You are warned. This is strictly meant for Rui En’s fans. Some may call her MediaCorp’s ‘Ice Princess’, some reporters think she is very ‘haolian’ and still boycotting her today for not revealing her personal handphone number to them but Rui En is going to surprise everyone soon…
In the next new Channel 8 drama ’Happy Family 全家福’ , 瑞恩演林小冬 Rui En plays Lin Xiao Dong - a simple-minded 单纯 (not sure if this is very Rui En)、cheerful 乐观 (also not your typical Rui En as painted by the media)、persistent 锲而不舍 (maybe this is very Rui En) girl with super-memory 记忆力特强 (maybe this is also very Rui En?)。
When she was 4 years old, her mum left home with her after a break-up quarrel with her Dad. Her mum later died in a freak fire accident. She was adopted and grew up under the care of a stubborn and bad-tempered man played by Chen Shu Cheng. Very ‘pai-mia’ (bad life) but she did not grow up to be a negative person. 4岁时候，父母争吵，母亲带她离家出走，之后一场大火把妈妈给烧死了，顿时失去依靠。性格刚烈、脾气暴躁、不苟言笑的董建业（陈树承饰演）收养了她。
This ultra cheerful gal lives a life of happiness though she may not know a lot of things in life (know less worry less lor) 生性开朗，虽然懂得的东西不多，快乐却比别人多。从小母亲就要她背弟子规，她能将‘弟子规’背得滚瓜烂熟。Rui En works in a provision shop in Chinatown owned by Chen Shu Cheng在董建业牛车水的杂货店里帮忙。
She is that type of a gal that even though she might have fallen in love with the guy next store selling bras, she still sincerely helped him find his true love somewhere else with another gal.喜欢隔壁店铺卖胸罩的男生，男生一直只把她当妹妹看待，当他与女朋友感情出现问题，小冬非但没有落井下石，反而想办法让男生跟女朋友重修旧好…
When Chen Shu Cheng came down with a stroke one day, he disclosed to Rui En that his last wish was to take a reunion photo with his 2 sons and a daughter. Rui En makes it her ultimate aim to fulfill this last wish of his but things aren’t going to be easy for the ‘happy-go-lucky’ gal…突然中风的董建业向林小冬透露有二男一女，希望有生之年再跟孩子们拍全家福，小冬为完成董建业的心愿而。。。
I am glad to see Rui En taking on a role that is so not Rui En. A likeable role like this for Rui En may win over many new fans (even fans of other ‘Princesses’ may switch camp). But can Rui En pull it off?

to ray : yes, but iweekly reporters doesn’t seem to like her i guess. i saw that rating or something for the 7princesses. and jess was the lowest in ranking (she got only 1 star out of 5 for the first part, and 2 out of 5 stars for the second part). i totally agree with you that she deserves the promotion and the recognition. =) Jess is the best =D

it seems mdc aggressively promoting jesseca liu and she rightly deserves. concurrently 2 shows, romantic delicacies and baby bonus, both at the same time! september 2009 is the auspicious month for jessca liu!! let’s all wait in anticipation!! in fact, tonight is the night!! don’t forget, 7 pm!! the other people i love to watch in this show are wang ai lin and ix shen. for baby bonus, will be watching for tay ping hui, cynthia, xiang yun and jesseca.

It’s definitely interesting update about Rui En! Definitely no sense of hatred …haha! (cos hating ppl is tiring)
She is definitely one of the 8 princesses (plus Aunty Lucy) that can really act well. With her different challenging roles which left deep impression, she has the Ah Jie status in years to come if more roles are given to her. As her attitudes is more defined and known to the public who does not “put on a fake look.”
I’m looking forward to this drama, hope to see more updates!

I think the transformation done on Rui En was impressively done too! Hopefully she will be able to pull off this role by leaving a deep impression towards the viewers. I think that the princesses really bring out all that they have to stand out. The competition is still on and it is burning hot!

Errrr? What is wrong with going under plastic surgery? All of these started because of Desmond Koh. If he could keep his mouth shut, none of these would have started. I hate Desmond Koh so much now! He will never manage to get any Awards next year at the Star Awards I believe. Felicia Chin on the other hand will very like get the Top 10 Most Popular Female Artistes Award. To Steve, I think Callista’s prediction list is more convincing than yours. It is very true that 5 of the Princesses will make it for that Award. Errrr.. Michelle Chia when she does not have any products up to now? With that alone, she can’t be nominated for that Award. She will be like Ivy Lee and Vivian Lai. Kym Ng might make it because Vivian Lai is going to step out of the list. But people.. Eelyn Kok? x.x I’m not sure about that but maybe she might really get that Award through “Together”. I am very sure that “Together” is going to be like “The Little Nyonya” which is a nice thing. Anyway, I’m really amazed by the transformation done of Rui En and I wish her a very successful filming for this show to pull off in her role. After reading the wanbao featuring felicia on plastic surgery, the truth is in fact almost all the artistes did something to enhance their looks, one famous surgeon said that. Strangely it seems that the focus is more on the ladies, but we viewers know that actually the males including the 当红ones also did something to their faces(shaping the face to made it more chiselled, lift up & shaping the nose to made it look sharper and higher, flattening the teeth, made the lips look thinner, botox, remove wrinkles etc). The sad truth is technology has become so advanced that it is very difficult to find someone who is naturally beautiful.

For me, Rui En is one of the princess who has become more and more likeable besides Jeanette and Jessica.
They have proven to us that they’re very true, original, humble, sweet and willing to work hard.
For FC, it’s her right if she wud like to improve her looks, either thru traditional way or PS.
So many people asking her this PS question because the changes in her looks is really amazing.
By they way, she looks a bit nervous or it’s her habit, during C tea break she keeps touching her hair countless of times during Q&A.
For JP, just a bit comment to improve for the better. On the photo with JA during TLN’s dinner recently, her face looks so oily. I feel as an artist she really has to pay attention on this matter, as so many people will look at her.

you know, metamorphosis is my ultimate favorite show amongst all shows rui en had acted in. i believe, given the synopsis you’ve written out, this is gonna be yet another break through role for rui en. it’s like a totally ‘spoil image’ role from who you usually are! like seriously how many actresses wouldn’t mind that? so far, i see rui en and joanne(the 180ep show). i wish her all the best, and i hope to see her sitting at the front row next year at star awards. not just a fantasy i hope

Ruien has been bubbly when she first started acting. she was like Felicia Chin, always cheerful and friendly. i dont know what happened to her. maybe she was violated by a guy and become a bung. or maybe Mediacorp wants her to be Ice Princess to gain publicity. whatever the reason is, this isnt the first time Ruien acting as a nice girl. her initial roles on tv are all goody girl until recently, she became hostile.
anyway paul, your blog is getting boring. can you do something about it. update more? more juicy gossips? no gossips also make up some gossips?

It will definitely be a breakthrough role for her! Totally not the usual ‘Ice Queen’ character, but an optimistic and cheerful girl!
She’s totally cute even with the auntie-ish clothes, or perhaps even cuter?
The imaging really brought out that simple-minded-ness of the character.
And I’m really happy that she’ll be singing the theme and sub-theme song, I have the confidence in her acting & singing.

This is going to be an impressive role I believe. The challenge amongst the princesses is really aggressive which I am so elated to say that. But Dawn Yeoh and Fiona Xie are definitely losing the challenge. For now, Felicia Chin and Jessica Liu are going to make it into the talk of the town. Followed by Jeanette Aw and Joanne Peh as the year reaches its end like last year. After that, Rui En is going on top. This may be enough to help the 5 princesses pull through the oncoming awards. “Top 10 Most Popular Female Artistes” is going to be semi-covered by them. Followed by our unbeatable Xiang Yun. Yvonne Lim may earn herself the award this year again because of “Your Hands in Mine.” Patricia Mok definitely earned herself some fames this year through “Paris and Milan” and this might be one of her best chance to pull through the award. Also, not forgetting the strong contender, Quan Yi Fong. Hopefully, Vivian Lai might earn herself a role before the awards so that she can be nominated for the award. However again, Rui En might face some trouble to be the talk of the town because she will have to defeat the hype that both Jeanette and Joanne are going to create by the year-end. “Together” might be another product that may help to make Jeanette big. Once again, it will be an extremely competitive challenge again the double Js, Jeanette and Joanne. Voice out your comments on who will emerge as the queen! Zoe mama, do you mind stepping down?

this drama didn’t quite appeal to me earlier, even though i’m a fan of rui en. but pics of her image in the drama made me take a second look, because it’s cute – sure, but more because it’s finally not a character with a cool-cool look. back to the cute-sweet sorta characters she portrayed earlier in her career. now i’m really looking forward to the drama! it’s great that she’s going to sing both the theme and subtheme songs, that’s a hugeeee bonus for us fans. i hope my favourite babe will enjoy the filming process as much as how much i know i’ll enjoy watching this drama!

omg, thanks Paul for finally posting up something on Rui En’s new show. I really looking forward to her show as well as the songs that she will be singing for this show. Her character is so cute, so ‘auntie’ and blur blur-like.

Sir, yes Sir! I have confident in Rui En. It’s the “bring-out-the-best-of-the-character” that matter the most to me no matter if an “Ice Princess” or “Thunder Princess” to play the role. Being able to etch into the memory of audiences is consider the best already. I am not picky. By the way, I like the MJ T-Shirt. haha…
On the side note, what’s wrong with not giving phone number to reporters? Don’t they understand (read my lip) PRIVACY??

since i have been watching her drams for so many years, seriously have not seen this side of her on TV for many years. maybe since 2005 when she played sun yixin in Love@zero degrees.am sure this role wil be even more like-able. initially wasnt really looking forward to this show though she, my idol, is starring in this show. but after looking at the photos of the imaging session….woah!haha:)

she’s authentic. saw in someone’s blog her photo when she was in RJC. she looks the same. no plastic surgery, no need to hide from the truth, no need to evade questions or come up with ridiculous period and wonderbra stories. she is authentic (all the plastic actresses, especially the blatantly “different” before and after ones will basically have no more future when compared with rui en) . she sang the national day song with taufiq. she’s talented. what princess??? isn’t it an understatement? she is the “Ice Queen”!
