公主抢摊 熟女有难? The ‘Crossover’ Princess!
Big news for people who really care about 瑞恩 Rui En! Quickly go grab the latest issue of i-Weekly (cover with Jeanette & Dai Yang Tian)! Rui En is becoming pregnant and the father of the child is a 40 years old man!
Enough of the tease since last night…hehe… It’s Rui En’s 2010 second breakthrough drama lead role! This time, she is offered a role usually given to more matured starlets like 郭淑贤 Ann Kok, 许美珍 Cynthia Koh and 林湘萍 Yvonne Lim. Ahem…should the 3 熟女 icons be very worried now that a princess is making a cross over into their 熟女 territory? Will this ‘trend’ spell the end of the reign of the 熟女stars?
Acting as a ‘simple and cutesy’ gal in the new drama ‘过好年 Happy Family’ (debuts 19 January) is already a breakthrough for Rui En. Taking on the role of a mother (already with a kid running around) and pregnant with a second child is another big thing for Rui En! Who can imagine she is married to a 40 years old man 陈汉伟 Chen Han Wei (who dies in a freak accident and turning into a ghost) and romancing another 40 plus years old man 彭耀顺 Adrian Pang (ditching the usual pairing of more handsome and younger dude like 黄俊雄 Elvin Ng)?
It is a complete change of image for Rui En and one that is hard to visualise.
No risk, no gain, Rui En is taking a bold step out of her territory and take on the territory of Ann, Cynthia and Yvonne. Will Rui En succeed? Will Rui En kiss ‘goodbye’ to any more youthful looking lead roles now that she is ‘promoted’?
2010 marks the year we are diversifying into more genres and fresh drama casting. Watch out for more surprises to come…the above drama starring Rui En, Chen Han Wei and Adrian Pang is tentatively titled as ‘I’m With You’ and will debut in May 2010.

You’re right to say that TU really disappointed enough ppl to make stay away from Channel 8. But you’ve have been targetting Felicia and Joanne using different aliases and people see through you. If you really think what you’re doing has any impact at all, is that more ppl will like them, as it is happening now (:
Focus on constructive criticism. No single star should be given the boot for this show or that show or whatever. In fact, it’s not up to you to even “say”. I would prefer you to go back to the days of praising your Eelyn Kok to the sky then making more fans hate Eelyn because of your attitude towards other stars.

Check well before you speak. Felicia is not the reason why The Ultimatum was not good. It is because of the story. You cannot blame the artistes who are trying their best to portray their character in a not-so-nice drama. After all, they did not choose their shows. The shows chose them. Felicia will be back. Mark my words! Watch her being chose by the producers next year. Jeanette will also rise to a higher level next year. So will Qi Yu Wu and Dai Yang Tian. Remember, MARK MY WORDS steve.

Why MCS don’t want to reveal the viewership rating for all dramas, and only reveal if it breaks record or if it’s consider good. The weekly ranking in I weekly doesn’t tell much. If TVB can reveal the percentage viewership for every drama(whether it’s good or bad), why MCS can’t do the same.
I understand that different TV stations have different style of working, but I feel it’s good to release the statistic as many viewers would be interested to know.
(Paul: What for? Naturally, you do very well then you shout and haolian haolian mah…then when you didn’t have a breakthrough, you don’t go around and shout lor…logic and business reason mah…you think doing business is like children playing with sand castle meh…)

In this drama, is Rui En acting as a young mum (in her 20s) who is married to a husband which is very much older than her (in his 40s)? Since both CHW and Adrian Pang are in their 40s….

And who says being a mother makes her an auntie? She can be a modern and fashionable mum isn’t it? ;D
Really interesting to see her in a motherly role, I think it will be challenging but nevertheless I’m confident that she will portray the character well.

Haha. That was me. I saw through that trick first. And all RE fans seems so worried. But there will be no problem even for RE to get 2more dramas in the second half including the lead role of blockbuster.
Look at the timing. She definitely still have the chance to film the blockbuster but must be prepared to get less than an hour of sleep everyday. Just like Jeanette. Jeanette filmed 4dramas in 2008 and so can Rui En. Jeanette has got Rhythm of Life, The shaolin warriors, the defining moment and the little nonya.
BTW, the mid-year blockbuster cast have not even been announced yet. So maybe must wait till May/June for the End Of Year blockbuster cast to be announced.

As for Felicia, she probably won’t be downgraded to 2nd lead, unless Zoe/Fann etc is casted in the same drama.
I just want to see her paired with DYT! Cos so far Felicia’s only been casted more than once as a lead couple with TPH. She has good chemistry with ZYD but I don’t think they will be paired up again..
Maybe DYT should just pair up with all the princesses..

Great to know Rui En is pairing up with Chen Hanwei. They acted as a couple years back in a show which also stars Ivy Lee. They look compatible and chemistry was good even though she was a freshie. Anyway Chen Hanwei looks younger than 40 and hope this time the ghost he play will be a handsome one.

Putting down RE, or JA, or JP (that comment by “joanne peh fan” was probably just trying to trigger displeasure between the 3 camps, definitely not what a true fan would do) isn’t going to guarantee one’s preferred artiste’s rising. Simply because there’s so many better ones, you can weaken one, two or three, but what about the tens and hundreds out there?
The only winning formula is to make yourself stronger, and not to weaken others. I believe RE can do that, that’s why there’s no need for us to put others down. We just have to make sure that when the higher-ups need to confirm if RE has enough fans, we would be there. We just have to make sure that when RE needs people to believe in her, we would be there. All fans have to do is, to believe in our own idol and be there when they need us.
I’m confident in what RE can do, but are you confident enough with your idol? If you are, good enough. Then there’s no need for this “debate” to continue. So are you confident?

It’s great to see RE taking up a new type of roles and very interesting to see her new pairing with Adrian Pang and how she handles kids from a mother point of view.
On the other hand, I fear that she will be doing motherly role for all her future dramas. Please dun let that to happen as she haven even reached 30 yet.
Two very different and challenging roles (and maybe more to come) for RE in 2010. Maybe next year is her year? haha. We shall see.

Good to see rui en in a different role. However, i was hoping she get to act in the Yr2010 blockbuster as the evil singer.
Though paul say can get a non-singer to act and use backup singer, i think the show will be alot better & more convincing if the artistes sing the songs themselves Rui En is one of the few which can act & sing well. Maybe JA & Jesseca also can lah. The pre-record songs sang by JA in 娘惹之恋 is ok lah. Anyway, there is supposed to be a upcoming singer in the show right. Maybe can get someone who can really sing for that role loh. Like Olivia Ong or Teresa Tseng. The upcoming singer can sing better so that makes the singer jealous & more evil loh.

Can we stop all the unkind words to our artistes. We keep on thinking that our artistes must do all kind of hanky-panky stuff to be able to get their wishes. Please stop using these terms because it will only affect their image and reputation.
In Singapore, we would like to maintain an upright standard if possible. When people read your unkind critics, they are simply turn off. If we are good, we ourselves should be artistes and not just shooting arrows.
Unless we see something really wrong, then we might want to throw our tantrums.

Love the cover of this week. DYT&Jeanette rocks! The content was pretty refreshing and good. Also, after reading the episode sypnosis, wonder what will happen to yao jian hong&lin xiao bei, guess they wont get to married. I remembered the ep of ”together” mentioned that he wanted to write huang jin hao character to end up in death. So Paul, will huang jin hao die afterwards?
Hahaha, then Jeanette will get more screen time. Else, really tired of the many eevlyn scenes and its as if Jeanette is juz being used as a promo tactic.

hmm… I’m a bit disappointed that it is not going to be the lawyer drama or blockbuster drama that Rui En will be chosen to act in but rather a totally unexpected role a pregnant mum. Can’t really imagine how her role is going to be like but I believe that she will be able to portray that role well. But on the other hand, I certainly believe that she is going to attract more mature and auntie-like fans when the drama is shown next year in May. This is going to increase her popularity as well and that would be a good thing.
I am curious to know which genre is this drama ‘I’m With You’ going to be? Is it a mysterious, comical, sad or scary drama (since it involves ghost)?

Since you all want her to try new role, she is trying it out now, then encourage her and not to frighten her away. Say good things to her, lah. Why want to bring Jeanette in, this show don’t have Jeanette, am I right.
Rui En, if you let fear grips you, then fear is in charge and you are not in control. The opposite of fear is courage. Courage will drive fear out of one’s life and now with courage, you are in control.
Just like a big ship charging in the sea, the ship cannot never understand fear of waves and winds, it just charged fearlessly and reached its destination. I cannot never understand the logic of it all but I learnt that if you want to reach your destination, you got to be like the ship charging across the sea and knowing that you are in control of it.
Afterall, it is only a show that you are trying to be a ‘mother’, so who’s cares, it is not for ‘real’.

Tracy Tan is not an unknown actress!! You don’t know does not mean she is unknown. Tracy Tan is from FLY. She was in the show Switched! on Channel 8 with Fann Wong as Terrence Cao’s girlfriend, Fei Fei, and on Channel 5, Calefare and Red Thread. Just to name a few shows.

I suggest you read up past articles before making such assumptions that ‘as if only rui en got acting skill & talent meh, that’s why only she can get away with her attitude & still get leading roles?’
And prior to that, delivering a production involves a lot of tedious work. From having the storyline, casting, imaging, coordination of artistes’ schedules and a lot more that’s not being explicitly spelt out to the public. How the EPs decide who will be in the cast involves numerous factors and discussions, for you to comment ‘paul are you saying those eps only believe in rui en professionally, but other artistes must listen to the eps, to strip, to kiss etc lor’, you are discriminating their (both production team and artistes) professionalism.

i don’t think rui en’s supporters (or paul) have anything against eelyn. from the comments here, no one made any comparisons between the two, or tried to attack eelyn personally.. yes they do sound a tad defensive, that’s quite natural when it is a personal attack on their idol no? it’s not very nice to sling mud at rui en, or anyone, really.

dear haiya,
i’m also eelyn’s fan. yet, i’m also rui en’s fan. i think both of them are equally good. eelyn is rising steadily from supporting roles to leading roles. in fact, so far she has already appeared in 2 block busters, from supporting to leading role. something is telling me she will be chosen to be the songstress for the next blockbuster, instead of jeannette. jeannette has too many main lead roles, so people may feel that it is “stale”. haiya, paul says “refreshing”, so surely eelyn being given the 1st lead role could well easily be one of the big surprises paul has in store for us. i can see that although eelyn has acted in many “bitchy” roles, she is not hated. so this is quite fantastic. i dun think rui en is that type of person who will suck up to people. she looks too aloof to be one. so i feel eelyn is just short of one more 1st lead (after “my buddy”) and she will definitely be one the 3 reigning ladies of mediacorp, namely, rui en, eelyn and jeannette. i think the head of drama is a smart person. he/she is fair and will not be blind to eelyn’s rising prominence.

Everyone got it own principles of life. It doesn’t matter whether Rui En do or don’t do kissing scenes. why must u compare eelyn and rui en . both different leagues. Other artistes choose to do strip , kiss roles is their problem. I think you are just jealous.
No. Rui En doesn’t have a strong backup. 1 producer already commented not using her anymore. If Rui En have a strong backup , that will be her fans who standing by her strongly and give her all supports they can.
Rui En has already show that without Kissing scenes and strip scenes , she is still doing well due to her hardwork , good acting skills and talent.
As u see without kissing scenes, strip scenes, Rui En still manage to top the vote for Best couple on tv with Elvin Ng.
Everyone got eyes to see if Rui En is really doing well anot. wondering why are u so against her.
I think it times for Rui En to get more lead roles which she seldom get.
Anyway back to topic.

poor eelyn, keep playing supporting roles, wicked women etc, then suddendly got a rejected role but need to strip & fiona said got many kissing scenes (maybe later on), poor thing lor. if she doesn’t accept this role, then next time she won’t be getting any leading roles liao, unlike rui en.
that’s the diff between having a strong back-up & without having a back-up lor. don’t tell me eelyn doesn’t have acting skill & talent like rui en hor. also don’t tell me eelyn isn’t as professional as rui en, for the eps hor. don’t tell me eelyn doesn’t work as hard as rui en hor.

Yvonne in Your Hand in Mine still act as “Xiao Jie” and dating with Shaun, Pierre. Only Nanny Daddy in recent years is acting as a mother/auntie. Metamorphosis, An Enchanted Life, A New Life all are not mother. If I didn’t rmb wrongly, she was only a mother throughout in Nanny Daddy.

does qi yuwu have any drama in 2010,anyway,i am so happy that Rui en is offered such break through roles,including jeanette aw,hope that the two princesses will succeed and paul does jeanette aw have any more dramas besides new beginnings next year,give her one or two more leading role next year,and oh ya,mr dai yang tian should be worrying,also must be jealous,coz u know jeanette aw is acting with elvin ng as lovers and also a funeral director,he must be really worried and jealous of the girl he has some feelings acting with another handsome guy like elvin ng,qi yuwu also should have been JEALOUS since june 2009 as jeanette has been acting with DYT, and now elvin ng,both qi yuwu and DYT are so poor thing,wonder who is going to win jeanette,is it qi yuwu,Dyt or elvin ng???hope its qi yuwu

Rui En got her lead roles based on pure acting skills and talent, at the same time determined to stand by her principles. I believe the most of the EPs have eyes ya? She doesn’t need to stoop low. If RE has backings, she most probably would have gotten her chances to appear in those [i]heavily-publicised productions[/i] long ago. So, what’s “fair”?

Everyone has the right to choose what they want to do, it’s if you have the courage to be responsible for your decision and accept the accompanying consequences. Rui En made her decision and she is living with the consequences. Easy for her to get leads? There are some producers who are shunning her because of this, one even said before that because of this, he/she will never use her in his/her production again.
Anyone can say no, it’s whether you dare to say no and live with what’s life after saying no. Defamatory accusations will not be tolerated.
