敢敢改换7公主 Changing the 7 Princesses

If you are given a chance to cast the 7 Princesses in a drama, how will you do it? Do you want to ‘play-safe’ or take a huge amount of risk and give them a revolutionary role?

It is really a tough decision when it comes to casting. It is not like you can throw any role to the Princess. No, you can’t. Not all Princesses can handle changes. Many factors will have to be taken into consideration. Some Princesses may not be ready to switch between a goodie role and a baddie one. Or the professional panel may not think they are ready or viewers are ready. Or the Princesses themselves just may not be mentally prepared to change. It can be detrimental to the career of a particular Princess or your product if you ’revolutionarise’ her too fast without letting her ‘evolve’…

 

Looking at how 刘芷绚 Jesseca played her role in ‘Baby Bonus 添丁发财’ (debuts on Ch 8 on 30 Sept at 9pm) and I just feel this is one actress who can really act. But in my opinion, her roles tend to fit into a similar mould. She will need something more than just that slightly challenging role in ‘Romantic Delicacies 美食厨师男’ (now on Ch 8 at 7pm) to leave a stronger impression. Any suggestion of a role you feel Jesseca can play up her potential?

 

I see some sort of an evolution in the roles 欧萱 Jeanette has played. She left a strong impression when she first started out as the dim-witted 晶晶 in Holland V. Then, there was this period of time where she was stuck in playing those roles that made you dislike her (no wonder she lost her ‘Top 10 Most Popular’ then…). It was a period she described as feeling very ’lost’ but it was also the time she honned her skills before her next big break.  ’小娘惹 The Little Nyonya’ changed her fate. Jeanette Aw then landed herself another meaty role in ‘Together 当我们同在一起’ this year. Next, she will become the ‘Funneral Director’ in ‘New Beginnings 红白囍事’ – a role dealing with the sensitive side of ‘life and death’. What role do you hope to see Jeanette in next? Drastic change? Or subtle change?

 

If you are looking at a Princess whose changes were most obvious, 白薇秀 Joanne Peh immediately comes to mind. From her past roles as strong career lady to the award-winning ‘you-can-bully-her’ role in ‘The Little Nyonya’, her change was more a revolution than evolution. This is even more evident when you see her playing the ‘extremes’ of two roles in the upcoming 180-episode ‘Your Hand In Mine 想握你的手’ (debuts on Ch 8 at 7pm on 9 Nov) – she plays both the feel-good lawyer professional and the despicable mum. She has tried the two ‘extremes’ and is there any other role you want to see Joanne Peh in?

 

Coming close to Joanne Peh’s ‘revolutionary’ change is 陈靓瑄 Felicia Chin. This year alone, she has two completely different roles to add to her portfolio – the suffering tomboy in ‘The Ultimatum 双子星’ and the Ah-Lian in the upcoming ‘Baby Bonus 添丁发财’. These roles are different from one another and she is getting better in transforming herself convincingly into the role. What role do you want Felicia in next?

 

 

She has played the lovable role, 阳刚 role and career-minded one. 瑞恩 Rui En’s changes have been more subtle (until her new nerdy-looking breakthrough role next year in Happy Family 全家福). I am not sure if she is willing to take on drastic changes – like playing a 风骚 bar-girl? It is a good change to see her in Happy Family 全家福 but is that all to be expected of Rui En? What’s next after that? What is your suggestion?

 

When it comes to 姚懿珊 Dawn Yeoh, she seems to be perpetually cast as the young, cute and sunshine girl-next-door. I last ran into her in the wardrobe unit and couldn’t immediately recognise her. I feel Dawn is maturing well into a woman. So, the question is – are you ready to see Dawn playing more ‘grown-up’ women roles that were last played by Joanne and Jeanette? Can Dawn play 月娘 and still win massive amount of hearts and minds?

 

 

Fiona Xie 谢宛谕 was given a revolutionary role in ‘一房半厅一水缸 Just In Singapore’ . The casting people then handed her a tougher and challenging role in ‘Together’ – a role bordering on being ‘materialistic’ yet  ’sympathetic’. She rejected it and gone missing… What role do you want to give it to Fiona and feel she will accept, excel and be comfortable in it?

   rui en, jeannette, dawn, jesseca will be in for any challenging roles. my gang and i are fine without having joanne peh, felicia chin and fiona xie in any roles. still feel terribly uncomfortable cos we do get the goose bumps whenever i have to watch esp joanne peh on tv. we do however have three names to replace them, namely, priscelia chan, ann kok and eelyn kok.

   in other words, we do suggest a new list with rui en, jeannette, dawn, jesseca, priscelia, ann and eelyn. rui en (minister who has a scandalous affair), jeannette (school principal who strongly opposes falsehood, advocates “truthfulness”), dawn (driving instructor), jesseca (cleaning lady who becomes famous), priscelia (dietician), ann (tai tai of a womaniser) and eelyn (counsellor to teenagers who imparts values such as “truthfulness / social worker).

   Put all the 7 princesses in a drama. Play their roles based on their personalities. Make this an idol drama.

   after Joanne finishes filming for YHIM, for sure many directors will want her in a new show right? then, grab her and put her in a new show with Rui En. (any genre would do) They have not worked together before, and as far as I can imagine, it would be quite thrilling to see them playing as enemies, friends or even sisters. I am sure this would work out to be quite well.

   another combination you can try is perhaps jeanette and dawn? felicia and dawn?

   Maybe it’s time to re-assess…. Guo Huiwen should seriously be considered as the new princess, and de-throne those princesses who have been given many chances but still don’t make the grade. I don’t think it’s fair to the other actresses who try equally, if not harder than everyone else if the 7 princesses are untouchable, and can basically rest on their laurels and still be given the title.

   Personally, I think Huiwen acts much better than some of the princesses… she’s only recently been given the right opportunities. While people like Fiona Xie seem to forever to be in that “Genie” mode…

   As for Dawn, not versatile enough. Maybe MCS should have given her a year or two to mature and hone her acting skills before conferring her the title…

   Jessica doesn’t have that star quality that Jeanette, Rui En possess. She doesn’t make me look forward to her shows. I know she tries hard, but somehow, her acting is mediocre at best. Doesn’t make you hate her, but doesn’t make you yearn for more as well…

   Jeanette has been given ample opportunities, and she has managed to shine. Her acting’s not perfect yet, but she exudes that X factor whenever she’s on screen.

   Felicia, well, she’s not the type of girl that you’d immediately like. It took a while for me to like her. But increasingly, I’ve been impressed by her acting….

   Oops…I had completely forgotten about Joanne. Hmmm… says alot, doesn’t it.

   She doesn’t have a ’star’ face… but she’s likeable. She had an excellent role in Little Nonya and she excelled in it. That was the only memorable role that she has had so far. The others have so far been pretty forgettable.

   Personally, MCS should take the risk and throw different extreme roles to every one of the princesses. That way, we can really see who shines and who flops. Keeping the title of 7 princesses should not be as easy as ABC. It should be a competition among the MCS “A” listers.

   如果说要“敢敢改换七公主”！我倒有以下提议；当然先从我最爱的欧萱开始！
   欧萱：复古造型不错，也许可以演三四十年代的女歌星，或者演制服团体冷酷严厉，铁石心肠的女教官女上司！黑社会女大姐也不妨！
   瑞恩：演对新鲜事物都死缠烂打的女记者；演古装剧里的古代美女或侠女！相信她的古装扮像一定很漂亮！
   刘芷萱：演悲情剧里类似月娘一样哭哭啼啼的角色；风月场所性感风骚的陪酒女郎！那将会是她的新突破！
   姚懿珊：不是演月娘而是演像珍珠之类使坏让人恨之入骨的角色！
   陈靓瑄：不喜欢她扮可爱！最希望她能演像贞子复仇那样的女鬼，样子要非常恐怖的那一类！再次演老师，不过是老土保守严厉；要求苛刻的女老师！
   白薇秀：演不择手段追求名利，不可一世的女强人，男人对她恭恭敬敬唯命是从，女人对她恨之入骨！
   谢宛玉：演失踪下落不明的美女！（　不需亲自上阵　）靠旁人口诉就行了！哈哈！

   Jesseca – Playing an ill-fated, long suffering mother, in her mid 30s, with a 10-year-old child ala Huang Bi Ren in Jia Ren You Yue, or San Shi Geng Yu Lu I would love to see her take on a more mature role ina contemporary drama, one that is kinda “pia mia”, having to endure lotsa trials and tribulations in life, and hardships of utmost magnitude, i think she has teh acting chops to carry these roles of, she can be the nest Huang Bi Ren if given the right kind of roles. Alternatively, she can still stick to the kind of independent, sophisticated career women roles but with a twist, how about something like Yang Jin Hua’s character in Bai Quan Nu Wang. Try to pair her with a much younger actor like Zhang Zhen Huan or DYT, there may be some surprises in store.

   Jeanette – really sick and tired of seeing her play those iron-willed beauties roles, it gets kidna predicatble now, that she’s always playing those wai rou nei gang kind of characters, i would love to see her playing a villain ( fan pai ren wu) forced to resort to underhand means due to the cirrcumstances they are in, something like Gigi Lai or Charmaine Sheh’s characters in the TVB drama “War and Beauty”.

   Joanne – She has done remarkably well over the last two years in experimenting different kind of roles, but i think there’s a inner vixen in her that she should attempt to exlpoit on, maybe take on a wanton, flirtatious, coquettish bar/bad girl role like Zoe Tay’s trademark Bobo. Altrnatively, i would love to see her paly a naive and gullible, slightly dim-witted role like Huang Bi Ren’s “Kelian” in “Beautiful Connection ala “Jiu Cheng Gao”

   Ruien – A villainous role similar to Ivy Lee award winning’s Angel’s Dream or or”Tian shi De You Huo”, or an ill-fated mother role like i suggested for Jesseca, and even a period drama, a musical set in the 70s perhaps? Utilise the gal’s singing voice, cast her in a drama which she get teh chance to showcase her singing talents.Hope the casting dept give her a role in the uopcoming blockbuster about the musical scene in Singapore back in the 70s. i think there’s a lot of untapped potential in RE, she hasn’t really proved her versatility but i think she has the range and maturity to carry off very diverse roles.

   Felicia – the upcoming baby drama is a refeshing change, i think she looks quite impressive in the trailer, but i would love to see her tackle a “serious” dramatic role in a period drama like Cynthia Koh’s Hong Dou in “Stepping out”.

   Dawn – Go the Myolie Wu’s route, Dawn actually has the comedic chops to find a niche in this area, she actually impressed me in “Ding Dang Shen tan” she will do fine playing those kind of sassy shi san dian kind of roles.

   Fiona – Try tacking an innocent, kind-hearted, meek and demure kinda of role like Chen Qiao En in the Taiwanes idol drama “Ming Zhong Zhu Ding Wo Ai Ni”, it will be interesting to see Fiona playing a docile and reserved character.

   I am sick of watching roles that need Rui En more for her name than for her acting. A deeper and more emotionally challenged role please. Test her acting, yes test her acting. Because she can do it, definitely.

    paul, this is a refreshing update.

    Well, it is hard to tell which of the 7Ps fit into certain categories. The acting skills can be honed with experience. Nevertheless, they should be able to inject life into these roles. That is the most important part of being an actress.

    I know I should not compare these princesses with taiwanese or Hong Kong female artistes. Just give you a rough paradigm. I have watched Taiwanese best dramas ie. 敗犬女王 My Queen, 痞子英雄 Black and White. Look at Cheryl Yang of the 敗犬女王. She was able to portray the character well. I can feel the joy and pain in the character.

    But these serials have bed scenes or hot scenes. In 痞子英雄, Mark Zhao is famously known for his steamy bed scenes with one female lead (Sonia Sui). From that scene, Mark Zhao, the newbie became a star overnight and even garnered the nomination of Best Actor award in Golden Bell Awards which will be broadcast next month. But he is male. Look at Cheryl, she did the bed scene with Ethan Ruan.

    Wonder if all the 7Ps dare do the steamy scenes, especially Rui-En. But we cannot ask her to do this as she has her own style which her fans like.

    I am sure 3J can do this especially Jeanette. We never see Jeanette do the steamy scenes. 3Js had kissing scenes with Elvin. If you ask Dawn, Fiona, Felicia and Ruien to do the steamy scenes, i am sure they will not cause hot news in the media industry…Can you imagine these 4 non-Js to do the steamy scenes? cannot, right.

    I am not sure if the Media Authority will allow Mediacorp to film these steamy scenes. there is a need to have hot/bed scenes in every drama but it depends on the plot/genre.

    i dun wish to see Jesseca in a safe role anymore as what Paul said she always been stick in the same mould. No more soft, timid or kind role for her…Since she has the potential, i rathar see her in a bad or strong character role,something can make the viewer remember her. not necessary to be a ugly or insane role:).

    But again we need a good script writer

    For me, previously all come out the same. But as the time progress….
    1. JA is the most likeable one. Her acting has improved a lot, and she is getting prettier. She is just humble, hard working and I think she is the best choice to go up for new Queen now.
    2. Jessica Liu. She is also very humble and likeable. She could make people like her a lot on the screen. She just need a ’special’ role to make her stands out.
    3. Joanne. Her acting yes has improved. However she does not have the ‘comfy’ look as JA.
    4. Felicia. Just at Ultimatum I could notice that she could act. However, I just feel that she is a bit over exposed, some might be good some might be not.
    5. Rui En. Feel nothing at the beginning then develop the likeness of her.
    She is just special.
    6. Dawn. Just need to improve a lot.
    7. Fiona. No comment, just hope one day she knows what she wants.

    Story on something refreshing, energic played by Jeanette, Joanne, Rui En, Jessica, Felicia Versus Chris, DYT, Yu wu, Elvin, TPH, could be something very special to watch.

    Well, I would really like to see Rui En playing the lead female role in next year’s blockbuster drama, regardless of what genre is the drama going to be, as long as the character is good for her to “fa hui”. Particularly, I think a poor and pitiful girl who comes from a very bad family, who has a bad fate in her life and eventually suffered from a terminal illness. I personally think such a role would really leave a lasting impression on audiences who have watched Rui En’s brilliant acting. Hope this would come true!!!

    Why only on the 7 princess? how about those male artistes? Mediacorp seemed more emphasis on the ladies?

    (Paul: How about every artiste? Must set a perimeter or else we end up heading no where…and it’s just my opinion, not MediaCorp)

    Rui En: She already proved that she is able to portray a cool or cheerful or emo role very well. Hence, I hope that she can try some baddie role… those really bad and despicable one, but in the end she’ll turn over a new leaf. Or no matter how bad she can be, she still shows unconditional love towards a man in the show . She have not try any baddie role before, so I think it’ll be another breakthrough for her. 风骚 bar-girl? hmm…may be interesting..but will have to depend on whether she is willing to take up the role.

    Jeanette Aw: I think she should stop playing those very strong role, like the one in TLN or Together. She is good at such role, but playing repetitive or similar role is a bit sianz for us. She can try weak role instead, maybe something like jingjing? Bcos it’ll be great to see how she portray such role again after a few years, given that she has shown improvement.

    Felicia Chin: She has really try out many roles recently, but not all turn out very well. I think she can try some icy role. One that dun talk a lot and have many 内心戏.

    It’ll be perfect if mdc can cast all 7 princesses in a drama, but I think it’s impossible. So maybe can consider the above 3? If it’s still difficult, then just have RE and JA. I really hope that they can collaborate in a drama, at least for once.

    Actually we can see that Felicia can portrayed different types roles all these years. Example like The Champion, Portrait Of Home, The Beginning, The Golden Path, Love Blossoms, The Ultimatum etc and the upcoming Baby Bonus. We can really see different types and characters of Felicia Chin in all her series without thinking that is Felicia Chin! She is just like the role inside the series! At least she is not the type that only suits one type of role. I have confidence on her that she can play any roles well. Or perhaps she can try those handicapped roles? I think she never tried it before and I think she can play it well. Anyway, hope that Mediacorp can cast her amongst the 6 new drama.

    I would say you can all the risk as far as TV drama is concerned. By all means, let them try the different roles contrary to their personalities and see how far they can go. But on the silverscreen, it is too much risk to take extreme role. Taiwaness actress Lin Ching Hsia holds the silverscreen for at least more than one decades and even at 56, she still captures the heart of more than a thousand fans to her press conference, amazing. That is how successful she is, she is not only good in acting but full of charisma. How many people would remember you at the age of 56, still anticipating for your new movie.

    Of the 7 of them, Jesseca, Jeanette and Joanne are quite ready to be tried on the silverscreen. MDC, please release them to the local producers and directors to be tried out. If the other companies are willing to throw money on them to be tried out, it is no lost to MDC, at least you are not using your own money as ‘guinea pig’. If you never try, you will never know.
    If you don’t jump into the water, you will never learn to swim.
    I hope to see more collaboration of our local artistes to be rope in by our local producers and directors for more movies on the cinema.
    Usually it is the directors who will a make the final decision in the castings.

    Protectionism can ‘kill’ a healthy baby, can also ‘kill’ an industry, can also kills ‘an economy and drains out your profits’; all these from economic point of view.

    Look at Fann Wong, she jumps out of her comfort zone and venture and she has made a name for herself. Look at the amount of advertising that is coming in for her, you will know her popularity both in Singapore and Asia. The question is ‘Do you want to have more of ‘Fann Wong kind’ of celebrities or are you just contented to keep all your artistes and eventually retreat from the entertainment world silently.?

    This kind of mindset is when Joanne said that she wants to make it out of Singapore. At first glance, people would say ‘She is so bold to make such a statement but I guess it is her aspiration and goal, she is having the global mindset.’ And as they venture, you co-partnership with your artistes, holds their hands as they learn to fly in the global sky, then you will make the Singapore media, find a place in this world.

    I pass by the land at Jurong where the Tang Village used to be there and now it was an empty land. Make a ‘big’ local filming studios there for our young enterprising producers and directors to ‘rent’ these studios for them to venture into the media world. India created ‘Bollywood’ to sell their media, America created ‘Hollywood’ to infest the world with Western media, Hong Kong and China is coming out with a new site for filming, what does Singapore has, no big studios.

    Get rid of the ’small pond’ mentality. When a man begins to fish for business, he goes out to the big sea to catch ‘big fishes’. Yes, more risk and bigger storm but bigger fish. You don’t see whale in the sea, only in ocean. Small ponds breed small fishes. Any producers or directors who set their hearts to make a movie will have a global market in mind, looking beyond the shores of this nation. How to make a movie fly, there are many ways – from storyline to actors and actress and publicity but most of all, the supernatural way which most people do not have access to it.

    Felicia needs two to three years to be more matured in ‘looks and behaviour’. I was quite impressed by her role in the Golden Path especially after ‘marrying TPH in the show’, she suddenly matures, shed off the ‘Ah Lian’ image and becomes a matured lady, more composed in her behaviour.

    Dawn is still young and need more years to ‘catch-up’ with the 3 J’s. Give her a little more executive role like being a business executive like that of Fann Wong when she is around her age and see how see fair, shed off the teenage girl image.

    Rui-en takes on CID and counselling roles very well so why not give her something not of the usual.

    Fiona, not much comments, not seen her on TV for quite sometime.

    Whatever it is, ‘looks’ would still play a part of being a celebrity. Sometimes your acting can be good but if you lack the beauty, you will be limited to TV acting, little opportunities to go to silverscreen.
    Acting can always be improved, experiment and brush up but beauty is something that got to be a gift bestowed naturally and then with makeup and hairdo, it will enhance it further.

    In the Romantic Delicacies, amongst all the ladies actress, the mark difference is in Jesseca Liu. Her appearance was like a swan that stands out amongst all the casts. She holds the audiences to the drama.

    In the Little Nyonya, I don’t have to say much about Jeanette.
    I am yet to her in the new drama ‘Together’ before I comment. I want to see how she would fair as a dance hostess contrary to the Little Nyonya. Fiona is best for this type of role of dance hostess.

    For Joanne, she is trying her best to change. Good height, good communication skills and bold. Yet to see her new drama, ‘Your hands in Mine’ and see how see fair.

    The test of a good actress or actor is when you are thrown into a bunch of unpopular and ‘raw’ artistes and see how you can get the show going.

    Sorry explicit bed scenes, I do not encouraged. It is okay if the bed scenes are carried out by ‘married’ couples such as HuiFang and Geping or Priscilla and Alan. It is important to put forth to our youths that it is not ‘good’ to practise ‘having affairs before marriage’ because if what they see on the screen is ‘bed scenes’ of two singles people, subconsciously we are telling them that it is fine to practise it.

    Divorce is a simple process of two persons signing the papers but who would know the emotional trauma that accompanies it. Young people are in the learning process, they don’t think very much. Put in the right values when they are young and they shall not depart from it when they mature.

    If I ever produce movie, it shall be low in sexual content, more positive values to help our children to cope with the pressures and temptation of lives.

    I think Mediacorp shld just narrow down to 2 most promising princesses to promote. Otherwise the support become diluted and none of them can really rise up. Till now, to be honest, they still lack the x factor that Zoe & Fann have, but what they hv now is their youth. Once over 30, perhaps they may not last as long as the 2 Ah Jies. Just my opinion.

    i personally would love to see Jess acting as a villian. like probably she can be a lawyer/doctor/some other professionals but with a wicked heart, and doing evil stuffs behind her professionalism. a really evil person..without feeling remorseful till the end, or probably turns over a new leaf in the last episode or something..or like one of the person suggested just now, let her try roles like an ill-fated, long suffering mother..that’d be interesting..

    for rui en, probably a more feminine role? a weaker role will be something different from what she has tried in the past..probably like one who has more emotional changes in the show, rather than being happy-go-lucky all the time..

    dawn should be given more mature roles instead of those bubbly young girl roles..

    can probably put jeanette in a sports drama again? all her roles in the past 2-3 years are those that have either very weak or very strong character. so probably her roles should be like those with mild personality but has potential in sports or something..

    as for felicia and joanne, i actually think that they’ve tried portraying various roles and i haven’t think about what else they should try taking up yet..

    Felicia has really tried out alot of roles already leh…from cool tomboy in the champion, innocent and virtuous mei ren yu in tong xin yuan, unscrupulous businesswoman in yuan dian, sunshine cheerful xiao bao in bai wan bao…and in the golden path alone we see many sides of her througout the show. well done.

    i think she is one of the best actress among the 7Ps alongside Ruien and JA perhaps.

    hope felicia can be given a real evil and baddie role. that will be great. cast her in a show alongside the likes of DYT,zhang yao dong maybe, looking forward to hearing good news about her getting a new drama

    I think I should be fair to comment on every Princess, as everyone did. So here goes:

    Jesseca Liu: So far I was most impressed by her Xing Fu Shuang Ren Chuang role years back. Since TDC, I discovered she could really act, but even the current 7pm show lacks surprises. She needs a role with an image completely different from her past attempts, so that we could focus more on her acting.

    Jeanette Aw: I don’t have much to say about the scope of roles Jeanette should take up on. From dim-witted, scheming, dancer, nyonya to sweetie pies roles, it wouldn’t be fair to others if we said that she has not been given her chances. Perhaps for Jeanette, it isn’t so much about the roles she get as she usually do, but who she acts opposite with. A little comparison is still necessary to convince and win over people.

    Joanne Peh: She has perhaps handled the most versatile range of roles, from tomboys to demure ladies. But one common point links all her roles, she is not stupid. She has always been handed roles that are witty/knowledgeable, she should perhaps try more heartlander type of role, to improve on her popularity.

    Felicia Chin: There is a very strong presence of “Felicia Chin” in most of her roles. Other than TGP as Lin Fei, one could really see “Felicia acting as XXX/YYY/ZZZ” (even her good friend said something similar in CelebriTea). We can see her effort, but it isn’t there yet, we can’t see the “role”. She is a cheery and youthful girl, I think it would be convincing if she is casted in shows that pursue dreams, especially in sports.

    Rui En: We tend to stereotype her before even watching her acting. Either we are too used or we are too stubborn, Rui En should be Rui En, many would say that. And we are fine that her roles are not raped or revealing.

    I always feel very relaxed and comfortable watching her acting, time and time again, she draws me in to connect with the role. Even as an ice mountain, I could feel the waves of emotions rippling inside the character. Watch episodes 11 and 15 of By My Side over the 2 next two Sundays if you don’t believe me.

    Because Rui En has a strong stance in guiding her principles, she makes it convincing as a law enforcer. I think this may perhaps be where her challenge lies in – the Law. Lawyer, police or law-breaker. It would be interesting to see her as a drug addict too. And yes, make use of the fact that she is the better singer among the Princesses, just like how Jeanette is the better dancer amongst them.

    On paper, we cant deny some roles hint of a Best Actress Nomination without the need to consider who the actress is. Else explain how people could nominate Jeanette for Best Actress 2010 before even watching the show? Confidence and realistic judgement are two different matters.

    I don’t remember any of Jesseca’s or Rui En’s last roles being of such calibre? If on paper the roles don’t hint of a nomination, then it must be the actresses’s commendable acting that value-adds to the roles. Don’t they hence deserve a chance?

    i suggest giving felicia a new genre of drama that she has yet to try, which is police or CID type of drama. get Julian Hee back to partner her in this show ;D
    rui en can play a ‘weak’ character inside the sameshow with alot of emotional scenes.

    i think jeanette has really matured over time to become an all-rounded and versatile actress! i really love how she portrays her emotions and her ability to give life to whatever role she plays

    i would love seeing jeanette take on a role similar to Zoe Tay’s character Bobo in Pretty Faces 三面夏娃. this role is a challenging one but i have no doubt that jeanette will be able to handle it.

    alternatively, jeanette could be casted in a role similar to Fann wong’s character Fang Ling in Chronicle of Life 缘尽今生. this is a role which goes through many ups and downs and which left a very deep impression on me.

    jesseca – famous tennis player
    dawn – youngest but most unfavourite child in a family of three sisters, the other 2 sisters can be eelyn and ann
    rui en – drug addict
    fiona xie – mute lady who has to build her career up the ladder (can cover the weakness in her vocals and may have a complete changeover in image)

    felicia chin – has been given ample opportunities, fail to shine, do not wish to waste another role on her.
    joanne peh – has been given ample opportunities and despite even winning best actress, fail to improve her popularity with the people and win the hearts of the heartlanders, maybe due to her tendency to act “big time” “act smart” and her “breast” saga is hard to erase since last year, do not wish to take another risk on her.

    totally agree with James on Guo Hui Wen, she deserves to be a “princess”, that being the case, i will most likely remove joanne peh to put Guo Hui Wen in. It should be something to watch for our local audience. Ms Guo has a amiable personality, a smile that appeal to the masses as it melts the heart. When she has her glasses on, like the picture in her blog, she looks like Chen XinYi of Ming Zhong Zhu Ding Wo Ai Ni. Ms Guo is huge in underlying inherent potentials. As EP, I will highest take on her.

    I think that it will be refreshing to see Rui En in a ‘bad’ yet ’sympathetic’ role. She hasn’t had that challenge in any of her roles although I feel she has a lot of potential. Some of the suggestions above are quite good: as a drug addict, or even as feng sao bar girl… Please don’t give her any more repeats of previous roles, such as the yang guang xing character-type, or police roles. People want to see actors and actresses stretched, and not just acting a role they have done before (even if they were good then).

    Another person who can be stretched is Jessica Liu. She’s pretty good. Would like to see her in a ‘bad’ role too- the 7pm show is a good change from her usual guai roles.

    Please don’t just concentrate on Felicia, Joanne or Jeanette. I think they have been given ample opportunities, but they still lack likeability in some way or another… Jeanette’s acting still needs to improve, Joanne and Felicia don’t connect emotionally

    i think can let jeanette act as a hostess again, but this time out of her own accord. she can play one who kills someone who rapes her and goes to jail, and gives birth to her baby in jail. and then when she comes out, she is discriminated against, and she almost killed herself but a new boyfriend stops her and helps her compose herself and get back to life!

    as for other princesses, erm, i think fiona can act in some dimwit role who is always bullied by people. pat mok can play an auntie cum volunteer counsellor who takes her in and helps her, and fiona will slowly recover.!

    Yes, I agree that she should not take all the strong-willed character. But two is not considered too much. If she could make the audience see the difference between TLN and Together then wont it be great? I have confidence that we will be able to see the difference this time round. Andand, it just may break another viewership ratings record?

    I feel that JA should take up a role like BOBO. Its sexy, materialistic and it would be a good change.

    Secondly, I would also like to see her in linda chung(heart of greed) kind of role. Chang Zai Xin in heart of greed has really made me go WOW. She is extremely compatible with Lin Feng. Andand her heartbroken, wanna cry, loud, not strong but not weak character, JA should really try it out. Ja maybe go with 715? She can really portray the weak and strong characters at times in CHANG ZAI XIN. Her crying scenes would be cool too.

    Also, her ‘I need no man’ kind of role when she found out that Lin Feng had another character was awesome. And the stylio milo way she dumped Lin Feng. I would reallyreally love to see JA in this kind of role.

    Let me start off with Dawn. I think she should be given a role like “Mo Jing Jing”. Very innocent-looking, at the same time dumb which is enjoyable to watch. If not, give her a role which requires the character to be very wild. For example, a ah lian role. She pulled off the role quite well the previous time she acted in “Rhythm of Life”.

    Jesseca should act as a mother. A young mother. It would be extremely interesting to see her acting as a mother because it will be her first time acting as a mother. So, mummy jess okay?

    Fiona should act as a villain. She will be able to carry out a bad role well I guess. She should be given a role like Lin Mei Jiao in “The Little Nyonya”.

    Joanneshould act as a butch. Get a haircut and she is ready to act as a butch. I see potential that she can be a very appealing butch.

    Rui En should be given a role like “Yue Niang” in “The Little Nyonya”. Very determined. But she definitely cannot fit into the genre as she look very modern. Not saying that Jeanette look like she is from the genre but she fit into the genre better than the other princesses. Not including Joanne. She should be given a very very emotional in short because I don’t recall seeing her in acting as a very emotional girl.

    Jeanette should not take on roles which are emotional anymore. I agree, others should have an equal chance. BUT, what I would like to say is Jeanette has really excelled in acting as a very emotional girl because she has got what it takes. Being “3rd ah jie” is not so easy. I believe she will put a very good show in “Together” for us. Let’s wait and see. I think she should be given a role like.. An “Angel”. She is actually very bad but she act as an “Angel” to get close to them. Then when she cannot take it anymore, she ki siao. I want to see Jeanette acting as a crazy girl. It would be very interesting because I believe she can prove the viewers that not only Joanne can do it. Felicia failed thoroughly.

    Felicia should act as a girl who is very revengeful. She got trampled on by the people and bullied emotionally and physically. She would like to take revenge after getting close to them but then after she seeked revenge, she felt very remorseful. An Angel okay!

    None of the “Princesses” can be replaced by any Female Artistes. You want to put Eelyn Kok in to replace a “Princess”, go to your Dreamland. Who is famous, who is not? Eelyn Kok, Eelyn Kok. You see her name in almost every post. Let’s see, let’s see if she makes it into the Top 10 Most Popular Female Artistes anot. If no, there is no need for Mediacorp to promote her anymore. I feel that Priscelia is the one who should be promoted instead of Eelyn. Her acting skills are much better than Eelyn’s. But since Eelyn has got “fans” which Priscelia does not has, promote Eelyn first. Felicia, Jeanette and Joanne are often mentioned because they have successfully stood out amongst the other “Princesses”. Jesseca is the “Princess” that will be focused on this. Also, Felicia. End of year will be Jeanette and Joanne once again. I hope 2010’s End-of-year Blockbuster Drama will not be a drama of different genre set back to the 60’s, 70’s, 80’s, or 90’s again.

    i think the 7ps shld given more roles like in the 90s. although their performances are not bad at all, and they are improving. but as compared to the 2 ah jies fann and zoe, they still need to do some catch up. well some might argue that fann and zoe at both 38 and 41 respectively , of course their acting skills are better. but i hope the 7ps fans and even the princess do take a look on the repeat drama at 11pm and 12am. The return of the condor heros and Rising expectation by both ah jies when they are in their prime, 27yr old in 1998 for fann and 29 yr old in 1997 for zoe. when the 2 ah jies are in their 20s, their performance really wowed us, even then i was just a pri/sec student. i think none of the princess has the sweet look like fann, and can have a good period drama images like fann. Her image as well as acting are very good at the age of 27 then. You see Jessica and Jeanette both 30 this yr, they are good, but not GREAT. also when i watch the the repeated Rising Expectation by zoe tay when she was 29 yr old then, her acting was superb either. From a fish monger to a cunning women. every view of hers is drama. So, if the 2 ah jies can be a drama guru when they are in 20s, i think the 7 princess given more varities of roles and mayb send them to some professional acting lesson?

    but one thing to note both fann and zoe roles are quite limited these days. For the past 10 yrs, fann always played good role mostly. it would be good and she sure has the potential to act those villian or even slutish role. during early 90s, she acted a lot of these role which really Shine her acting to us audience. As for zoe, she keep on playing good mother roles. it will be good to give her a break through like a drug addict or sth… if there arent good roles for the 2 ah jies,i rather they rest at home until there is good drama for them to pick up and not force them to act just to fulfil quotas or etc.. u see in HK, actresses like kenix kwok and maggie cheung ho yee, they also nv keep on acting, they choose their tvb dramas wisely for a break through. So no good dramas for the ah jies, dont give them to spoil their reputation like T.U.

    looking forward for fann transformation after her marriage and maybe give birth to baby soon. so when she came back, then i believe her life experience will proceed her to more challenging roles.

    anyway all the princesses acting are good la, but not great. if you wanan compare against the 2 ah jies. many actresses when they are in 20s have good acting skill already like zoe, fann, biren, jacelyn tay and ivy lee. Ann kok acting skill get better when she was in her early 30s though.

    just let the princesses keep trying diff roles, that will train them up i believe.

    i hope jeanette can play in some idol drama, like 命中注定我爱你 type. I think some actress are trying so hard to prove that they can act that they ignored the likability factor. But i think MDC should try some idol drama (with good script) and let Jeanette play the female lead since she is well-liked by the majority of Singaporeans. Idol drama has been the craze in Taiwan, Korea and even Japan, Singapore should have a idol drama that can attract as much attention already =)

    Felicia: yeah, i think that a villian role will be a refreshing role for Felicia to try as she has never tried this genre of role before. Maybe something like, a killer/murderer? Oh, it will be best if she can collaborate with other male artiste, for instance, DYT? Since she has been pairing up with TPH for the past serials. As according to what i remember, the most “villian” role she played was in “The Beginnings”, so i thought this will be an interesting and new experience for her.

    Joanne: i think it’s time for joanne to have a break, since her show will be airing for 9 months next year. it will bore us out to see her at both 7pm and 9pm.

    Jeanette: she has been given many chances to shine, 2 end-of-year blockbuster, it’s enough! Or maybe she should be given some roles like a lawyer? Maybe this could train her to improve on her speaking tone.

    Jesseca: she should be given a similar role to the one in Romantic Delicacies as i agree that she is really one actress that can act really well. she should be given more chance to shine.

    Dawn: maybe some matured roles?

    Rui En: really hope that she can portray some roles that she has never tried. She should really open up and expose to a wider range of roles, including those that requires kissing scenes.

    i wld love to see a breakthrough role for jesseca too!

    one of the stereotypical breakthrough roles would of cos be a villianous role, or someone who turns mad or undergoes some kind of drastic personality transformation. although i personally dun like such roles very much, they seem to be the stepping stone for a best actress award, so for jesseca’s sake i hope that she will be given the chance!

    alternatively, a more humanistic, realistic role–not a perfect, sweet, goody too shoes character, nor a complete villian–but rather someone with beliveable traits and a personality which viewers can empathize and identify with. perhaps a cool, strong willed, stubborn person who occasionally resorts to using underhand methods to get what she wants, but ultimately has a kind heart and a sense of what is right and wrong, and grapples internally with her faults and foibles.

    Or maybe a comical character–someone silly, petty, money minded, but lovable at the same time.

    and finally, for jessecas sake–a role in a period drama. think she wld look lovely in a gu dai xing xiang.

    On a separate note, why not cast all the 7Ps into one drama? It could be set in a university, and each of the 7 princessess play a different type of personality. all the lovely stereotypical school characters could come into play–the nerdy geek, the school belle, the backstabbing bitch, the popular girl, the wallflower, the intellectual student, etcetc, and of cos there shld be young handsome hunks casted to match the leading ladies as well.

    actually no need to cast every one of the 7 p. would still prefer other actresses, mature in their acting and which i do not get tired of watching. for eg, aileen tan, zoe, fann (but her face too tight already), ann kok, priscelia, eelyn, cynthia, yvonne and phyllis quek. think there’s overemphasis on 7 p. because, if u give them such titles and they do not live up to the titles in looks, character or acting skills, it can be frustrating. attention all EPs of mediacorp, stick to your core business, bring out the best acting and best artiste with excellen “guan zhong yuan”. this is what really matters. but personally, jeannette and rui en are good and solid staff! use them! the rest of the 7 p have a long way to go to catch up with the actresses i mentioned. so spare us, particularly, joanne peh, think she makes a better politician (my only worry – will anyone vote for her party?)than actress. hope the EPs hear my message to them loud and clear.

    1. Jeanette – bitchy, feels that the whole world owes her something (she have been doing those kind girls since Holland V)

    2. Jesseca – exaggerating, loud, big ‘ah-lian’ ( Jess have been doing those kind and pathetic roles from the start, Maybe she can be Singapore’s Cheryl Yang, 杨瑾华?)

    3. Dawn – pretty girl, but has this very disgusting voice, somewhat a malaysian+taiwan+china chinese ( Maybe this could change people’s perception on her ‘teeeh’ voice?)

    4. Joanne – ??? Don’t know what to look out in her.

    5. Rui En – I just hope she plays her beautiful, bimbo roles that she used to have

    6. Felicia – I bet she’ve tried all sorts of roles in this year. Not much to expect from her.

    7. Fiona – 哭包. Super lack of confidence despite her attributes. Somewhat like her role in Love Concierge 2006. A leading role this time.( A challenge to her, maybe this can make her show her acting skills and not destroying her ‘Princess image?)

    why not have a jin zhi yu nie?? u know the hk tvb drama about concubines.. have that!

    let JA be the lead. then fiona xie be the evil palace maid who tries to seduce the king.. then also become concubine. but the king still love JA the most.

    then joanne can be the.. erm… aiyo.. she dun suit this drama. out.

    maybe felicia can be like the king’s daughter aka princess la. then give her some love story.

    but most impt is who is the king? i hope u can consider me. if you say yes i will send u my pic hahaa…

    adding to the two roles i have previously suggested, i would love to see jeanette playing the role of a long suffering woman from young to old – something similar to Huang Biren’s character in An Ode to Life 三十风雨路.

    jeanette really has the acting chops and the mass appeal – qualities which are found in successful actors and actresses. hope that her star continues to shine brightly in the entertainment industry!

    Out of the 7P only 5 are GOOD but NOT GREATas compared with
    our 2 ah jies Zoe and Fann.
    After a number of years have passed, only 5 performing quite well that is JA, JP, RE, FC and JL.

    JA constraint is her voice and tone too “sharp” when she speaks whereas her acting already reached some standard.
    JP should put in more effort and the day will come.
    RE acting skills not bad but too “COLD” attitude if she still dun change sooner or later the audience got to wear winter clothings.
    FC is getting better nowadays.
    JL must double up or else will be left behind.
    Dawn limited to cutie role and also becos of her look just very japanese.
    Fiona limited to sexy role and now worse keeps going missing in action or maybe not interested liao.

    Yeah… agree with Rafafan that Joanne has done remarkably well over the last two years in experimenting different kind of roles from tomboy (Like Father Like Daughter), sporty girl (Beach Ball Babes) until demure lady (TLN). But haven’t seen her in 古装戏, if any of such kind drama is coming, EP shall consider to cast her.
    I think Joanne is an actress that you (EP) can throw any role to her compare to other princesses as she has guts, bold, also her acting has improved tremendously, this make her stand out amongst 7p.
    But honestly speaking, I prefer her if she act in big screen.

    For Jessica, I like her in crying scene, likeable and natural acting, try her with demure role one or may be tomboy one.

    For Jeannete, I think she need a breakthrough role such as a really tomboy role that have short hair and throw away the girlish personality or may be role like Yu Zhu in TLN.

    For Felicia, she has acted many role but can’t enough convincing, just hope that she will not act cute, can try her for such a career woman role.
    Also for Fiona & Dawn, hope can see them as mature woman role.

    There are so many people who are envious of Jeanette because their favourite “Princesses” did not get to take part in a mega drama. Just to remind you, two is not a huge number. And if she is good at portraying the role given to her, why waste it? So far, she has proven that she has got what it takes. I saw a comment above. Avoid Jeanette, Joanne and Felicia as they have gotten enough chances to participate in mega dramas. But look at it, they are the ones that can fit into the role that is written by the script writer. I just feel that Jeanette has proven herself and why should she be kicked out from good roles? The more you are against them, the more I want them in. Jeanette should now take on roles which are loud. Going emotionally insane, being raped, or evil. She can be a devil, you see. So if you need a devil, try her out. She’s really good. Felicia should act as a devil too. Because she has not tried out roles which are bad. Joanne don’t really shine being an angel. These 3, let them take on the devil roles. The other 4, angel roles. Strongly recommend Fiona and Rui En to act as dumbwits. They can shine.

    Jeanette played tomboy before… she acted as a tomboy in the drama where she learn tai qi and work as a cook with body odour… She cut her hair short before.. as for break thru role.. honestly, she already have three roles that alot of people will still rmb and talk about which is jingjing, yueniang and juxiang.     Supposing this is script-writing time and i have to put in my choice of actresses, i’ll have rui en and jeannette as key actresses, supported by dawn and jesseca. i’m not too sure if fiona will deliver, so maybe it’s no go. i’ll send felicia for some in-house training course first before exposing her further, because, after the breakthrough ultimatum role, no one was even impressed, so retraining is trully needed for her. oh yes, joanne peh, personally i feel her talent is not in acting, she has to have people to like her first. it’s a headache for me when people keep reminding themselves about her controversial breast. i may recommend her to some modelling agencies to focus on being a model or something but definitely not in mediacorp.

    amazing why after giving some an awesome title of “princess”, the public doesn’t seem impressed, i will rethink if there is a need to have such a term. i see the name eelyn kok, ann kok and priscelia chan mentioned in almost every post, the audience should expect to see them in my new dramas in 2010. so, for the audience, be patient, you will not be disappointed. I have your interest at heart.

    I hope MDC will produce more period dramas. Compare the drama genres in 90s and in 2000s. Singaporeans still rmb great dramas from 90s due to their variety.

    One Suggestion: Rebuild some MDC areas into backdrop suitable for period drama filming. Then produce more period dramas~

    Alt: MDC may consider remaking some of the more popular 90s dramas like
    妈姐情缘，解连环，金牌师爷 etc.

    Jeanette: i remembered one show that really captured me was “The Peak” by her. tomboyish, after that crippled.. thought that was really a great performance! mayb she can try something like taht again.. if not a comedy will be interesting also, AND I REALLY HOPE SHE CAN BE PAIRED WITH 715 AGAIN! love their chemistry!

    Jessica: An action show like CID or something? or a naive girl role..

    Rui en: Comes from a poor family background. got to suppport the family. cast ruien in more show man! she is one of the actress i really find comfortable to watch…

     Sorry for post so many qns. I was in KL last weekend and heard this MC-Mal drama “家在半山芭” my friends talk to me about. Seems like a comedy and funny. Also the theme song is sung by Wei Lian and very popular now among Malaysian audience.

     this drama should win some sympathy votes for fiona: fiona xie acting as unpopular actress who try to pull weight by connecting with minister (acted by tay ping hui), resulting in a shameless scandalous affair with the minister and the minister’s wife (acted by rui en) who is a high-flyer in the corporate world. the wife sued fiona xie. this is a sad ending for fiona xie and the minister. subsequently, the minister was also shamelessly sacked from his post.

     I’d also love to see Jeanette acting as a villain. Not referring to those who just keeps scolding or doing bad things openly, I meant those who are scheming and evil on the inside. It will definitely be a new challenge for Jeanette. But I am sure she can take up any role that comes to her.

     Recently I came to find Jesseca quite a nice lady. Simple and humble. I’m looking forward to the new show of these two beautiful ladies – New Beginnings. (:

     如果有一天欧萱和瑞恩同剧演出！那将是破天荒绝无仅有的！我将全力支持她们！剧中的两个角色，黑社会老大姐及女律师分别由她们两个饰演，而如果由欧萱来演女律师将更好！我想大家都想知道她是否能应付语言表达及台词对白，同时还得兼顾演技表现吧？至于女律师辩护的对象当然就是黑社会大姐！还有如果再加上刘芷绚饰演性感风骚的陪酒女郎更是最好不过了。既然这出戏里有黑社会也就要有警官，人选嘛希望是７１５或黄俊雄；当然也要有小混混，就由洪赐健来演吧！还有放高利贷之类的. . . . . . . !
     以上只是我拼凑出来的构想，其实是蛮希望真的见到他们同剧演出！

     How abt a local Charlies’ Angels with 3 ps and Zoe as ‘Lady Charlie’, their boss giving them assignments. Or Zoe taking over a modelling agency with all the lousy models and turning them into ‘Wow’ models. I think Mediacorp shld churn out more comedies, mystery thrillers or scary shows rather than those family feuds, Food empire type of dramas. And of cos, opposite Zoe, the leading man must be Li Nan Xing.

     It’d be good to see MDC produce more dramas based on happenings ard the edge of society. Not the typical aunties uncles goings-ons in the neighbourhood or family-centred kinda shows but rather, shows with more quirky and edgy kinda themes. Inspiration can be taken from the daily news. To have the 7Ps acting in these shows would be a good change for them and for us viewers.

     I hope to see Jesseca in more sinister roles. Her initial baddie role in Romantic Delicacies was too mild and I just couldn’t think of her as a bad character while watching it. Maybe because I knew she was turning good from the middle onwards. I think she can deliver better in such baddie roles. Even simple office politics-backstabbing cum hungry for success can be a breakthru for her in terms of her acting portfolio. Same goes for Jeannette. I oso wana see her in a big baddie role for once. Just not sure if she’s ready for it anot. I’d love to see Jesseca in more dreamy, simple-minded-cum-childish kinda roles. Most of the roles she play and even her own persona gives off a matured/sensible vibe. Think it’d be interesting!

     Pls do not give up on Dawn. I think she can still shine in her own way. Jus give her more time to ‘mature’

     Being both of their characters are totally different.
     Felicia being a all rounder and miss popular in school with all guys dream date that kind of girl.
     Rui En being those plain jane kind of girl and being very very quite girl. Also her character will change to be more outgoing once she did volunteering work on her free time.

     sounds really interesting if the story is about a minister of malaysia or indonesia, or if in singapore, then maybe a member of parliament involved in meet the people’s sessions, then perhaps he is embroiled into an affair because the actress is making use of the minister to “put pressure” on the tv station to make her famous and popular. so the affair started and the actress throws her weight around because she is associated with so and so and the affair was soon found out by the public because of the actress own doing. the story entangles and evolves, especially when other actresses in the tv station cry foul when that scandalous actress gets privileged treatment from the tv station for no obvious reasons. the public shun the actress because rumour spreads round as people see the minister and the actress together. the public also cannot understand why such an unpopular actress is filmed again and again, to the public’s discontent. the minister’s family was broken up and his career gone because of the affair. the tv station also subsequently lost out to the other tv stations and subsequently liquidated. the actress finally committed suicide.

     Jesseca Liu should play a very act cute but not cute role. Should get her to twist a lot in the show. Since she is so likable, being sickening for the viewers would be considered a success.

     Fiona Xie should be given a role like Jing Jing in Holland V. She will be able to play it very well given her own character because most of time, she looks very lost. Acting like an idiot will definitely do her good. A likable role like Jing Jing will her earn the fame she had before back too. Using one stone to kill two birds, why not?

     Dawn Yeoh should be given a role given a very emotional role to test whether her acting has improved, or not. However, she should not try on a role like Yue Niang in The Little Nyonya because Yue Niang will be Yue Niang and no one can try to come into it. Jeanette Aw has left such a strong impression on the viewers such that no artistes can be the second Yue Niang. Do you get what I mean? Dawn should get a very emotional role like Yu Chen in The Ultimatum. Driven to the corner of depression. However, a better storyline that The Ultimatum because The Ultimatum was a total disappointment.

     Rui En should act as a very nice girl but often stand to lose out. She is a very nice girl who is very good to everyone. She treats everyone better than how she treat herself. Because of her character, she is often used by many people who would like to stand to small advantages. She then meet a sick guy but she does not know that he is sick and she likes him a lot. The guy started off trying to be her “friend”. Because they were “friends”, the guy had more chances to interact with her and therefore knows what are her weak points. The guy then could not tolerate with the temptation anymore and he raped her. She was then emotionally hurt and is afraid of guys. She then became a butch who fall for girls.

     Jeanette Aw should act as a weak girl who is very often bullied. At the middle of the show, she meets someone who gives her the courage to stand up for herself slowly, gradually. Towards the ending of the show, she finally stands up for herself, completely and wants revenge on the people who bullied her in the past. She wants revenge so much that whenever she cannot revenge on anyone, she would be driven insane.

     Felicia Chin should act as a villain. A big villain like Lin Mei Jiao in The Little Nyonya. If she receive cold stares from the public like Mei Jiao Jie, she would be neck to neck with Jeanette in becoming the third Ah-Jie in Mediacorp as she is already not short of popularity. It is her acting that needs a confirmation for the viewers.

     If Mediacorp is really rich and Joanne Peh is not afraid of being fat for some time, she should take on a role like Fei Tian in Fei Tian Xi Shi. It will be a great breakthrough for her and I believe that she will gain a lot of popularity from it. As long as her popularity rises, she will be fit enough to fight for the third Ah-Jie title together with Jeanette and Felicia. This Fei Tian role likewise, can be given to Jeanette or Felicia too if they are not afraid of being fat for some time.

     but MOST (not all) of the 7 princesses have worked hard and improved over the years. I guess a persn’s acting will only improve through experience. Think Jeannette & Joanne are the luckiest among the batch since given fantastic roles. Luck & opportunity very important in this line. These princesses should get to act in roles they have not acted before, and MCS should give others (ie non princesses) the opportunity.

     Kinda of irrelevant here, but since i spoke about the 5 jies, i am so amazed & yet proud of Ann’s “comeback”. I love her acting, her looks, and also her songs. HOpe she will have opportunity to see drama theme songs again. I was surfing youtube and these are some of her songs. Why not consider her singing the “daddy at home” or quan jia fu theme song.

     Hmm… I would really love to see Rui En acting in another blockbuster drama during the 60s, 70s and 80s next year. She would look extremely good and outstanding in her ‘fu gu zao xing’ – character-look. I am sure Mediacorp can definitely come up with another storyline that is different from “Together” but still on the period from the 60s to 80s. Of course, must replace JA with Rui En for the lead female role. Must give Rui En a chance mah…. cannot always be JA whenever it comes to blockbuster drama.

Other than, 风骚女, I’m sure she will be able to portray a 古代侠女、反派、嗜毒者, etc well. An actress doesn’t necessary need a rape scene or seductive role to have breakthrough. Give her a chance in a blockbuster, and she will prove it to you.

     This is not only my perception, many of friends said that too. He singing is not that bad too.

     Dawn Yeo has a unique feature. She has the look of a combination of Zoe and Fann on her face if you were to look at her carefully. Quite pretty.

     Hey, u guys like that say not very fair to Jeanette leh. Its not her fault that she is casted in the two blockbuster dramas in Tln and together. Media corp gave her only a few chances and u guys say its biased. Jp also got two roles in the blockbuster drAMAS. although not lead role. Bleah.

     I think that when she missed out the top10 in year 2007, mediacorp feel that not much chances were given to her. Most of the good roles during that period is snapped up by jp, fc, RE, etc. Jp during year 2007 got 5 9pm slot tv shows leh. Of which, most can be breakthrough characters. Jeanette roles once again revolve around the same old thing. Very ‘diao man’ and ‘ren xing’. The peak, switch and another one with peirce png. Can I ask this question, why mediacorp gave her the same type of roles over the years after the Holland V?

     It really wasted her youth. From 24yrs-28. 4years of declining popularity. Although when she was 24, she got quite alot advertisment and hype from Holland V. When she was 25, luckily she got my spice siblings and the champions. Which is also pretty much a breakthrough. But after she turns 26, her roles are pretty much the same, not much breakthrough. I think its because all the good roles from year 2005 is snapped up by the new introduction of young stars, like RUI EN, FC AND JP.

     rEMEMBER? THESE three fought for the best newcomer in which JP won. Her youth was pretty much wasted like 3years before tln. Finally, when she missed out the star awards, mediacorp finally becomes aware of her declining popularity and decided to give her tln.

     SO i FEEL THAT MEDIACORP IS ONLY GIVING HER THE APPROPRIATE CHANCES. aND THAT SHE DESERVED IT TOO. sHE HAVE PROVED HERSELF THROUGH THE LITTLE NYONYA AND IN ADDITION, SHE HAVE NOT GOT ANY DRAMAS LEFT FOR 2009 AS ALL THE ROLES ARE SNAPPED UP SO FAS. bY THE PRINCESSES AND VETERANS. sO THEY MUS AT LEAST GIV HER A ROLE LARH.

     Andand she filmed 4 dramas in year 2008. Really tired. shaolin warriors, rhythm, defining moment and tln. Wa. Total 30+20+20+34=104eps But not all are lead characters. But take into consideration that she need to go to CHINA to film. And malaysia for tln. So I feel that she took long leave for year 2009 resulting in all characters been snap up by the time she returned.

     So mediacorp most definitely muz giv her a role so that she can get in the top20 nomination…

     Time waits for no man. If you don’t capitalise on their youth to do movie on the silver screen, very soon it is going to pass them by. So I am seriously saying this to MediaCorp to release your artistes to local producers and directors for their engagement for the ‘potential’ Princess to do movie. It is definitely a memorable and exciting experience to be able to do one movie in their lifetime.
     That is what has happened to the first generation artistes. They had no chance to film movies and now it is even harder for them to go on silver screen.

     I would like to see a combination of yuwu and Jeanette on a movie first, then a trio combination of yuwu, Jeanette and Joanne on another movie, then a quadruplet combination of yuwu, Jeanette, Jesseca and TPH or a quadruplet combination of yuwu, Jeanette, Felica and TPH or yuwu, Jeanette, Joanne and TPH. I think it is going to be very interesting.
     Even Chen Han Wei can be a potential candidate for the silver screen.
     There can also be a trio combination of Jeanette, Joanne and Rui En in a movie. I think the production cost is going to explode with three and four ‘big’ stars in a movie.

     There is an upcoming movie called “Into the White Night” starring Son Ye Jin. The movie is about a couple (Son Ye Jin, Go Soo) who had killed their parents when young. The male lead actor can be either DYT or Elvin Ng and the detective pursuing them can be Tay Ping Hui.

     I have a random thought. Why is it that with our world renowned Changi Airport and SIA, I don’t recall an aviation related drama? The closest (that I could recall) being The Dream-Catchers where Elvin and Rui En played engineers of SIAEC.

     I think this would be a good theme suitable to cast many 公主小生. I would like to see Rui En, Elvin, Pierre & Qi Yuwu/Zhang Yaodong as pilots with Jesseca, Joanne, Felicia and DYT as air stewardess/steward.

     Haven seen jesseca act in a suffering show like jeanette aw and seems like jeanette aw has got more chances in these kind of shows, gaining experience and extra points from the audience. Maybe it’s time to give liu a chance to try instead of her always acting as those sweet or a little bad character girl. And besides a suffering side in the screen, character wise can be of those caring and good girl type since she has got girl-next door image, which should be kept. Also i feel that ancient dramas isnt suitable for her as then she might lose the image. besides suffering type of character, she might also be able to suit into blur girl character and needs a more caring pair to assist her. Can see that she has potential to meet the challenges from her acting skills…

     (Paul: Actually, people have forgotten that Jeanette was given too many despicable, angst-ridden, spicy roles in the past few years…it was TLN that ‘rescued’ her out from that pit lor…)

     Em sorry Paul.. i did not quite get u. What is TLN huh, Is it the little nonya? Sorry once again if i guess it wrongly, im bad in short forms..
     And yeah i agree that jeanette has acted a lot in those roles and people won’t remember, unless it’s really those very jia lat suffering that then ppl start to notice, like her role in the little nonya. And i guess it is also how jeanatte aw has gain experience thus able to bring out better effect in her given role in that show, if not we can also say that she has got talent in capturing such difficult role. I feel that jesseca was not given these kind of roles before or if yes maybe subtle ones, very little, not enough. Thus, she may also undergo suffering roles that jeanatte aw has been through, the drastic suffering kind to break through and alllow more people to notice her. Then only can we see a brighter star immersing even though she is already bright with acting skills nowadays. Can see that she has got talent just a lack of chance. Yeap! hope to see her break through in such role if there is a chance in future.

     To Paul:
     I honestly think that Jesseca is a great actress but kinda underated. She’s a natural and it’s always soooo comfortable to see her act. Even people who has worked with her before has always been singing praises about her professionalism and acting.

     I think Jesseca should really try to be in a 60’s PERIOD DRAMA where she experience lots of hardships but manages to stay strong. Lots of teary moment and probably can pair her up with actor like DYT. Anyway, think she will look GREAT wearing cheongsam like Maggie Cheung in In the Mood for Love.

     Not sure if i can mention it here but it’s one of the highest rated drama in malaysia for 2008 (I think). Anyway it’s a period drama and I think Jesseca can take up roles like Debbie Goh’s role as Rose.
