Aunty Lucy Not Worthy of a Best Host Nomination? 安蒂露西不配入围红星‘最佳综艺主持人’？
I smell ‘jealousy’. I smell ‘fear’. Isn’t it interesting that someone who was never in the top-of-mind recall as a host for the last 10 years could divide so many MediaCorp stars, hosts and producers into 2 camps this year? All because Aunty Lucy was nominated in the Best Host category in 红星大奖Star Awards 2010? Scared or what?
One camp strongly sided 周崇庆 Dennis Chew aka Aunty Lucy that he was worthy of a nomination. The other camp retaliated that he should be disqualified as he wasn’t even a ‘proper host’ in 女王本色 Paris & Milan but just a minor role-playing sidekick.
Judging from the poll I set up, Aunty Lucy scored more than 50% of the votes as netizens’ No.1 choice of Best Host. You can’t deny him of this well-deserving chance. Aunty Lucy was not even the main hosts in Paris & Milan (莫小玲 Pat Mok & 郑荔芬 Michelle Tay) but yet he became a well-loved classic character (the last time we had such a classic was when Jack Neo played 梁婆婆 Liang Po Po and 梁细妹 Liang Xi Mei and the characters in 城人杂志 City Beat played by Bryan Wong, Kym, Sharon and Lina). Did any award-winning hosts end up with a movie deal, commercial endorsements and countless events playing the same role within such a short span of time? Did any of them create a role so memorable it would probably be remembered 10 years from now? So embarrassing…
To strip Aunty Lucy of his Best Host nomination would be the most unfair thing to do in my opinion. 锺琴 Kym Ng won the Best Host award in 1998 and 1999. 欧菁仙 Sharon Aw won 4 times from 2000-2003. Both were nominated and won for their role-playing characters in 城人杂志 City Beat. So, you want to take back their trophies?
I have no doubt that Aunty Lucy would most probably become the biggest threat to the other 4 nominees and Producers of other programmes who failed to produce an ‘Aunty Lucy’…

I do not deny that Aunty Lucy is really a classic character and is really funny, but he didn’t host the show at all! It would be more suitable for him if there was a Best Comedian Award.
I believe Dennis Chew wasn’t included under the ‘Host’ list for Paris & Milan?
Never mind whether Sharon and Kym are the main hosts in City Beat or not, but they DID host the show, not purely just doing role-playing.
It would have been better if Dennis was nominated for this category with his hosting in Buzzing Cashier 2? (it was somewhat acting-hosting too, but he was one of the hosts for this show)
(Paul: sorry, I beg to differ. Dennis was in fact hosting the various short segments in his role as Aunty Lucy…not just a character but a new way of presenting the segment)

Zhang Zhen Huan was said to be the 3rd lead role in Together drama but ended up being a supporting as he got nominated for best supporting and reason given from Paul is cos the producer wanted him to be supporting. So I guess we the audience got no say lah, up to the company to decide mah.
But if ask for our opinions, I seldom watch this show, but I didnt see Chongqing host in this show, only role playing. Sharon and Kym did host besides role playing so I think cannot associate Chongqing with the formers.
But if the company wants to nominate Chongqing as a host then we just accept lor. But I think Chongqing finally made a name for himself (Lucy) after so so many years, so I take it as a token for him.
So who and who belong to anti camp who belong to kaki camp?? why so not supportive of Chongqing?? Poor CQ.

i don’t think he is worthy of this nomination. his role to me is more of an actor doing role-playing to act the scene or being interviewed for a particular topic
perhaps best comedian will be a better nomination

constructively,
create an award for comedy character for both hosting and drama. so paris and milan and ben and kym and gurmit from city beat and brandon wong can also qualify. competition is more appropriate categorised. hosting is hosting. comic is comic. i like aunty lucy very much. accord him the appropriate title. do not do him a disfavour, dear.
dasmond koh DESERVES to be nominated. like his miss foodie and sheng shiong nite.
dasmond koh should be nominated in and li teng should be nominated out.

truly agreed. If he wins Best host very unfair but if win Best Comedian then is more convincing.
Actually is he really that popular? NO! is the character acted by him as “AUNT LUCY” is YES!

how about giving dasmond a breakthrough comedian type of role moving forward? mdc should not short change him. he’s a loyal guy with many loyal fans.
have not been seeing dawn yeoh for a while. she has the looks and smile and personality to carry herself well. she looks like fann wong. u can tell she looks the same from day one. ie no obvious plastic surgery changes. so very pleasant to watch. good clear voice too. don’t waste this talent. promote dawn like mediacorp has been pushing up eelyn kok, which is in the right direction.
moving forward, can mediacorp line up more shows for these gals as 1st, 2nd leads?
(1) jeannette (2) eelyn (3) dawn yeoh (4) aileen tan (as 1st/2nd lead, not as supporting anymore, please) (5) constance song (as 1st/2nd lead, not as supporting please) (6) xiang yun (as main not as supporting please) (7) hhf (not as supporting but as main lead)
not that i don’t like rui en, ann or cynthia but they are having 2 shows already. maybe towards end of 2010, can still try.
think out of the box, paul. put pple like aileen, constance, xiang yun and hhf as MAIN LEADS, not as supporting, i tell u, itz gonna be really refreshing for the folks, i bet u. viewership should be resurrected too.
kola, teresa, candyce toh, rebecca lim, tiffany, tracy lee, koh yah hwee and paige chua should be slowly trained and take on main supporting leads moving forward.

i totally agree to sam above. in my opinion, dasmond koh is one good host, but he is always out of the nomintation list. how sad!

I think Dennis is a very witty & humourous guy & MCS should let him host some shows, instead of just role-playing. May I suggest he hosts the new show BLACK ROSE-hosting & impersonating, he will surely do a very good job. Maybe, let Calvin Soh, Kym & Michelle Chong co-host with Dennis. Think the 4 of them will bring the house down with their comic talents. Paul, pls pls can give this feedback to the production team. Oh ya, Bryan Wong is also comical too. Mark Lee is comical but sometimes he can be quite offensive.
As for whether Aunty Lucy is considered as hosting or not, well, technically it is not hosting but acting. But at the same time, this isn’t the first time that role-playing in variety show is categorise under ‘hosting’ for SA. Maybe, from next year, then you create another category for Best Comedy Actor/Actress.

paul, then strip xxx from her 2009 best actress award lor. please argue with style. kym and sharon’s stories were years back. now with new ideas emerging, things are not cast in stone all the time. face it, mediacorp has made a GRAVE MISTAKE by giving unfairly to xxx the best actress award last year although she was only a supporting actress, stripping jeannette aw of a deserving win. so, are u going to ask her to give up her trophy and re-present in this year’s award ceremony to jeannette aw? if yes, then u can argue this way wat. do it with style lah, paul. dennis is logically not a host. in the yesteryears, we have less pool of nominees and less varieties in our variety sections. u r not being progressive by bringing back 1998 stories, paul, very unlike u. it’s not too late. carve out a comedian role-play award. free up space for dasmond koh or kym or michelle. btw, who is this li teng? he has not even created an impact and u r now nominating him as BEST? this is pretty unbelievable. please do your market check properly. many unanimous voices for dasmond, kym and michelle chia are speaking here, hor?

Probably some other too…It was painful to see his acting chops and the nomination tells viewers that even if you did not give the best as long as you are in the BLOCKBUSTER drama will at least help you move towards the Star Awards goal.

I just felt that the nominations for Best Actor (DYT & EN) and Best Actress (Eelyn) are unconvincing. What does this show, I think it made me feel that ‘BEST’ is actually not ‘BEST’. many of us watch shows for more than 20years even 30, 50 or 60, we cannot tell what is good acting what is below average or bad acting?? Sigh…

Aunty Lucy deserves to win ! dennis chew has been really a good host , i mean he is able to carry out the character of Aunty Lucy so well and being a comedian is part and parcel of a variety host.
He definitely deserves to win the award just like how jack neo, kym ng and sharon au won previously.

Of course Chongqing should be nominated for Best Host. Aunty Lucy is a host in the show, just like others. Its just another way of hosting. And i must say, in 2009, chongqing (or aunty lucy) is one of the most successful hosts. But 2009, i feel the variety not so interesting, alot of food programmes…i hope 2010 will be better, with diff types of programs.

As you said Aw just played a role not hosted a show! Really an antinomy!
Actually it ain’t easy being a show host especially a reality show.

Anyway, i’m still support to Chong Ching.I believe that Chong Ching can win the Best Host also if not of his role playing . He is the best DJ in my eyes.

Chong qing is a very gd host and I have always enjoyed listening to him in 933 and watching his shows on TV. In fact, I’m a small supporter of him.
But to qualify as a Host as Auntie Lucy is a definite no-no! There’s basically no hosting at all. Hosting incorporates live and instant reaction to unexpected situations like Buzzing Cashier. Auntie Lucy didn’t face such a situation.
Best Comedian would definitely be a much better choice…

For the previous best host award winners, I always forget who won & for what program. But for CQ, its different, he can make Aunty Lucy so likeable and left everyone a very deep impression and I think I wont ever forget Aunty Lucy for the rest of my life, like how I remember Liang Por Por. He can have such a big influence on the public, this is what the other nominated host dont have (at the moment). If I see Guo Liang on the street, I would just “dont care, just another celeb”. But if I see CQ on the street, I will definately go up to him & say “Keep it up”. I am not a CQ or aunty lucy fan, I just felt that CQ have done a really great job in bringing laughter , entertainment and happiness to Singaporeans.

YHIM has been constantly out of the top 5 list. Has MDC considered scrapping it and/or pulling it out of primetime? Can you reveal how badly it has been doing? Is it at least inside Top 6 or Top 7? I would be glad if you could answer, as there is a very annoying person on MDC forums who keeps talking about the drama’s ratings but refuses to cite sources.

it is cause now auntie lucy is very famous,so mediacorp decided to give him a host nomination. but he did nt host at all.. is very unfair. why everybody is always forget kym ng. she did quite alot of host n did quite well. y she did nt nominate and lose to auntie lucy,when he never host any of the programme. is so unfair.. i really hope mediacorp can change auntie lucy to kym ng for the host..
