the focus of the show is on the customs of death and marriage so it is actually condemned b4 it airs bcos chances r people will not wan to watch it bcos of de death part. so jeanette is going to hv another flop?
well anyway i like jeanette’s acting in the last few eps of together. really good! i realli dun understand why / how people can think eelyn is better than jeanette. eelyn’s acting is, and always has been superficial. just like joanne initially, athough joanne has improved tremendously.

looks like if NEW BEGINNINGS fail to have high viewership, then jeannette can only be satisfied with being a normal actress, behind ann kok. actually, i think she has a bittergourd face. i basically feel that besides being pretty i don’t see her strengths anywhere else.
actually mediacorp really have to promote other actresses.

Yes. I totally agree lohs. Get Ann to do a variety show based on her lahs. See if the viewership still high. She was never in Zoe and Fann’s league, and now she wants to compete with the princesses? Hahaha. Sad. Super sad.

the fann and chris wedding is a more accurate indicator of their popularity. the good reception of housewives and my school daze does not equate to the likeability of ann kok. the shows consist of veterans like xiang yun, hong huifang, rayson tan, brandon wong, yao wenlong, chen hanwei, terence cao, rui en and eelyn.

Void with grace? Are u in the right mind? AnnK have dramas that have high viewership and u say she is ah-jie? So easily? I wonder if u had noticed a trend. The first half dramas are generally more well received. They are basking in the luck of TLN. You cant deny this fact.
After TLN, people have high hopes for drama. And continue tunning in just to wait and watch for dramas with similar plot. Hence, it explains the high viewership. However, after Tu, after HK show, the viewership hit a new low. Together is a very very boring drama in the first part. I wont denny it.
It focuses on many boring parts which made viewers lose thier interests. But the second part of the drama is great. The performace, the story line, the acting, the plot, etc was appealing. If u guys take the last 20episodes viewership, the results may be different. We also cant deny the fact that it would be harder to sustain the interests of viewers for a longer period of time. Family dramas have 20ep, together have 36.
Whats more, together was originally a 20ep drama. Extending it by 16more episodes is not easy.
Okay, back to the topic. Ann ah-jie? She is not even nominated into Top20 last year. Will she be nominated this yr? I dont know. Will she even win this year? We have not confirmed her popularity yet and u guys are comparing her with Fann? Ann is very popular but thats in the past…

from the beginning of last year, i already predicted ann kok will emerge a big winner in star awards. then there was the story between dyt and ann kok. horrible people say old cow eat green grass. every one encouraged dyt to drop ann kok. they say that ann kok is making use of dyt to make news for herself because dyt is up and rising. they encourage dyt to go with jeannette instead. i rebutted and say ann does not need dyt because ann was already very famous even before we have heard of jeannette or dyt. so true enough, for all the shows ann acted in, she helped the show to make it to top 10, better still top 5. we can’t argue with the results. results prove that people like to watch ann and actions speak louder than words. results don’t mince words and results are solid facts, facts that the executive producers will use to choose their leading ladies. long before, when she 1st entered mediacorp, ann was already san-jie, after zoe and fann. so now, naturally, since zoe and fann are no longer active, ann should be yijie. i have nothing against jeannette. in fact i really like her, but her fans are so void of grace. i don’t see ann’s fans rebuking others. that’s why, if i have to choose between the 2 to be the YIJIE, i will give my vote to ann kok. in fact, my school daze which also did well starred rui en, which means rui en is also a scorer. actually, i feel the ranking of an jie, ie, the choice of leading ladies in all shows should be (1) ann kok (2) rui en (3) jeannette (4) eelyn (a powerful actress, but often times victimised by fans of other actresses who think that she is a threat and not given the due publicity by the press and the reporters) (5) cynthia koh ( another powerful actress who is bubbly and a bliss to watch) (6) yvonne lim and (7) jesseca liu (her acting is not as polished as the rest but i like her persona). i have intentionally ranked them as such because i feel that the demand by the executive producers for these leading ladies to act in their shows will be as such too. i would encourage all executive producers to start fielding newbies, such as dawn yeoh, koh yah hwee, kola, jessica tan and rebecca lim as 2nd leads after the above-mentioned leading ladies. a piece of comment that is from the heart.

Congrats to HH….i think Ann Kok & Hong Huifang has made the roles alive. AK is a haolian housewive and hong huifang is a more ‘low class’ one. They deserve a nomination for best actress.
In 2009, i like Housewive Holiday, Reunion Dinner & table of glory (except for the incomplete ending), and i think they deserve the top 3 highest viewership of >1 million. I catch these 3 shows for almost all episodes. Though the 3 productions are not blockbusters, but i think the prodution team has done a gd job. Actually i am quite proud for TOG as the main leads are newcomers at that time.
For Together, i think the viwership for first 2 epi was high …i think the marketing team did a good job. Unfortunately, the pace is slow so i think viewers lose interest. Otherwise, i thought overall the show is not bad. err…At least better than TU…hee.

This is really Ann Kok’s breakthru drama! She did so well here and was simply hilarious, so HAO LIAN! Really impressive!
Hong Huifang and Xiang Yun as usual maintained their standards! HHF was also uber funny I swear esp her “cheapskate actions”. Thumbs up!
I really hope Ann gets a nomination for Best Actress and wins the Top 10! She deserves it!

i like Housewives’ Holiday. the 3 ladies are extremely entertaining and comfortable to look at. they’re good actresses and it has a good storyplot.
Together is a little boring at first. i didnt catch many of the first few episodes because the writer cant write a good story at all. i dont know who’s the scriptwriter, but this story is really dying at first. or maybe the director cant film a show. or the sound effects is boring. nothing interesting. even when Jeanette becomes a hostess, her character is still plain jane. nothing happening. the raping scene was boring. the fire scene was boring. the boxing scene was boring. everything was really boring. even when DYT stripped for the NS, it was boring.
only towards the last 7 episodes then i started catching.
unlike TLN, i started catching since the first episode because it’s really good.
for HH, i didnt really catch it because it seems to be just another drama but when i started watching, i cant stop. it makes me feel happy to watch the show.

I think many people don’t watch local dramas nowsaday,even aunties switch to watch korean or Taiwan dramas,teenagers not interested too and also now the market is different from last time,people using internet can watch whatever programmes they like,a lot of families have cable vision,so unless you got a good script,very very sure it will attract attention like The Little Nyonya if not, channel 8 local dramas sure can’t get very high viewership.当我们同在一起don’t get what it expected but still not very bad but想握你的手 really really is a disappointment,I think channel 8 should shorten it or change it to other session if not viewership will become less and less.I don’t think Ann Kok is a 一姐,Zoe Tay 才是一姐forever,people said Zoe Tay is old but look at Ann Kok she look old too since she joined mediacorp again,I think if last-time she became popular in Hong Kong she won’t come back to Singapore.In terms of popularity,Fann Wong and Jeanette Aw win her a lot,people in China had recognised them as 新传媒当家花旦, these two they both shine and have strong fans supporting them in Singapore,so if Ann Kok is a 一姐,then 黄碧仁，李锦梅 should be call 一姐 long ago.

No way. In terms of viewership, Jeanette always has TheLittleNyonya. In terms of endorsements, Jeanette has about the same earnings as FannW. In terms of age, Jeanette is 7years younger than Ann. In terms of popularity, Jeanette has 5top10 awards and 4most favorite character in 2008. In terms of acting, Jeanette received a Best Performance By An Actress Nomination. In terms of onscreen chemistry, Jeanette has DYT, ELVIN, 715, ETC.

You should never link viewership to a star, cos it’s a double edge sword.
Let me give you an example:
Results have shown that Eelyn’s lead role in the donno-what drama performed the worst this year in viewership for local dramas. Oh no! Does that mean Eelyn is really CMI and should really improve on her acting and quit showbiz???? Her looks make people feel like slapping her and her eyes aren’t of the same size! She is downright lousy in acting and looks like a complete mess!
ONE BIG KARATE CHOP TO YOUR IDOL, EELYN since you’ve been making up stories to smear the reputations of the stars that are of threat to her!
Now I HAVE the LAST LAUGH because Baby Bonus (Fel’s definitely in Best Actress nomination list btw) improved HOG’s viewership by close to 50% (fromm 600k to 900k) while the donno-what drama by Eelyn did even worse than TU! Oh no el, how???
You want to pray for Eelyn or help her get a new job cos she might just need it hor??

My honest opinion on Eelyn in Together:
I really loved the way she portrayed her character when she isn’t throwing a fit or telling Jianhong about DYT seeing her in her bra.
Professionally, I felt that she might have well strayed quite far from the Story-writer’s initial idea for “Jinhao”. I was quite surprised Jinhao turned out so different from what I expected. While the character is comical, it can be easily portrayed by most artistes to even greater effect and hence she doesn’t stand out that way.
Erm. Another thing is that, Eelyn was superficial in her portrayal of “Jinhao” as compared to the depth and intense inner struggles Jean was able to bring across despite appearing abit “stiff”.
“Jinhao” was a really good role.. But.. I felt that Eelyn might have used the wrong way to tackle and portray the character. If Eelyn was nominated and Jean was not, I will see it as an insult to Jeanette. That’s what I feel.
But Eelyn as a artiste does not irk me or what.. I’m fine with her because she can act normally but she’s still quite average and IDK, just lacks something. Star power maybe.

paul … TLN was really a one-off exception and mdc should not take it as a precedence. at the end of the day, judges must still assess whether the role is a demanding one or just a normal challenging one; and not be blinded by the fact that the drama is the top viewership drama means the leading artistes must win the BA; where is the equation? sorry paul; can’t accept your comment this time.

paul … the low viewership of together could be attributed to the wrong focus in the beginning episodes; instead of more airtime for ja and dyt; it focused on ek! or could it be due to the airing in mobtv like some viewers mentioned to you before the airing of together cos ppl would have already watched the show in mobtv. i think this does have an impact; don’t you think so paul?

pls lah; it’s not all AK’s work that got the dramas to the top; it’s the leading cast, i personally feel that hui fang’s role was more challenging and humourous than AK’s. hers was just a normal motherly role; hence, the success is not attributed to just AK’s effort!! MDC is trying to boost AK this time and that’s why they have given her numerous roles in 2009. don’t forget she did mention that she didn’t have endorsements like her peers; ivy lee, etc. so she has to focus on her work and cannot afford to sit on her laurels .. haha

oh btw, one and all, if housewives hols is the big time winner. then it is time BRANDON WONG gets his best actor award nomination too. without him, the show would not have been so hilarious. i still remember him holding the pooty to this buttock when he supposedly went for his piles operation in JB…brandon – congrats!!

Paul did say that after considering all the viewership, Together is still far from HH.. Don’t be disappointed cos nobody is going to blame it on the stars. It’s just viewers preferences and maybe some tweaking of the storyline is needed that’s all. (:
I felt that Love Blossoms was quite a good story, especially part II. Although I’m still quite surprised a 7pm show could do this well. As for TU, it was consistently in the high 800k viewership and the finales episodes brought it over 900k in average. (:
Together suffered after the first few episodes.. If you did follow Paul’s blog, he reported close to 1mil in viewership for the first two episodes but the average for 24 epis was 900k. It must have fell quite abit.. I personally stopped watching at epi 23, and watched the final two episodes.

HH created a bang. Not very big, but praises were heaped on the performances in the drama. It’s quite rare for the public to like a drama so much cos there is always two ends to a stick. I actually thought that it was established early in the year that HH will probably end up to be in the top 3 in viewership. With TU and Tog below expectations, it’s not exactly shocking that it has gotten first. (:

I am so disappointed. ”Together” is such a great drama, touching, exciting and so on. And yet another typical family drama came out tops? I think it will be fair if u included the remaining 12episodes of together.

in future mediacorp should not have a drama that spills over the following year cos it is not doing justice to the drama as mdc is taking those episodes upto end december to compete with the other dramas that have the whole complete episodes for the highest viewership. where is the logic? you are not comparing apple to apple.

hi paul .. doesn’t mean that housewives holidays is top; means ak,xy,hf, will definitely be nominated for BA; nor does it mean that one of them will win the BA? judges will still need to evaluate the challenges of each role and the execution by each artiste. being top viewership has no direct correlation with acting skills. attracted viewers cos all the aunties and uncles love such drama as they can relate; altho storyline is very simple; nothing to shout about for that matter.

Glad that Housewives holiday is top…For Together…Did it include the episodes shown in January 2010 meaning episodes not included on/before Dec 31st 2009?…
If those january episodes did not include in the ranking, can you just include it by yourself and calculate the ranking and post it (if possible)?….Please don;t say no…Just do it for us….since together was shown in Nov 2009…Please….We want to know if INCLUDED will it together conquer or will Housewives holiday still come out on top….
We want to see Together’s ALL episodes included in the rankings for CURIOSITY…

Not unexpected cos, Housewives’ Holiday was surprisingly refreshing and cool, esp when viewers are simply WOW WOW WOW by it all (coupled with minimal publicity)…when the publicity is up, viewers have higher expectations ….
I am sure TOGETHER din perform that badly lar …
I tod Home & Decor 4 or even the Xin Qin Zhong Dong Yuan 2 can be the best variety …could be timing as they miss the qualifying period.

Saw the Top 10 lists.
Quite surprised that Ultimatum(Flop) and Love Blossoms(7pm timeslot) beat Together, even if it’s the first 24 epis :/ But overall, Together would be higher since the last epi attracted over a million eyeballs (:
Anyway, I saw the list and have an observation, could you just verify? (:
Is it possible that TLN was so awesome that it pulled up viewership for the subsequent dramas until Ultimatum came and then HOG had to make things worse?
Cos i’m quite sure that My School Daze, Table of Glory and Dream-Catchers are lesser productions compared to BB, DAH and Tog but the latter dramas suffered in the ratings. Reunion Dinner – My School Daze higher viewership could be a post-TLN aftermath right?
