job on being harsh just take a look on our 2 top notch ah jies, they also got bad critics lately but their EQ are high enough and not to rebuke and said that many people are seeing them to fall or die. Weilian shld really chg the insercure and negative side of him if not it will be miserable for him to live on and be a star. Well i am not being harsh here and i believe i am just being neutral to a celebrity. some might argue to me that i am harsh to a handicapped singer, but even him want us to treat him as a normal fine vision singer, so i shall said that- his fans are mostly uncle and aunties, there’re seldom his student (be it sec, poly, jc and uni ) fans. And if he reallys want to promote his latest album well, i believe that the Ge Tai can be one of the good choices? i am no joking that saying Ge Tai is low class or what because u see even 715 movie is promoted thru Ge Tai last yr, and more weilian fans gt a lot of auntie and uncle crowds. so to weilian- if you want to be a star, dont grumble on the harsh critics or etc, do rethink on yr temper and EQ and no one owes you a rice bowl.

Goat, let’s be fair. What Wei Lian said does not deviate much from other artistes who are also constantly complaining about being misreported in the media. In actual fact, there’re people (including reporters) who are waiting to see his downfall but i salute his resilience. He will rise again. Just u wait n see. Time will tell.

Well, who knows Wei Lian will end up winning. Even if he loose there is no harm coz most will think he cannot make it for a program where non-blind will do well.

i think alot of times, being a singer and a celebrity speaks about totally different meaning. From my own opinion, Wei lian definitely suits being a singer more than a celebrity n seems he is quite straightforward abt it as well. in this industry, there r many who put on a mask. how many of them actually dare to say this industry is fake? why is it so that jay chou can point middle finger at reporter n yet ppl still respect him? i guess, its the same theory? everyone no matter popular or not, still deserves the basic respect…..as long as you r truthful to yourself, i do not think having own attitude is a bad thing afterall hahahaa
btw, u all don’t always say his fans all only auntie uncle, true that wei lian’s fans are auntie n uncle la but uncle n auntie also got different kinds of categories de leh. lowly educated, mid range education or highly educated. (anyway not impt la this point hahaha) but mostly of them r actually highly educated and comes from corporate backgrounds~~~

Looking forward to this upcoming ‘Don’t Forget The Lyrics 我要唱下去’ variety program. Time for us to see how our local artistes (be it singers/actors/Djs, etc) perform and show their talents. Happy to see that the organiser has even invited contestants like Kelvin Tan Wei Lian ~ for that goes to show that Kelvin (though visually impaired) is being given an equal chance to compete and challenge with his fellow colleagues. Others may depend on their eyesight to look at lyrics but as for Kelvin, I believe his super natural power is his ‘fantastic memory’. Otherwise he wouldnt be what he is today ~ our Project Superstar Grand Champion + Warner Music Singer Artiste! I just wanna say – there’s nothing fair or not fair in this world, everyone just have to be given a chance to do their best. So All the best to all contestants and Jia You Jia You!

To Paul : Huh ? U sure or not ? I mean … So when will Channel 5 telecast the English Version , last time say will be in April , but now start of August already still no News of their telecast ?
I know u obivously don’t do Channel 5 , but is there a way for u to like check or find out when Channel 5 will show the English dubbed version ? And by the way , is the dubbing completed for the English version … ?

Well this is just a game and for everyone to enjoy. I don’t see why Wei Lian being blind cannot be competing when he won the PSS in 2005 when no one at that time expected him to win including myself. Let’s just be open about it. I am very interested to see if Wei Lian can shock us this time by winning the most points or will he eventually loose it?
Either way will just be for entertainment purposes.

i think everyone has a misperception that all weilian fans are aunties uncles, and Goat is one of them here. weilian does have a lot of auntie uncle fans but he does have fans who are young students too. i am a fan of weilian and im in my 20s with a honours degree in one of the 3 unis in singapore. am i an auntie????
dont think all aunties and uncles are uneducated, lowly and likes to go to the getai. you will be a auntie or uncle sooner or later, good luck to you then.
and, yaya all artistes/actors/actresses in singapore dont have aunties uncles fans except for tan weilian. happy, Goatie dear?

If you don’t like to watch him, then kindly switch to some other channel “soothing” to your eyes and ears. After all, that’s what I do to those whom I dislike. Don’t think your comments really make much impact (or so you think) to producers as they have already seek him to participate.

Wei Lian a negative person? Many would dispute that. He spoke about the Poly incident during the recent Channel U programme. He was invited as a guest singer and subsequently the event was greatly distorted by the press (portrayed as his concert). It was a great injustice to him so we can hardly fault him for being upset. Is that being negative? Goat, you speak of uncles and aunties with such disdain – that’s so unnecessary don’t you think? You have your personal taste in music, so do we uncles and aunties, no need to put down other people in this way. Chill.

no more english version? sian… the nyonya fans are looking forward to it! since there’s no way we will get to watch the cantonese version on our national tv… (whether or not it’s already dubbed is also a question…)

it will be really nice to listen to them singing all sorts of song impromtu…

OH…weilian competing with sin huey & joi…that’s good. Win or lose nevermind lah. No need to take things seriously lah. But i think his memory for lyrics must be good. I just like this type of programs where we can see diff artistes (be it singers, hosts,DJ) appear on reality show. Like what Paul say in my earlier entry, MCS is more into dramas & variety. Hardly can have airtime for Superstars. So at least got a chance to see them lah. Too bad CSS won’t appear , but nevermind lah, Think they gotta to study since its not sch hols. (Teresa preparing GCE exams right)
I am also looking forward to see kym ng, jeff wang & quan yifeng’s epi. WIll probably be quite funny. I heard kym ever release some CDs many years ago?? how come never hear her sing again?

i dont think that i am being harsh here. i didnt insult him or say that he cant sing etc. what i feedback was just my personal opinion when i saw his interview last week that his temper was not good at all and most importantly being an artisit one must control his EQ lvl and dont get so agitated when he being interviewed. Also, i didnt say uncle and auntie are low class or ge tai shows are low class. what i mentioned was – he can make use of the 7 mth Ge tai to promote his album since he got a huge auntie and uncle fan base, of cos he got other fan bases as well. Because even 715’s move last yr can promote thru the Ge Tai last yr so i believe this might be a good way for W.L to do this also.
i am being harsh? if i am harsh i can write more nasty comments but what the point? i am just being neutral. you can ask paul, there are many harsh comments in this blog by other fans for other artisits like zoe fann and 7ps. from their looks, sense of dressing to their acting skills and calling them names like old witch, woodblock acting, HR lackeys etc (go search other entries you can easily find it, maybe the joanne peh entry on acting old). therefore i wont apologise for the SO CALLED harsh comment which some might think it is regarding weilian. it’s just a feedback though.

btw, paul u mentioned earlier this yr that LNY will be telecast in HK TVB soon, as they purchased the copyright. so are they still showing anytime soon? and i read in i weekly this yr that it will be good if the new hk pop diva Kay Tse can sing the cantonese version of LNY, so do u have any ideas who will sing the theme because i also think that kay tse’s vocal is rather simlar with the chinese version and if there s a canto verison of the theme and sang by her it will be a great HIT.

I am big PSS1 fan myself. I am a uni graduate and not an auntie still consider myself princess (hehe)
There is nothing wrong to have temper as long as can control it. Wei lian was saying he is like chilli
Very hot temper but that was in the past. He explains his character before pss1 and right after.
He has since learn to control his temper. I wonder why you say he needs to change.
About EQ he also mentioned after PSS1 he realised a lot of things changed and he cannot
Take some of the media tactics and attacks but start to learn how to overcome.
Anyway he is just like any celebrity whose success cause them depression etc. I did not see anything he
Said during interview make you misunderstood he has low EQ. If you know him personally just like
Me I have met him more than 20 times at events that I go to support him he was a great
Person, friendly to fans. He definitely not having low EQ.
I am proud Wei Lian is still around and releasing his third album despite all the hoo ha.
Happy to see so much news about Wei Lian now. I will definitely continue to support.
As well as Joi Chua my fav local female singer and MC hosts Kym, QYF, Jeff all I love very much.

I suppose this is all very subjective. A lot of us did not observe any display of agitation from Wei Lian during the Ch U programme. Instead, we found him very honest and forthcoming – his usual style, and it was a very light hearted interview indeed. We didn’t even feel any malice in Quan Yi Feng when she jested about death.
As for the promotional activities for his latest album, I am sure his recording company has it all mapped out already on the best route to take, with his best interest at heart. His fans do now and then chip in on ideas too – constructive, and not destructive ones.

Frankly, I think Jia Fa is much better than Ponsark lah. At least Jia Fa’s
smile is very natural lor. I certainly want to see Jia Fa on TV. He can really
speak very well lor & enjoys his work. Maybe, one day can see him co-hosting
with Chong Qing & Calvin Soh lah. They all from 933 one mah, can talk
& got sense of humour & witty somemore.
Actually, should get Calvin Soh & Chong Qing to host this show, cos they
both can sing, witty & humourous lor. I ever heard these 2 DJs banter on
radio before, really very funny lor.

I like to say ” JIAYOU ! 1,000 times.
Thou u cannot see physically, but u can see mentally, many times better than lots of sighted people, who have eyes, but cannot see.
U are braver than lots of people, who have no guts in many ways.
To memorize so many lyrics is no mean feat!
U have to work harder! many many times more than sighted people.
Don’t give up!
Use the criticisms to yr advantage.
Use it as push factors, to better yrself
No one in this world is 100% perfect.
Everyone has some imperfections including yr critics,
but sad to say, they can’t see or choose not to admit.
Some selfish people always want others to change to
suit themselves.
To these people:- I say, remember to ‘CHANGE YRSELF 1st’
before you want to change others.
Don’t block the path of people who are brave enough

Just a game why so serious ne? I personally think it will bring more viewers to watch since Wei Lian is the first blind to participate. Don’t think original version ever have any blind competing?
Anyway I do agree its quite unfair to Wei Lian but I read that the host will read out to him and give him more clues to over come his weakness.
If Wei Lian win this, I will salute him and I believe many others will too.

watching crime busters tonight. dawn yeoh is very lively and her smile brings a smile to my face. also like the malay lady – cantik – who speak perfect chinese. hope to see on the set again. maybe as a comedian or sorts? paul, will mediacorp be giving more exposures to dawn yeoh? additionally, the 2nd character of her chinese name is quite hard to pronounce – is there a chance she changes it to a more readable one?

yah. it will be good to see the nonya stars getting popular in HK… because HK c9 and teenagers are crazy with overseas stars.. and somemore the 4 lead are handsomes and beauties… defintely can attract the Hongkongers attention… because so far no actor or actress can gain popular in HK. Fann is more popular in taiwan and china but not really hk, so if our sg star can gain recognition there and attract a lot of crowds , it will be good. Ask TVB to ask our stars get down there to do promotion in their malls before the telecats and in between of the telecast. Get the leads JP JA 715 PP and DYT.

Despite Paul Chan having said many times over before here in his replies to readers Comments that words used on the internet can be used as evidences in court & may get one entangled in a potential legal case … Such that he or she may became liable for legal action against himself/herself …
It seems that the various ‘ warnings ‘ that Paul Chan has made has fallen on deaf ears ! By the way , in case u guys are happily writing what u are enjoying posting & writing , this is EXCUSE ME … OUR DEAR PAUL CHAN’s Blog for goodness sake …
Though this Blog is open for public discussion & to leave comments , one must still respect & have basic courtesy for the owner of this Blog ! By posting those baseless accusations against any Mediacorp Artistes , not only can get one sued for defamation charges , but also an act of disrespect to first – the owner of this Blog , Mr Paul Chan & Secondly , to the Artistes concerned !

To Paul Chan : Maybe u can try to find out from police what exactly are the defamation charges one will get if found guilty ? I think this will greatly reduce the number of rubbish & unconstructive comments found here and make your life very much easier !
As in for defamation charges : How many years of jail one will get , how much fine one has to pay or how many strokes of caning one will receive if found guilty ? Paul , u go find out & write it here , then I think this will somehow help to deter people from sprouting nonsense here & make this Blog pleasant reading for everyone !

有没有听过等久就有？LNY will take some time before it is shown bah … tvb has at least 19 completed but unreleased series, and 6 series currently in the stage of filming. Just like how tvb shows take usually around 2 – 4 years to be shown on channel 8/u, I guess we can expect LNY to take about the same amount of time to be shown on the tvb station.

Sorry for this non-related comment. Some thoughts I’d like to share with you & Mediacorp.
A while ago, you had a blog on 梁文福 who would possibly be singing the theme song for ‘Together’. At that time, I forgot to share my feelings about the songs in ‘TLN’, ‘TOG’ & the future ‘Together’.
You know that scene where Mr Yousuke met Ju Xiang for the first time (TLN Ep 1) when he helped her to wash off ang ku kueh colouring on her face, what made that scene very touching was partly due to the music, 保温. 保温has a really beautiful melody & good orchestration too. This has helped us to be so ‘involved emotionally’ in the love story of Mr Yousuke & Ju Xiang. Then, when Mr Yousuke met Ju Xiang the 2nd time in Wong’s house in Ep 2, 保温was the background music once again.
In 2003 when I fell in love with K dramas for the first time, it were the songs in ‘Winter Sonata’ that were melodious & catchy. Then, the scenaries. I used to dislike K dramas & preferred HK dramas cos the former moved too slowly for my liking. But later on, I began to like K dramas cos of the songs, scenaries & their focus on details in their dramas.
In <溏心风暴〉,the 'Starry starry night' song whenever screen characters starred by Lam Fung & the Linda Chung appeared made those moments very romantic. In TVB 1999's "Investigation File 4", all the romantic scenes among the 4 main artistes also had standard love themes. Each time, when 古天乐 & 宣萱 （Big Big Girl) ， 陈锦鸿 & 佘诗曼 appeared, they had a standard love theme/theme song for each couple. I can't explain the psychological effect of all these love themes have on us audience but they just appeal to us & bringsforth a total visual-audio sensation. May be it's the familiarity, may be with the song, we not only watch the current scene but it tags along with the reminiscence of the romantic moments of the 2 characters before the current scene. I feel it's the connectivity.
Whatever it is, I hope Mediacorp will spend a little more time & effort in ensuring the songs part is not neglected like TOG. No offence but the theme song of TOG is not very appealing. Additionally, in TOG, there is not a single love theme that tagged along with romantic links between the leads. On the other hand, practically every song in TLN is nice.

hi paul, the songs in tln are really very nice leh. JA did sing that female song and i think she’s pretty good after two attempts; one at the SAF show and the other at the peranakan heritage show. even the last episode song sang by a male singer (don’t know who) is also very nice. hope for “together” the songs will just be as beautiful; romantic and touching okay. really looking forward to the show.
hopefully MDC will have another show lined up for JA after “together” with 715 cos they too make a perfect screen couple. also give JA an opportunity to act in Taiwan mah; perhaps with Wuzun; good looking and same age with JA leh .. haha .. any possiblity of this happening paul?

To Paul : I watched the 15 mins Prelude of 我要唱下去 last night but right till the end of the show , there is a Trailer informing us that the actual show will be shown on 25 August 2009 at 8.30pm …
My Question is : Why only 30 mins ? Why not show from 8pm to 9pm and make it a one hour show ?
Such a hit & very popular with TV Viewers and it is being shown for half an hour ( 30 mins ) only & for once a week only ? Why is this so ?

by the way, can i request for the repeat telecast of this show 2007莹火虫的梦either on weekends or weekdays 11pm? I was not able to rush back home and usually miss parts of the show. I understand the show already repeated at weekdays 5.30pm, but this is too early lah. I can’t skip classes right. I am fan of Felicia Chin & CSS esp Teresa, and i love the OST, so i hope to catch the show again.

Is great to see Jeff Wang on the show again, he has been away for too long as a host, but to compete in Don’t forget the lyrics, I think he will have an upper hand over zhong qin and quan yi feng, cos he can sing very well and like singing, so he will probably remember more lyrics of songs. Another person I look forward to is Zhou Chongqing, his singing is good and he’s humourous. BTW, I do like Chengcheng to be the host, he is fast and direct in his hosting, I like it. But I am puzzled by alamak competing in the show, he seems to be alway tongue-tight, can’t really speak broken sentences, can he sing? and is he and mark lee familiar with new songs, like those of jay chou and jolin, etc
