‘我在你左右’收视飚升 ‘With You’ all the way Up!
These few nights alone, the 9pm drama ‘With You 我在你左右’ registered huge jump in the number of viewers (as high as 1,082 000 viewers!) making it the most-watched drama to date in 2010! What do you like most about this drama?
Chen Han Wei 陈汉玮 demonstrated how he could still emote so well without even moving much. This 4-time Best Actor knows how to impress in the craft. Naysayers might have attributed his past winning scores to exaggerated imaging. He has proven them wrong with yet another oustanding performance doing the opposite here.
She was that silly gal in ‘Happy Family 过好年’ jut a few months ago. She jumped out of that role and became the sorrowful widow in ‘With You’. My colleague said she cried whenever she saw Rui En 瑞恩 crying in the drama. That itself is a compliment as she is someone quite familiar with Rui En as a star, yet she could actually feel pain for the character played by Rui En!
Adrian Pang 彭耀顺 has a lot of 观众缘, he is very watchable in every scene. Like Chen Han Wei, he is one of those rare artistes who know exactly how to expand the scope of a role. Put the two together and you get hooked to the television.
Brandon Wong 黄烔耀 and May Phua 潘竖卿 also put up subtle yet outstanding performances. Brandon once told me how he would play the role well – by being naturally understated without overpowering others in the same scene with him. It is easy for any seasoned artiste to ‘steal’ a scene yet he opted for being subtle. By giving the limelight to others, Brandon comes alive as the character! The same also happened to a very different May Phua. She is no longer loud and hard, and you could somehow feel her softness and sensitivity as she played her role.
This is one drama where the artistes are truly at the best of their crafts. Jacelyn Tay 郑秀珍 said in her press interview that it was pure enjoyment watching Chen Han Wei in any drama. Multiply that compliment for the rest of the stars in ‘With You’ and it is no miracle why so many viewers have fallen in love with the drama…

Chan Han Wei and Adrian Pang’s acting in this series really touches one’s heart, i enjoy every bit of their acting in this series. I hope they can act together again in mediacorp series soon. I miss this show even though it has ended, the show still linger in my mind.

最近周日九点档剧集《我在你左右》小家碧玉悄悄地登场，却达到了粗茶淡饭延年益寿靠的功效，让收视在毫无预警下开出红盘，给被忽视许久的老臣子打了一支强心针。
《我》凭借的正是剧中人一气呵成的精湛演出；一个眼神交换，一个再自然不过的神情，二话不多说就能轻而易举地将观众带入张家亲身体验一番。即使没有太多宣传，更一度在没有任何预告片的催化下，依旧有忠实观众守候在电视旁，让收视创佳绩。
回首每幕，资深演员果是不可多得的瑰宝王牌，让人揪心於陈树承大哥含泪不宣的丧子之痛，在彭耀顺的鬼马神情中破涕为笑。楚楚可怜的寡妇本就惹人怜惜，但搭配上天生反骨的瑞恩倒让看似柔弱的角色多了份低调的傲气与逆境求存的顽强生命力，同情之餘更令人敬佩。
《我》绝对是2010年中难得的佳作，眾演员的精彩詮是有目共睹的，以真材实料的演技赢得观众的满堂喝彩。如此傲人的成绩让人开始盼望新传媒能早日爲这部剧发行Dvd，好让大家也能收藏此剧！

The show was great!!!!!!!!!! A pity Wen An didn’t end up with Siqi but I wouldn’t complain, not when the scriptwriters wrote a best possible ending. Kudos to the acting of Adrian, Rui En and Chen Shu Cheng! Fantastic! :/

I have a question. Why is it that Nat’s acting was so much better after being possessed? He didn’t just tone down, he acted so much better as though Chen Han Wei really possessed him! Why and how did he do that? :/

I find this show very meaningful. Makes us mindful of how we live. It’s important to treasure our lives and loved ones as it can all end suddenly. Also evey small careless action we do can have big impact on the lives of others indirectly eg Zhang Huan’s reckless throwing of a can had indirectly caused his borther’s death.
Zhang Yang is really a good ghost. I like Chen hanwei’s interpretation of the character. Of course the rest of cast did very well too, making the whole show all woven together nicely.
By the way is the story original or copy from somewhere. Even if it’s copied it is very nicely done.

I’ve MobTV as well and I’ve finished watching the entire show last night. I respect your opinion of this show but I just like to say that my opinion really differs a lot from yours… I thought this show has a very nice storyline and contrary to what you said, I don’t think I felt “shocked” when I reached episode 15. Also, I was happy with the ending as well (which is not something I’ve experienced in a long time, not even for Together – that ending was way too happy). In short, I really enjoyed this show a lot more than New Beginnings.

really ah; from an ice-cold lady to praises by straits times; why suddenly they are become so nice to her. oh i forgot, the ones that are nasty towards her are the Chinese papers; same ones that always criticise JA.
happy for her since RE and JA are both from the same company and she is slowly becoming popular although not as popular as JA yet.
both RE and JA should try channel 5 for an English drama since both are english educated. that will be something!!

would like to compliment adrian pang, chen hanwei, chen shuchen, jiong yao, rui en & shu qin for their gd acting. Needless to say, they have many scenes with natural acting skills. For instance, shu qing is supposed to act as a greedy daughter-in-law. But, the feel she gave is not 100% bad, still ve a somewhat humane side to her acting. Nat Ho is also not bad!
the role “jieying”‘s acting needs further improvement, bt fr ep 11 onwards, seems better. also, the one acting as long po (wen an’s great aunt, can she stop shouting whenever she acts such similar roles (very lousy acting)? if possible, pls stop her from participating in any drama in the future.

这两年瑞恩的确进步很多，不过要说演技精湛无懈可击，那是夸张和膨胀了些

说实话，她在这部戏的表现固然是好，但并不算突出，角色发挥空间有限
除了刚开始那3-4集以外，很多场戏其实都是很简单的戏，平实的演技而已

Hi there~ Oh u know, it was only recently, i jus realised that why there wasn’t any trailers for WY cause it’s a ghost show! haha seriously, i watched WY till i forgot that it’s actually supposed to be a supernatural drama and thought that mediacorp was just reshuffling the programs. but YHIM’s trailers were still on-going and i suddenly realised ahh…
Kudos to mdc for being so considerate! WY is really a brilliant show, it can seriously make one to be so engrossed and used to CHW appearing as a ghost that looked to human that you actually forgot that he is actually a real ghost in the drama~
anw, the storyline is getting just a l’ll bit draggy.. but there are still so much suspense and the presence of less storm indicates that there are more tragedies to come.
And whether isit NB or WY, both are really awesome dramas and are unique in their own way, so it’s pointless comparing. Just enjoy both dramas is good enough

sorry but i beg to differ. i think that the acting of the main casts of new beginnings is good, not lousy. there at 4 main leads. tay ping hui, jeanette aw, elvin ng, and jesseca liu. tell me, which isn’t good?
there is tay ping hui who has been in this acting industry for years. i know that your will keep harping on the fact that he hasn’t won a single best actor award yet while chen han wei easily bagged 4. but you know what? being nominated every year is not an easy feet at all. what’s more, his roles are not ‘loud’ like chen han wei. chen han wei has been getting all the ‘loud’ roles. therefore he keeps winning and winning at the awards. i hope your can look at things in a big picture and see that tay ping hui is really an good actor. his roles over these years have not been ‘loud’. there were ‘soft’ roles. so please, i think this actor deserves much more credit than this.
then there are two of our very humble ‘princesses’ jeanette aw and jesseca liu. i know both hasn’t won a single best actress award yet while joanne peh who is also a ‘princess’ herself has already won one. but i think we should not forget the fact that they have been nominated for the actress award before. again, i stress that being nominated is not an easy feet at all. because being nominated is already a sort of confirmation. rui en, fiona xie, and dawn yeoh hasn’t been nominated for the best actress award before. please don’t tell me that they have not been the lead actresses in any shows before. probably fiona xie hasn’t but rui en and dawn yeoh certainly has. so, you see.. being nominated isn’t easy at all. what’s more, both have not been acting as ‘loud’ characters in the shows before. both only tried on ‘soft’ ones.
and finally, there is this suave-looking young man, elvin ng. i know that his acting is still only of a mediocre standard. but he has recently just won the rocket award. surely he deserves more credit than this??
i hope you comment by looking at things at a big picture.

I think you are pure biasedness. With You got better casting where most are veterans with many years experience of acting. NB are more of new artistes and 新生代 artistes.
You can credit your idol for NB but don’t discredit With You cast even if you think WY is not good. I think it’s not fair.
If you think NB good, then that your opinion lo. We can still think that WY is better. Just a different point of view.
If you want to complain about viewership, then back then you should have watched NB on tv to support and not here complaining.
Both NB and WY is good. NB just got lost on track at the back part of the show. WY , it’s only 9 Episodes. That more to see. Don’t comment that you think NB is better than WY when you haven even watch WY finished. It’s biasedness.

New Beginnings’ viewership is just as good as With You’s if you do not know. You might want to check with our brother Paul over here about New Beginning’s viewership. I am not crediting my idol in New Beginnings neither am I discrediting the artistes in With You. Do you get that? I am just raising my opinion on With You. And for you information, mobtv has already aired the whole series of With You and I seriously think that the whole story line is really bad. If you feel that New Beginnings got lost on track at the back part of the show, then sit back of your television set and get ready for a shock when With You reaches Episode 15. Because it’s worse than New Beginnings. Most importantly, I’m not trying to be bias over here but I’m just trying to tell your about my opinion. 瑞恩就幸运太多了，关注少些，反而可以沉淀自己，

其实仔细观察并不如此，瑞恩很有个性，她的学生粉丝是最多，而且很团结
瑞恩粉丝懂得随机应变，是最多和最聪明的fans

我也并不是太熟悉瑞恩，不过我很欣赏她的性格
瑞恩是以歌手出道，当年她在台湾发专辑时，我还在台湾支持过她
后来发展不顺，没能打进台湾市场，之后才转向电视圈发展
刚开始，也是很多批评，演技个性什么都有。。。。
这两年瑞恩的确进步很多，不过要说演技精湛无懈可击，那是夸张和膨胀了些
我近期也看到瑞恩的进步，我这几天还在看07年的《破茧而出〉〉
那时她的演技拿捏的没有那么到位，有些情绪太满，表情特意和夸张了些
值得一提，她在那部戏的打斗还真让人印象深刻，她在那部戏的形象是很受年轻人欢迎的
我记得林湘萍凭《破茧而出〉〉入围最佳女主角和获奖，的确她在那部戏演技精湛
现在播映的《我在你左右》，我每集都有看，印象最深刻的是瑞恩在车里的那场哭戏
她的哭戏进步很多，情绪很投入有感染力。
说实话，她在这部戏的表现固然是好，但并不算突出，角色发挥空间有限
除了刚开始那3-4集以外，很多场戏其实都是很简单的戏，平实的演技而已
瑞恩的演技还是有进步的空间的，这是好事，还没有遇到瓶颈
这部戏扛戏和主线是在彭耀顺和陈汉伟，很多粉丝活跃blog，夸大和猛赞瑞恩能理解
学生群是这个blog最活跃的族群，网上的评语和想法不一定也不能代表整个大环境
记得年头《过好年》也是这种情况，粉丝居多，而且很团结猛赞偶像，赞个不停
《红白》的言论可不是这种情况哦
看到博主透露《红白》得收视率是当时“今年以来最好的”
也就是说《红白》的收视率比年头播放被猛赞的《过好年》好
而目前《我》的收视率比《红白》好， 之应该会被被下半年的剧集超越
成熟的明眼人不会被这个博客和网上的文字影响和牵着走, 不当真
粉丝在那里瞎起哄。。嘿嘿。。一场游戏而已

Yesterday’s episode there was a scene near the end between Chen Shu Cheng and Nat Ho which was done very well. I really like the ‘chemistry between Adrian Pang and Chen Hanwei. Alot of scenes by Adrian and Han wei often create alot of laughters and comic relief. It’s very relax and nice to watch this drama as the script is quite well written and the acting by several artiste is very natural and moving. ^^ Even Nat Ho has improved, haha.

It’s actually quite funny, these people kept comparing NB and WY. And those who support WY are crediting your idol too. I really don’t see new beginning having a better cast?? In fact I felt both drama have good cast, CHW is a forth time winner of SA and AP is well-liked by the audience and also female lead rui en is suitable for her role too for WY.
I have to say that for NB, the script don’t really make it, beginning the first few episode was good, then it went sort of haywire, storyline very “rojak” lol. I see in too many episode that the supporting roles having more screen time than the lead ??? The focus were not on the lead and honestly I and many out there lost interest in the drama. One particular “supporting actress” is from channel 5 and really very weird acting and unfamiliar face. Her acting cannot make it.
For WY, the leads are really the leads in the drama, better script clear storyline. The focus is always on AP and CHW and for female rui en. They are really the ones that carried the drama the way it should be!!
Anyway, WY storyline is becoming a bit dragging and might lose some viewers as time goes on. No matter how good a cast is , they have to be given screen time and a good script, a lot of factors are involved. And I am the many out there that prefer WY.

就如《我》剧里的周文安所说的“不只是不是前世欠你的”；也许欧萱前世欠了那位记者些什么吧，所以今世就厚着脸皮死咬着欧萱不放！老爱针对她！咳. . . . . . 我说就算今世讨回了公道又怎样，来世就能得到一世的安逸吗？
同属一家公司的欧萱与瑞（芮）恩， 这两个人都不靠媒体为自己宣传，不过欧萱就没那么幸运了！就目前两人在戏剧方面发展形式来看；欧萱已是连续两年就一年一出剧集，为什么呢？最主要的应该是受亮丽讨好的玉女形像所局限了，再加上在《小娘惹》及《当》剧中的三个角色非常讨好且深入民心，突然要在新剧种的新剧里硬把她给塞进去，演个她从不曾演译过的角色，一时之间是很难让喜爱她的观众接受的，除非有特别为她量身定做的剧集，不然机会渺茫！同时别忘了还有那些“前世鬼”也会来讨债！批评她演技的观众也不错过机会，总会在鸡蛋里挑骨头做出炮轰！若真要起用她当女主角还得仔细斟酌一番，这也许就是一年就一出戏的主因吧？
反观瑞恩就不同了，她也许比较幸运，在一出道时就获好评，虽也曾经尝试往歌坛发展，但并不怎么顺利，重回电视圈发展凭着自然精湛的演技，不靠任何媒体宣传，也从不搞什么新闻或绯闻之类的替自己宣传博出位，照样也掳获广大观众的喜爱，而且不受外形所局限，什么角色都能去尝试，渐渐的成为一位全方位的女艺人，机会因此接踵而来，这点最让我欣赏了！就算是不喜欢她的观众也很难找到任何机会批评她的演技，因为是无懈可击！实在是太棒了！有按时收看《我》剧就知道了，毋须再提！
同样的在此要祝福瑞恩；继续加油，明年绝对有资格角逐最佳奖项！以往都忽略了你，往后将更加观注你的“星”动向。

I think you are pure biasedness. With You got better casting where most are veterans with many years experience of acting. NB are more of new artistes and 新生代 artistes.
You can credit your idol for NB but don’t discredit With You cast even if you think WY is not good. I think it’s not fair.
If you think NB good, then that your opinion lo. We can still think that WY is better. Just a different point of view.
If you want to complain about viewership, then back then you should have watched NB on tv to support and not here complaining.
Both NB and WY is good. NB just got lost on track at the back part of the show. WY , it’s only 9 Episodes. That more to see. Don’t comment that you think NB is better than WY when you haven even watch WY finished. It’s biasedness.

Scientifically & logically the story of this show has no credibility. How could a ghost be trapped in a phone and why should the ghost be only be lnked to AP’s character? BUT, the actors and actresses made it so credible and attractive to watch! Their interaction is so good that it seems real. The director is also able to edit the scenes in such a way that the audience would want to know what is happening to the characters. The only weak actor is Nat Ho. Fortunately the rest of cast even his girl friend cover his shortcomings.
This shows that even with weak story, good acting from the cast would “brighten” up the drama. I guess this is happening to those draggy Taiwanese drama now enjoying high viewership. The story can be absurd but the actors and actresses make the show watchable.
Hope that our local artistes will brush up their acting and enrich the role they act. Don’t just blame the script and director.
“New Begginnings” could have been better but the show was spoilt by lacklustre performance from the lead cast.

把收视率不理想责任全推给戏份根本不重的她身上让她扛。。。真有意思呀

I like With You this drama,It’s the best drama 2010 that i saw…
Rui En and Adrian Pang acting was excellent…Actually, I wasn’t see many Mediacorp drama this few years,because the drama quality was dropped…
But since last year,Housewives’ Holidays…Ann Kok performance was super great,so pity she cant get the best actress on Star Awards…I like her all drama include My School Daze,Daddy At Home and Happy Family…But i still felt that,Mediacorp didnt have give Ann Kok any big breakthrough and a nice roles…I’am quite dissapoint about that…
I’am not her fan,but since i was young,my whole family all like her perform…I don’t know she’ll get any drama after…but i hope Mediacorp can cherish her talents,create a great and nice role for her…

to sasha … you are uttering rubbish that “New Begginnings” could have been better but the show was spoilt by lacklustre performance from the lead cast. i think NB is 10 times better than With You; at least NB has its originality; it something new unlike With You which borrowed some of the storyline from the ghost story with Demi Moore as the lead actress.

I love ‘”With You” drama! Find myself tuning in every weekday.
I love watching Adrian Pang. He’s very comical! His actions, expressions, esp e way he speaks is v comical!
I also like Chen Shu Cheng. He portrays e role of a compassionate father and grandpa v well.
I like Rui En’s acting too. Can literally feel the pain and sadness for her .
I like and admire Brandon too for his subtle yet important role in the drama.
I like e opening song of the drama too!

RE’s crying scenes are just normal; not a “WOW” to me.
sorry; off topic. saw the ELLE magazine with a caucasian model wearing the purple nightgown worn by JA at the Star Awards; to my surprise, I think it looks so much better on JA. there was also another Alldressup toga dress worn by JA when she was in HKG for the tln promo; again to my surprise, JA looks better on the dress than it is on a caucasian model. Thumbs up to JA for being able to carry these outfits so well with her pretty face and sweet smile!
hope to see JA in another drama this year!!

With You is really a nice show. I am really glad that this show have high viewership,and my whole family enjoy this show a lot. Thumps up for all the actors in the show especially Rui En. Her weeping scenes were great,she bring out the sadness and emotions in a very natural way. Hope there is DVD for this show…:)

Overall, I think this is a great drama. Most of the casts can bring out the show well. I guess that’s the reason why it attracted so many viewers. The emotions that were being let out from Rui En was so real that it touched my heart deeply. While the show is depressing, Adrian managed to lighten the depressing atmosphere by adding in elements of jokes, laughter, which sort of balances it out.
A drama that deserves attention. A drama that is so heart-felt. A drama that all the cast are at their best. A drama which deserves such high ratings.
Hope the ratings continue to soar. And hopefully Rui En will have a share in next year BA

Congrats to “with you” casts and crew. I am pretty surprised by the ratings. I admit I like to watch Adrian act as he is very hilarious. Can see his sincerity in playing the character well. Look at chw, the role is nothing proud or hard to play. Newbie can play this role. The plot is plain..more family-oriented. To Never Back Down: You are hilarious! And I mean it. Your comment sounded so juvenile to me it made you look like a clown(in my eyes). Scenes involving AP and CHW never fails to bring you laughter.. Since when did CHW’s role in this show made people laugh? Are you like.. kidding me? It is just AP who made people laugh. Rui en’s ‘yan shen’ had the right feel for every single scenes.. Again, are you like.. kidding me? You mean even when she speaks casually her ‘yan shen’ has the right feel? No! When she speaks casually, she just speaks casually. If speaking casually talks about having the right feel, then I would say Jeanette Aw and Jesseca Liu are gonna’ win the Best Actress Award next year at the Awards. Because both had the ‘right feel’ in their every single scene in New Beginnings. All in all, you sounded really hilarious to me. Good ‘shou shi lu’? We will see in time to come, how will it be when the story moves further. Because from what I saw in mobtv, this show is one of the worst show up-to-date this year. Very very weak storyline as the show progresses. Even The Best Things in Life was nicer than this show. Towards the explanation of the high ‘shou shi lu’, I would say it was just pure coincidental that the audiences were too bored then switched on their tv. Really! I really like Rui En’s acting in this show. Truth be told, all of her emotional scenes did remind me of how I lost my grandmother a couple of years back. Rui En captured the emotions well. Nothing too much, subtle yet real.
It’s nice seeing her so feminine as well. Breakthrough, I say.
Having said that, I for one sincerely hope that she gets nominated for Best Actress. Thank you for allowing me to live through the feelings that I once grappled on the lost of my grandmother again.

It is good to hear that this show has garnered such a high viewership. AP’s comical scenes was good. He managed to balance the character well, sympathetic towards ZY’s family, yet comical. As for CHW, he put up a great performance as usual…I am particularly impressed with RE’s performance, especially her crying scenes on the first few episodes. As for this week’s episodes, her 眼神 was great! Those unspeakable pain that she was going through was well portrayed. I am also impressed with CSC as a dad-in-law, especially when he was comforting his daughter-in-law. As for the Wei Wei(I have no idea what is her real name), I don’t expect much from her as her character is a rather demanding one and I haven’t see her in any other shows before this. Will be looking forward to watch the upcoming eps next week!

“我”剧至目前为止是今年的收视之冠！这绝对是不容质疑的！自从看了第一集之后就已欲罢不能，马上被剧情给吸引住了，追着看这剧集！坦白说已经好久不曾有这么好的作品出现了，这“我”剧的出现来得正是时候，希望此剧能起作用，重拾观众对八频道华文戏剧的信心，继续支持华文戏剧的发展。
在这剧中的各个主要演员都表现非常好；撇开四届视帝陈汉伟的表现不说，其他演员如男主角彭耀顺就演得非常传神，演技真的是太棒了！非常享受他们俩在同剧飙戏，以后就没这机会再见到了？感觉可惜. . . . ！
这当然也不能漏了我所欣赏的演技派偶像瑞恩，虽说她的戏份并不多，（我还一度以为她只是演配角呢）但却是很用心的诠释剧中角色，内心戏拿捏得非常棒，让观众看了都会为她所饰演的剧中人物感到担忧，这就是所谓的引起共鸣吧！总之这是我看过的瑞恩最超水准的演出！
若将这作品与其他几出包括《当》，《游》及《红》剧作个比较，决不难发觉《我》剧才是水准之作！不像《当》剧那样无论怎么去看都觉得演员们只是拼命的在演戏，完全无法让观众引起共鸣！至于《红》剧更是下下之做，剧情感觉就像胡乱拼凑出来的，看各演员们就像为了演戏而演出，观众更是无法随着剧情发展而追看下去！除了几位新人的表现超烂之外；获得年度飞跃大奖得奖者的表现更是“开倒车”！还有洪慧芳的表现，咳，不知怎的“大失以往的水准”！

A few years ago, I was appalled by the standards of local tv when compared to their hong kong and korean counterparts. It turned me off completely but this show was a watershed. It has piqued my interest and captivated me with the fine and credible acting of its stellar cast. They have brought a script that seems to be a mish-mash of elements pulled from various sources and made it glow with strength. And I really believe that this show has answered many of rui en’s critics and demostrated her acting finesse very much.
Keep up the good work!
Can I also add that I’m a fan of rui en now? I regret dismissing her years ago.

Hi Paul, I remembered you said that Rui En will be appearing with a big tummy (meaning she will still be pregnant) in the later episodes of “With You”. But in today episode, she went for an abortion and does that mean you make a mistake the last time when you responded to my question?
Or did she change her mind halfway during her abortion (but the drama did not want to reveal it out first) and actually did not go for the abortion since that scene was shown in grey?

I am glad that this show has very high viewership. I think it is also very clever to have no trailers at end of show and for advertisements, so that viewer will always wonder what’s next?
The good acting also play a part. A lot of chemistry between the artistes. Chen Hanwei makes me feel very sad for someone who pass away suddenly with unfulfilled dreams. Rui En’s weeping scenes were well done. As for Adrian rather humouros but his acting seems exactly like what he did in Nanny Daddy. To prove his mantle he will have to deliver some other types of roles. Maybe there will be some sad scenes for him later as shown in the trailer?

I really enjoy this show a lot, and it’s not surprising to see high viewership for such a great show. The storyline is refreshing and overall the casts are very good.
Here are two very outstanding ones:
Rui En’s crying is really impressive in this drama. The way she brings out her emotions is very natural and can make me cry with her. Her acting has that powerful attractive forces that can make my eyes glued to the TV. She has proven that despite some of the little restrictions she had, she can still take up different type of roles. Not only those cool cool roles, but also that silly and cute Xiao Dong in Happy Family, and now the depressed Ye Siqi in With You. I really hope this time, heaven (and MCS) got eyes, and let the SA acknowledge the best ones out there.
Though I’m a fan of Rui En, I’ve to admit that Adrian Pang is another important reason why I like this drama. He is just the perfect person for the role Zhou Wen An. He is funny, comical, but yet not over-exaggerating. In this drama, Rui En makes me cry and sad. However, Adrian Pang manages to balance it out by making me laugh. I’m extremely impressed that though he is very weak in Mandarin, his articulations and pronunciations is ok in this drama, at least better that Nat Ho and some other artistes out there.
Hope that the viewership can continue to rise, and DVDs to be released soon. =)

Congrats – one of the better productions this year….thou the ‘ghost’ theme but heartwarming instead of ‘scary’. Lead actors/actresses (Rui En, Han Wei – thou I personally dun fancy him, Adrian, Shu Cheng) were cool…and most importantly, natural…not over-doing … Some supporting casts were good too – May Phua, Brandon, their kids, old lady (Zhu Xiu Feng) etc….. You left out somebody – fans of we know who (who is quiting in June) will boast that so and so is in the cast and getting associated with it … for winning the most fave actor this year etc…. and probably will gun for the award next year again cos mummy will garner more votes etc…).
Storyline has also created some suspense ….where we wonder who the other woman (Lina Ng) is ….

Agree and also a lot factors are involved in viewership. Any princess as one of the lead in a drama does not means the actress character is the main role that carried the whole drama, one have to look at the storyline, some dramas the focus is on the male actor, every episode audiences are following the male character development and story.

The success factor(mainly) is Adrian Pang + acceptable story line. I felt CHW + RE background stories should occupy the 1st+2nd episode to give us the nature of their relationships. Else we are ‘filling’ in ourselves why RE was she hurt so much by the loss of CHW. Admittedly, not easy for HW to act in the show by ‘himself’. However, AP seems to pull it off rather well. More importantly, as one poster above pointed out, in this show the focuses remain primary on AP+RE+HW and those sec characters remain in background. The dismal or sad point of ‘Red-white’ drama is that the focus shifted to too many 2nd rated actors. Case in point that Chlorine … er… Corrine overshadowed the 2 lead actress most of the time. Lastly, RE is impressive in this show. So far so good, fingers x. Btw, what’s coming up after this drama? I think this year offers is better than last year’s ones.

well, the show is also broadcast during the right period cause it’s aft the mid-terms exams so many kids/teens are able to watch this show to relax, in addition, though it might hav been a ghost-themed show, it is more of touching than scary and this catches the hearts of many to continue watching to know what will eventually happen to the characters.
The scriptwriter for this drama is smart in the sense that he/she knows how to cause a person watching the drama to feel for the characters, as though the characters are alive, and the storyline build-up creates suspense, which urges everyone to follow up with the show. Nobody can predict wad will happen to all the character eventually…
SO continue to watch on to know more!
Rui En could really cry in the drama.. really touching and she acting as a mum, is quite refreshing too.. (: i like all the artistes involved in this drama. Awesome^^

以目前的剧情来看，应该不会像之前的《红白》虎头蛇尾
《红白》刚看演员阵容很吸引人，首几集很好
不过看着看着，故事很杂乱,而且貌似非主角的演员在贯穿故事
戏和镜头都不太在女主角身上,似乎要成为挂名演出了。。。
《我在你左右》好太多了，故事情节清晰合理集中
让人有每集都追看下去的欲望，收视率不跌而是攀升

Great job to all of the actors and actresses in “With You”. I am particularly drawn to Rui En, Adrian Pang and Chen Shucheng’s acting. They were 3 of the more outstanding ones in the show. Rui En and Chen Shucheng were excellent in emoting out their feelings for their characters. I especially feel that Rui En did really well in her crying scenes. Chen Shucheng again never fails to portray out the role of a dad brilliantly. Adrian Pang’s character makes the drama enjoyable with his sense of humour and he is indeed a good actor who is always able to bring out his character very well to draw our attention to him. Jia you and I hope that the viewership for “With You” will continue to stay on the top of all 2010 channel 8 dramas!!!

Hi Paul, many mentioned the credits goes to the actors & actress but I think the story/script for this drama plays a very important role too…it is very different & refreshing from those typical type of dramas’ storyline…dramas with good actors & actresses but without a good storyline/script is useless either……I think the credits should goes most to the script-writer for this drama, may I know who he/she is? Dramas that he/she had written previously? Thanks! =)

Congratulations! Finally~ The strong cast made this drama a really good & watchable one.
Adrian Pang’s expressions never fail to make me laugh, adding a little humour to the show along with the emotional scenes of Rui En, who has been constantly improving, not excluding this time. She delivered her role well & naturally and it always feels very comfortable to watch her on TV. Well done, Rui En! (I’m still hoping there would be a chance for her to be nominated for Best Actress next year!)
The supporting actors & actresses are good as well. Although the character of Zhang Wei is bland, I agree with you that Brandon Wong has brought the character alive naturally without grabbing the limelight from the leads. Even May Phua’s change of her tone in talking is really convincing as an annoying and naggy wife. Not forgetting Nat Ho, he has definitely improved by a notch again, though his Chinese diction could be even better. =P

But With You is not over, as what someone (who sounds a little anti-RE) said in the earlier comments, all actors and actresses do need to know how to cry and emote (although I wouldn’t take it for granted because Chen Shu Cheng said that it’s not just about crying, it’s about evoking the emotions appropriately), so I’m also looking forward to Rui En in the rest of With You, to see how she proves that good acting isn’t just about crying.

Just like to add, I hope this year, Rui En finally has a chance to be nominated for Best Actress. A pity Adrian wouldn’t be eligible.
And I saw the clip by RBKD, still makes my heart breaks to see Rui En cry like that and is there a coincidence how the viewership improved after the trailers are taken off? :/

Adrian and Rui En! Adrian has a lot of charisma. And I absolutely enjoyed Rui En’s acting in this show. She belongs to the league of actors/actresses who can make audience cry and laugh with her. My friends started watching because of Adrian but were all impressed with Rui En’s acting along the way.
What else should I say about how great this show is? The acting! The chemical reaction between the fabulous cast saves the day! In order of merit: Adrian, Rui En & Chen Shu Cheng and then Chen Han Wei, Brandon Wong & May Phua. Does this goes to show that solid acting is what viewers want too? :/

I beg to differ but I don’t think this is the best show up-to-date this year. It is New Beginnings. This show is very nice at the start but towards the back, you’ll realize how stupid this show is. Very weak in terms of story line. I caught it on mobtv and it totally turned me off towards the back of the show. And.. I think Adrian Pang acted better than Chen Han Wei in this show. So a fifth Best Actor? No-no. In any case, Rui En tops the show with her crying scenes. Fabulously done. And Paul, anything on the evil sister role yet?

Yay!! ‘With you’ recorded the highest viewers! *thumbs up! I totally agree that this drama is worth to watch! I cried when ruien cried! Her crying scenes are a breakthrough ! Totally in love with ruien in that role! She did a super good job! I agree that adrain pang is popular with people. His role and expression in the show always makes me laugh. That’s so cute of him. As for chen hanwei, he is always good in protrating his role. No doubt he clinched the best actor award again! (: good job to all cast in the show! And of course the wonderful script!

Omg! Love this show a lot! All the actors and actresses did well in this show. Especially Adrain and Rui En.
Adrain’s little action always makes me laugh, he’s really comical.
Rui En bring my emotions along while watching the show.

Awesome!!!! I am so happy that “With You” has garnered such a high viewership from the audience. All the actors and actresses performance were great. Well done to Rui En as she really did a great job by proving to all of us again that she is not restricted to only acting certain roles. Her ability to portray a devasted and griefing widow in this drama showed that she is an excellent actress who can display her emotions openly according to the character.
Well done to Adrian Pang also for his funny and comical performance which is what we have been always admiring him for as his strength and he has certainly lighten up the drama by bringing in humour.

Is it coincidental that Adrian Pang can drive up viewership? The other time that baby drama he starred in also got the highest viewership? Or is Brandon Wong, as he was in housewives holiday, also got the highest viewership?

Paul, we love this drama so much.
Kudo to all there, they have chosen the very right character and good story.
Han Wei is very good. I prefer Han Wei like this, just be himself and deliver his role very very well.
Adrian Pang is super duper good. It’s really very enjoyable to watch him. This drama is really about him, he is the main character of everything. I am goin to miss him a lot as this is his last drama. He is really very talented.
Rui En, I love this girl. She really can act very well. It’s really enjoyable to watch her also.
Especially her scenes with Adrian.
I really hope out there Rui En dont always dress up in black. She looks very pretty in soft tone colors. Smile more and laugh more, always be happy.
Dont forget the daddy, Brandon, May Phua = they all are always very good actor/s.

It’s Adrian Pang who saved the drama with his comic streak & nothing else. C’mon which actress doesn’t know how to cry & emotes, esp one who has been in this line for 10 yrs?
It’s a pity he quits mediacorp & also precisely of this, Paul isn’t giving him any credit.

I normally tuned in to Starhub 855 but I watched With You because of Adrian Pang. He is a comical actor. I am not a fan of CHW and gets tired of hearing him appearing in many shows lately.

Rui En has done really well! and she again proves that she can be versatile! who says she can only act cool? ha
also, adrian pang has the charisma that makes audience like to watch him perform. imo, chen han wei still not quite there, prob coz acting as a ghost isnt easy.
most importantly, the story is captivating and details are very well taken care of. without a good script and storyline, this show would just be mediocre.

I think Rui En control emotions well. She led people to follow her emotions. From Ep 1 to Ep 3 I teared. She totally look like a mum. 加油加油！瑞恩真的跳出小冬的影子。完全沒有一點小冬的影子. Love the way she presented herself as SiQi. Very natural!
Adrian Pang is damn awesome. He is so funneh and he really know how to do his role well. Somehow I think Adrian Pang is more impressive than CHW.

Adrian Pang 彭耀顺 has a lot of 观众缘, he is very watchable in every scene. Like Chen Han Wei, he is one of those rare artistes who know exactly how to expand the scope of a role. Put the two together and you get hooked to the television.

i think kudos should also go to chen shucheng who put in a performance that’s very touching. his stoic father character in the show was very real.
