Upcoming Variety & Drama to Die for…
After a very successful launch of Don’t Forget The Lyrics 我要唱下去-名人版 last night with super high ratings, watch out for another upcoming big variety show ‘Love On A Plate 名厨出走记’ from 21 June. This programme is hosted by Kym Ng and every week, she runs away with a top Chef to some uulu place and the Chef has to cook up a storm for the villagers using limited ingredients.
Produced by the same team behind Buzzing Cashiers and Life Transformers, it has just about enough ‘drama’, ‘suspense’, ‘food tips’ and human stories. If you didn’t think Kym had a great variety show recently, wait till you see her in this particular one…this show was the reason why Kym was absent from Star Awards recently because of busy filming schedule…and she is in top form!
I like Pornsak in ‘Food Source 食在好源头’. It’s a very natural Pornsak without too much theatrical gigs. Porbably one of the best travel-food shows on TV. ‘Food Source’ is informative, colorful and entertaining.
For Rui En’s supporters, watch out for Rui En’s turn as host in ‘Lodge With Me 我行我宿’ exploring the icy cold Hokkaido’s Hakodate from Ep 6 onwards (after Felicia Chin).
I have also seen footages of upcoming dramas…I think Tay Ping Hui is looking great in ‘Unriddle 最火搭档’… You get a very different Chen Li Ping after her 180 episodes in ‘Your Hands In Mine’ and an ultra cool chick Rui En (I like that spine-chilling evil eyes of hers in the footages)…

Paul,I am living overseas and can’t watch the catch up tv on xinmsn when i could watch the catch-up tv from where i am earlier on.why is this so?very sad with no dramas to watch.it was not a problem when i could watch it and when mobtv was still around.

Hello, dropped by here to give some random feedback.
After watching With You, I must say that Rui En and Adrian Pang are both brilliant actors.
I never used to think much of RE and in fact was never a fan of hers, but I was completely won over by her acting halfway through the show. I can’t pin my finger on the exact reason why, but I think in her subtle, sophisticated and understated manner, she has brought alive the character of Si Qi to perfection.
Personally I feel she has reached new heights in her acting – for I never recalled her roles leaving much of an impression on me. (Didnt catch that show where she acted as some simpleton though, maybe she already had a breakthrough then) This is particularly impressive given that Si Qi is pretty much an ordinary, cliche role of a gentle, feminine character in distress.
Having scanned through the comments on the previous post on With You, I realise I’m not alone – her acting in this role HAS indeed won much praise from other viewers as well. Even my dad, who is generally quite sceptical abt Channel 8 and its stable of actors/actresses, heaped praise on her while watching bits of this show.
The “negative” feedback from the more cynical of viewers is not very critical either, but merely that her acting is “no big deal”.
So I think we can say that the general consensus is that her acting IS indeed good. After all, isnt that what acting is about – convincing viewers?
Kudos to Adrian Pang. I LOVE his role as Wen’an – it was absolutely hilarious!!!!!! Im so glad the scriptwriter didnt kill him off!!!!!!!:)

Stop bragging about things like Zoe and Fann are undisputed queens when Zoe is apparently nothing compared to Fann.
Everyone can tell that without Mediacorp’s help, Zoe is basically jobless, while Fann is still one of the biggest stars in Asia. (HK, China and Taiwan, etc think very highly of her, don’t believe me? Google it, and don’t be surprised. It’s just SG media who are too ignorant to know these.)
And now Zoe is clearly dethroned by Jeanette, and you guys still want to insist on a fake claim that Zoe is a superstar? Fann is clearly a superstar, but the barely attractive Zoe Tay is not even a twinkle twinkle little star, i.e. UNKNOWN outside tiny little Singapore.
Jeanette’s popularity has already surpassed Zoe by a huge gap, and it’s what it is. The only thing left for Zoe Tay (Local popularity) is already gone. No acting talents, super ugly look and disgusting toad voice (not to mention her severe aging problem) have already proved her worth.
Don’t mention Fann with Zoe in one sentence again. I know what you did there, but don’t expect everyone is that foolish. Fann is at a significantly higher league, and Zoe can’t even compete with CLP, XY and Rui En already. Stop being a loser, and accept the fact gracefully.

mediacorp is obviously very sharp and accurate who they will use in their dramas..they receive tons of feedback every day lah..from advertisers from public and so on and so forth, not only yours lah.. dont need to tell them how to promote who lah. so far, i think their selection of actresses like peixuan, paige, rui en, eelyn, cynthia, ann, tracy are very good..
y zoe is feeling lost? she was once a queen and she has to now rediscover her place in mediacorp..of course she has to have to re-orientate lah, so lost lah..as for jeannette, she’s definitely a class of her own..she has a face that sells..the specialist in blockbusters..mark my words…following fann she is the most “hong” now both in spore and asia..

I have confidence that Precious Babes will experience a high viewership rate when it’s on air even though none of our hottest local female stars are taking part in it. Because there’s Qi Yu Wu, this show is bound to receive a high viewership rate. Really can’t wait for With You to hurry get over and done with. A totally impractical and unrealistic show, and a bad storyline.

I definitely agree to a large extent? Why is mediacorp;s executive producers who chose lead actress made such poor judgement and choices. So many new actresses being promoted heavily. It isnt wrong but do it in a very careful and proper manner. Along the year, many actresses and actors left but mediacorp seems to not bother and take it very lightly. But isnt it a serious problem? Instead of trying to solve the problem, they take in new actresses or start to promote newcomers extensively. Chris tong? Kola? Paige? Peixuan? Tracy? julia tan? U name it and u have it.
With so many new actresses coming into the entertainment scene, wouldnt it be much tougher to excel and rise amongst the stiff competition? Whats more, mediacorp as mentioned above is really contradictory. Not much dramas from actresses once in a while. Occasionally, i dont know why, some actresses receive totally no exposure, and some suddenly receive many times more exposure. I am really baffled.
Jesseca used to be a very promising young actress but her recent lack of breakthrough roles have left her stranded and stuck. But if mediacorp were to give her a little bit, just a little bit of good roles, she would definitely have excelled. Jeanette is also another one. Out of a sudden, she doesnt have much dramas to act in. I remembered vividly before TLN, she has no lack of dramas offers in a year but why after that renowned breakthrough role, she just got cut-off. If it was only for 2009, having a blockbuster in a year is acceptable because she mentioned about taking a well-deserved break. This year, it was even much more hillarious. Surely with her capability and acting powress, shouldnt she be awarded more good roles? Instead, she received another goody-goody two shoes, sort of a boring role. But it has a fresh theme, giving the viewers sth to look forward too. But some of Jeanette’s scenes in NB is really well-done but there is just too lack of breakthrough scene for her.
All she did was console her poor little sister. console her father. talk to her brother. and date Elvin ng and the dialogues between them was really boring pulling down their otherwise awesome chemistry.
We are definitely looking forward to more supherb performances from her. But from the looks of things, she may not get any more dramas for the whole of this yr. Thats disappointing.
Why is the EPs not choosing suitable candidates? AnnK only has 1drama this year? Our two ah-jies have none? What about Eevlyn kok whom people said have a ”so-called” breakthrough role in together? Nothing much to look forward to for the second part of the year. Oh well, can concentrate better in my studies.

i sort of agree with timer.
there will no ah jie in producing i think. why? not because joanne peh, rui en or jeanette aw are not good. They are very good actresses by the way, but i believe it down to mediacorp with final decision whether to promote on what.
i read the recent June issue of Nu You, zoe tay mentioned that she does not know the company focus/direction now (a lot of her colleagues feel the way as well) and can read it in this way from Nu You that she is feeling lost. Indeed this is true, i agree on her too.
For e.g, mediacorp or the media keep on want to groom Joanne and Jeaneatte to be ah jie. But by the exposure rates and productions involved they are getting, its very difficult for them to excel. You all should Chen Sheng Zui Ji when then J.P got best actress and J.A is really popular these 2 years after TLN.
By giving J.P role in the current 7pm drama which occupying tons of her time is not very good to her CV, somemore its a supporting role and a role that does not create a hoo haa. Same as J.A, after her great success in TLN, she gt only 2 drams that far in 2009 and 2010, how can she Chen Sheng Zui Ji, moreover the roles she is getting are kinda of same pattern. This situation happens to Jessica Liu and Felicia Chin also. J.L is so popular in 2006/2007, but you all give her lesser local prodution in 2009 and 2010.
Instead, the later part of 2010, those female lead roles in future dramas are given to the less popular ones. when j.a and j.p are not involved in anything. So you allwant the audience to forget about them ? yet you all still want to promote them as ah jie? it is too contradicting. no wonder i can understand why zoe tay said she dont know the company focus.
Next, Fann Wong, the most successful star in Sg, she basically involved in nothing this 1 and a half years. Ask her to attend SA2010 to sit beside minister whole night, no variety, no dramas. Don’t tell me she wants to focus on her baby trying when she is still not pregnant yet. You all can give her a drama earlier this year, and she can still trying for her baby after a 2-3 months shoot. And for the past 1-2 years magazine interview, can sense that she is feeling sort of lost and disappointed. She dont want to have the same old role in local drama again and yet again.
i am just disappointed with the whole casting/drama unit or even the higher management that do not plan the above mentioned career path well.
Maybe Rui En is the lucky one that she can get 3 dramas these years. And she delivered her role very well. But who knows what will happen to her next year? Remember what i said about jessica liu, she might be the next victim too.
I am wondering what will be the viewerships like for those so called new lead actressess drama. Because even the april drama by Jeanette Aw, Jessica , Tay Ping Hui and Elvin did not do well. Can see from the viewership chart provided by I weekly, it even dropped to no 4 before.
My conclusion is- If you all want to promote the remaining princesses as ah jie, please give them lead roles that can Fa Hui and at least 2-3 dramas per year.
And for the 3 highly reckon ah jies including CLP , give them at least 1 good solid drama per year, and maybe some variety on fashion.
As for our Shou Nu actress like cynthia koh and ann kok, please give them 2 good roles per year be it important supporting or lead roles.because they are still pretty popular now, and they have good actingskills.
These should be MCS focus and not Dong Bu Dong Jiu promote unknown actresses or lesses well known actressess.

I manage to catch one episode of Food Source today, and I’ve to say it’s really good. Within an hour, the source of about 5 kinds of food were introduced. Pornsak is very lively and make the show quite interesting. Good job to the team!

Yeah, too many liao, with 12-14 dramas per year , 3 already taken by “newcomers” as female leads. New blood is needed for sure, but more for the male side not always dai yang tian and elvin ng, the female side too competitive already and many female artistes got no drama………
And more unrealistic is the media , kept wanting to dream and create a ah jie??? why not ah ge har? Singapore female artistes more popular and more being discussed than male artistes..haha ..In fact we really have 1 and only Li nanxing that is a real ah ge for his achievement over the years. 2 undisputed ah jie and 1 ah ge. A new ah jie will never happen, times are different now with so many actresses in the same category around. Take example the disbanded 7 princess , fans got so many choices and are spread out among them, tough competition. lol….
In the 90s our dramas are very popular in China, sold to China market generating revenues and that means having higher production budget for drama. Higher viewership
then too , in the 90s not much entertainment choices unlike now. That time is TCS and under management by Li Zhuo Yao focus on star-producing and Zoe Tay and Fann wong are really groomed by TCS then. It will never happen again…in dreams maybe..lol
