神雕侠侣激战小娘惹 Fann & Chris Vs The Little Nyonya
范文芳 Fann & 李铭顺 Chris put up a formidable fight last night at Shangri-La. It kicked Shaun & Michelle out of the top most-watched variety show’s spot of the year. Telecast LIVE on Channel 8 at 8pm, ‘芳心有李 – The Wedding’ attracted a whopping 1,035,000 viewers!
陈泓宇 Shaun & 谢韵仪 Michelle’s Wedding which was also telecast LIVE on Ch 8 in an edition of ‘综艺 Go Live’ in May attracted 893,000 viewers.
Fann & Christopher ’The Wedding’ is the current No.1 most-watched variety show (per episode as base of calculation) of the year. But these two ferocious biggies are still no fight to the tiny kitten called ‘小娘惹 The Little Nyonya’ which attracted 1,492,000 viewers for its finale episode.
Tomorrow, the newly-wed Mr & Mrs Lee will grace the trade show event and I will be reporting the event with photos and videos soon on this blog.

i’m so damned proud of chris and fann man! i already guessed that it’ll top the chart. my whole block and my opposite block, all the tvs were on ch 8 from 8 to 9pm! i’ve been staying here for years already. dat’s why, paul, i tell u, singaporean viewers are typical, traditional and their taste don’t change much. they don’ like “act fake” type. they work too hard to want to spend time watching fake stuff. singaporeans and permanent residents work all day and all they want is to enjoy a good programme – people whom they like, u get it? i know when they’ll switch their tv on. am surrounded by so many hdb blocks. from my observation, a hint for mdc to work along.i’ll provide the mdc a list of “must-haves” actors/actresses:
(1) zoe (2) xiang yun (3) li nanxing (4) fann (5) chris lee (6) thomas ong (7) jeannette (8) chen hanwei (9) ann kok (10) cynthia (11) aileen tan (12) pat mok (13) dennis chew (14) yifeng (15) dasmond koh (16) guo liang (17) eelyn kok (18) zhu houren (19) rui en (20) tay ping hui (21) jesseca. (22) darren lim (23) hong hui fang (24) chen liping (25) huang wen yong (26) brandon wong (27) kym ng. these 27 are the “must watch”. i may have missed out some but the key ones should be in this list of 27. dai yang tian is yet to be tested. can see from their wedding programme, fann and chris were very natural and humble. it’s a pleasure to watch them. most people took time off just to spend 1hr in front of tv to watch them. in fact, i enjoyed it and i wished it was longer.

The wedding is so nice. Chris, Fann, the decoration, the dress, make up, all are very beautiful. David Gan is really a kind hearted man. Patricia and the gang, Chris’s buddies and all others crew behind this wedding, all are doing their very best on that day. That’s what friends are for…..

Yesterday’s wedding was a nice one. Maybe bcos there isn’t subtitle(ya..I know it’s impossible bcos it’s live), as compared to TLN which have. So viewers who dun understand chinese may not watch it.
Btw how do you all get the figure for the number of viewers who watch a show? Just curious…haha…

yes, so many people watched chris n fann. i love the indian punjabi, a little bit of arabic flavour, looks very special. fann is very pretty, especially when she doesn’t smile. she looks very exotic. it was such an eye-opener. jacelyn was the best dressed. thought i could see phyllis quek, jeannette aw, rui en, ann kok and eelyn kok. i really love these five ladies. i mean six, including fann. suppose there’s a chance to film all six in a blockbuster, it’ll probably hit the roof in terms of viewership.

I’m sorry to be so straight-forward.
But I AM TOTALLY DISAPPOINTED IN FANN & CHRIS WEDDING.
Seriously, I feel that their wedding is very “kua zhang”. Not as in the style and class. But the promotion and advertising behind it.
I’m sorry but wtf??? People get married also got website to let other stangers and public to see their so-called happiness and love story and a message broad to tag their blessings to them? This is the first time I see celebs get married also got SMS on TV service.
This is so obvious that Mediacorp is trying to make money from their wedding.
A wedding like this also called happiness? True Love?? I seriously don’t think so.
And the way they present the wedding on TV, Fann and Chris are big stars in Singapore, but I feel that they are not natural even on their wedding day. The way they present to me is like acting. Although yes, they are truly in love and married. I mean, don’t they feel tired acting so many years, and still acting during their wedding day???
Fann is totally like showing to the public that “See! I-am-high-class-woman” “See! I am the only woman in Singapore who has such a grand wedding”
I still feel Michelle and Shawn’s wedding is much more natural and really touched my heart. And Michelle showcase their wedding dinner dishes, the three wedding costumes Michelle will be wearing. True heartfelt tears by Shawn. Creative and very heartwarming homemade chilli as wedding gifts. The way Michelle and Shawn walk down the red carpet was really nice and lovely. They waved and smiled so warmly to their guests and friends.
Seriously, I don’t know what the hell fann and chris are doing as they walk down the red carpet to the main stage. And Fann’s “indian-inspired” wedding dress totally pull me off. What’s up with the head scarf?
Remember Michelle’s first piece of wedding dress. So bling and so pretty!!
Although you said that there are more viewers watching Fann & Chris wedding. But still, Michelle and Shawn’s wedding is the best, their wedding are more real and heartfelt.
So what there are more viewers watching Fann & Chris wedding than other tv shows? That’s because the public know that is the mediacorp ah ge and ah jie’s wedding, they expect the wedding to be more exciting than any other celebs wedding.
But too bad. It’s really disappointing.

yeah the long awaited wedding … finally get married aft so long! congrats to the ratings, really such a long awaited wedding, but very sad tt mediacorp reverting back to local dramas already. was hoping for Moonlight Resonance to show, it’s like much more touching and exciting than Heart of Greed, which was already quite good. hope sg can learn from hk shows … really nt bad.

Told ya! Nyonyas pa buey toh one. The two ah-jies collaborate after 15 long years also cannot beat. But frankly speaking, the viewership’s was quite impressive already. Fann and Chris wedding was such a wonderful event. Thank you for sharing these wonderful moments with us viewers… It was almost like watching your own brother/sister getting married and the happiness was infectious.. I almost teared up when I saw Fann’s eyes went misty after the tea ceremony with her parents.. Both of them look really gorgeous, natural and totally at ease.. wish the media would stop hounding them about the sponsorships etc etc.. it’s a no win situation.. when they kept it to themselves, they were told that they were too secretive and proud, now that they have opened up to the public, some media reported it was ‘overkill’… anyway,, i am glad they shared their happiness with us, it is good to have something to cheer Singaporeans up, with all the not so good news on our economy and the various natural diasters around us..

michelle chong vs michellia chia vs michelle tay. mchong is endorsement darling. mchia is naural n comfortable with food shows, love the way she puts the food in her mouth. mtay needs lots more exposure to propel her to next level. nonetheless, mchong was bubbly during f&c wedding n acting not bad in ch5 shows. mchia delivered well in chU’s perfect cut. mtay – acted adorably in chU’s perfect cut.

Since someone mention about the sound system, I shall say it here too. Dunno why when I was watching Baby bonus today, the sound a bit weird. It randomly become softer and grow back to the original level after a while. It happened more than once. I thought something was wrong with my tv, but when I switched to other channel, it was fine.

can we have more of together? kinda worried that dyt, kola, elvin, zzh and some other newbies can’t deliver and bring down the whole show. looks like there are more newbies than established artiste. u mentioned that dyt is in every episode, so the stake is high on him. what if the feelings don’t overflow naturally, then would it be another ultimatum. nonetheless, with aileen around especially and jeannette, i’m still hopeful. then, not forgetting pretty face eelyn with her experience, should help somewhat. of course, couple hong huifang and zheng gepeng, ye shiping, linliyun and xiaofeiyu. somehow, i have this feeling the show is rather heavy on the newbies still. let’s hope the efforts of the experienced ones, esp, jeannette will create record-breaking ratings all round.

Agree with Unhappy Viewer. Yes, the whole thing seemed to be more like a show than their wedding, unlike Shaun Chen & Michelle Chia’s wedding which looked more sincere and natural. Yes, we know how much Fann & Chris love each other, but over-doing just backfires. That totally irks viewers.
Still, gotta wish them a blissful marriage.

Chris and Fann will have a blissful marriage. They are so genuine and blessed (although I did not like Chris initially). Fann looked simply gorgeous and unique on her wedding day. I am touched and feel happy for them as I watch the 3-part shows.
Many other artistes (excluding low profile Kym) would have wanted to have such a wedding, but don’t have enough value to command such sponsorship. (Didn’t Michelle Chia do a ‘cheapskate’ thing to ‘copy’ a bridal gown’s design when she couldn’t obtain sponsorship from the boutique?)
So to those who felt jealous and unhappy over Chris’ and Fann’s wedding, go ahead and indulge in your unhappiness – as if we care.

adeline, I tk you get it wrong, the wedding of Chris and Fann is not only them, it’s the hordes of Mediacorp artistes who attended the wedding that audience tuned in to watch, a real reflection of the ratings will be the prelude pt 1 and 2 which solely feature them and their preparation, which I am sure is not that high. Also SM wedding looks more like a fun affair while FW looks like she is sweating under the weight of the Bollywood dress, I kn they follow all that their Ah Bu planned for them to wear, etc, which is sweet but may not be the wedding that they really want. Just my opinion.

Look at the never ending of SMS for Fann & Chris , is enough to show how loved they are. That’s why their wedding has to be grand. And no other local celebs can ever hold such grand wedding. Why? Coz no big sponsorship.
Zoe tay can’t attract such sponsorship for her wedding. Did she have any sponsorships, to begin with? I remembered zoe’s interview with zaobao few months before her wedding & said she’s still awaiting for sponsorships when asked about any sponsorships. Eventually, I guessed only David Gan sponsored her photo-shoot at a private island in Thailand. Fill me in, if anybody know of any sponsorships that zoe had on her wedding, just in case, I made a mistake about it. Is zoe bridal gown sponsored? After she can’t get any sponsorships, she turned around & said she wanted to keep a low-profile. At the time of her wedding, her popularity was already waning & she already didn’t have high-profile endorsements.
Before Fann, there wasn’t any celebs’weddings as grand as hers. After her, let’s wait another 5 to 10 yrs & see if there will be any one.
That’s why I can understand those sour-grapes responses to their wedding as commercialised.
But Fann is always a witty woman to say this : Marriage is not a game. Everybody has their own dream wedding & these sponsors help her make her dream wedding come true. A very smart & sincere response to those sour-grapes.
Those who wanted to keep a low-profile either coz they don’t want their hubby to be exposed (eg Kym Ng, for whatever reasons only known to herself) or they have no sponsors at all or both reasons.
Honestly, pls tell me who can easily get such big sponsorships like Fann? Zoe already proven she can’t. Can Kym? Can Jacelyn?
As for the viewership, if people tuned in to watch the hordes of stars who turn up for the wedding & not coz of Fann & Chris, then pls explain why Shaun & Michelle wedding attracted 200,000 viewers lesser than the Fann-Chris wedding? And Paul already said that many people tuned in to watch the 2 episodes of the Wedding Diary, even though the Chinese papers didn’t give these 2 shows any publicity.
Frankly, I don’t think a big deal about TV rating, coz it doesn’t represent the
real thing, it’s just a rough guide for people in the TV industry.
I want to wish all married couples a blissful marriage, whether is it zoe & hubby, Fann & Chris or Shaun & Michelle or Alan & Prisicilla.
NB: Paul, just check with you, we sent in the SMS but weren’t shown on the TV screen, is it there was an overload & are the messages scanned before they appeared on the screen?

Don’t criticise Fann Wong and Chris wedding anymore. I think the last media market for Fann Wong to enter is Bollywood, so I think she wants to see if she looks pretty in the ‘Indian like’ outfit. Yes, Fann go for it, nothing is too hard for you, right. Anyway she looks pretty most of the time and not only on the day of her wedding. Even my friends and sister say Fann Wong is still one of the most beautiful artiste in MediaCorp.

What a wedding! i still prefer michelle and shaun’s wedding, more real and sincere. Look at them, they are like so fake, especially fann, please lar..so old already. And somemore don’t invite the reporters to go in to the wedding, all can only wait outside and somemore don’t provide drinks or refreshments. Even the celebrities pity them, they all knew fann and christopher for so long and always write good things about them especially fann then this is what they get.
Even pierre png ask the reporters if they were thirsty and want water.
And all thanks to that gayish ah bu, they have this “unique” wedding, which i find so unique that it disgust.

Surely, you dislike Fann, that’s why you didn’t read their news. Fann’s bridal gown was bought by Chris not sponsored, alrright. Get your facts right before you comment any further. She got big & high-end sponsors while others don’t get it, that’s the cause for all the sour comments.
If sponsorship is scorned upon, then all artistes no need to do endorsements too, since if they endorse the products, they get free products. Look at zoe, so shameful, grab all those endorsements which aren’t suitable & lost all credibility. That’s a classic example of greed.
Whereas, Fann got to design jewellery that is suitable for her wedding & she was given jewellery which has substantial price tag. Why not?

For those who criticises the wedding… Frankly the wedding was very stylishly done. Both fann and Chris looked relaxed and not stressed. They were totally enjoying the bliss and the happiness radiated from both if them. Also if u read the chinese zaobao u will read that reporters were invited and in fact Chris even checked with the reporter if her vegetarian dishes were ok. I don’t think fann was looking to compete with michelle and there is no need for people to use this forum to make comparisons either. Wishing all of them Chris/Fann, Michelle/Shaun etc a wonderful marriage.

Now afte their wedding, media already chased them for pregnancy news. See, it’s not they who broadcast, the media just probe them. So in future, if they announce the pregnancy, pls don’t blame them for broadcasting, cos it’s the media who keep asking. If they don’t tell, the media will scold them for keeping it away from them. If they talk, the sour-grapes will accuse them of broadcasting. Tell me, what should they do? Who should they please?
Mediacorp is always making use of them but never offer any protections for them when they are blasted. Quite sad.
Now SPH keeps attacking them cos they are the cash cows of their rival, Mediacorp. Sad reality.

come on u say they don’t want media attention, don’t fool yrself they enjoy to be in the limelight, if they really want to keep it a private affair they can simply reject their wedding to be broadcast on national tv.
Did u read yesterday wanbao even consummating issues also being brought up, if they don’t want all these attentions why in the first place keep appearing in newspapers and interviews. A low profile wedding will be like HK Tony Leung or even Kym Ng coming wedding, she invites only her relatives and rejected sponsors.

If you dont believe that SM’s wedding is more fun, so be it, why must drag Zoe and others into the pic? Fann’s fans are alway so childish, cannot say other idols better than their idol otherwise they will make so much noise. Accept it lah, Fann dont look so good in that Bollywood dress! and reason is simple, the choice of clothes is not hers but her Ah Boo.

Hoho-just want to refute your comments. You said Zoe’s popularity waning before her wedding so she got no sponsors, for your info her dress was sponsored by LINK boutique and she dont want to accept other sponsors except for the dress. If Zoe is not popular before her wedding, how come after her pregnancy she got so many sponsors for her baby products, you mean she suddenly become popular again ah? When Zoe accepts all the sponsorship for baby, you say she opportunist, but when Fann accepts all the sponsorship, you say she is popular, what double standards.

see your fox tail is out, zoe fans always hide behind like a coward & use other artistes to attack Fann. Zoe rejected other sponsors & just accepted the gown sponsor? Only idiots will believe you or her. A gown is so much cheaper than diamond jewellery & she turned down a big sponsorship & accepted a cheaper sponsorship? Either she was lying or she is nuts.
She already had no endorsements, that’s why she quickly get married & have babies to get some baby endorsements. Coz she will be the most popular ‘mother’, that’s the way to snag some baby endorsements, no competition. She already have no market for luxurious posh products, just
bak gua product only.
FYI, there are no such sponsorships in HK showbiz. Something that doesn’t exist, can’t be use as comparison.
As for Kym, well, you can go on the streets now & ask around, who will believe she can attract sponsorships that are as big as Fann. Is Kym hubby capable or not, nobody knows, coz nobody know who is he. The only reason Kym wants a low-key wedding is coz she’s already in her mid 40s & her hubby is still a mystery. Does he exist is still a big question mark. Also, if he exists, he is not from showbiz, she wants to protect his privacy. Unlike zoe, just for the sake of a cheap sponsorship of gowns & bridal dress, rather go public with her wedding. Why don’t you say zoe should be like Kym, only invite family, since her hubby is not from showbiz?.
All these news are created by the reporters. If the reporter didn’t call them & ask about their wedding night, do you think they will call the reporter & talk about it.? Don’t be so unreasonable & dumb in your refutes. Expect to read more news when the reporter will call & ask whether Fann is pregnant, hehe.
Fann accepts sponsorship that are suitable for her, the other artistes like Priscillia, Michelle also accepted such sponsorship as jewellery. Just that their sponsorships were not as big as Fann. She isn’t greedy as to grab whatever endorsements that come her way. All are high-end sponsorships that are suitable for her wedding.
Go & read those TNP reports, they were the ones who said Fann & Chris didn’t want to invite the media to their ROM, but the media keep asking them to let them cover their ROm news.
And they also said Chris had explained to them that they don’t want media coverage for their wedding. That’s why they didn’t invite the media, except a few who they had know for many years.
Pls lah, go & read those news carefully & stop twisting words around.
As for the wedding gown, well if you think it’s unsuitable, so be it, that’s your opinion. We can also have our opinions.
Luckily Fann accepted all these big sponsorships. I would rather sour-grapes think the wedding is commercialised than to say she isn’t popular to attract sponsorhips, hehehehe.

Congrats to Chris and Fann.
But can we please stop comparing anything and everything to The Little Nyonya? Why are we even comparing the ratings of the Chris-Fann wedding to TLN? First, no show is realistically going to beat the high-water mark of local television ratings anytime soon. Second, I don’t think it’s appropriate to compare the ratings for a one-off variety show to the finale of a scripted drama. The genres aren’t remotely similar.
Now, a valid comparison I’d very much like to see is that between the ratings of Together and The Little Nyonya. How about a post comparing the ratings for the first 5 episodes of TGT to the first 5 episodes of TLN? Both are the blockbusters of the year, both received massive promotion, both are historical/period dramas, both are airing in the 9pm slot, both are airing during the December school holidays. It’s only been a year since TLN so the TV-watching market can’t have changed that much. Of all the comparisons this blog has made of the ratings of various television shows to TLN, this comparison would be the most appropriate.
