I smell ‘jealousy’. I smell ‘fear’. Isn’t it interesting that someone who was never in the top-of-mind recall as a host for the last 10 years could divide so many MediaCorp stars, hosts and producers into 2 camps this year? All because Aunty Lucy was nominated in the Best Host category in 红星大奖Star Awards 2010? Scared or what?

One camp strongly sided 周崇庆 Dennis Chew aka Aunty Lucy that he was worthy of a nomination. The other camp retaliated that he should be disqualified as he wasn’t even a ‘proper host’ in 女王本色 Paris & Milan but just a minor role-playing sidekick.

Judging from the poll I set up, Aunty Lucy scored more than 50% of the votes as netizens’ No.1 choice of Best Host. You can’t deny him of this well-deserving chance. Aunty Lucy was not even the main hosts in Paris & Milan (莫小玲 Pat Mok & 郑荔芬 Michelle Tay) but yet he became a well-loved classic character (the last time we had such a classic was when Jack Neo played 梁婆婆 Liang Po Po and 梁细妹 Liang Xi Mei and the characters in 城人杂志 City Beat played by Bryan Wong, Kym, Sharon and Lina). Did any award-winning hosts end up with a movie deal, commercial endorsements and countless events playing the same role within such a short span of time? Did any of them create a role so memorable it would probably be remembered 10 years from now? So embarrassing…

To strip Aunty Lucy of his Best Host nomination would be the most unfair thing to do in my opinion. 锺琴 Kym Ng won the Best Host award in 1998 and 1999. 欧菁仙 Sharon Aw won 4 times from 2000-2003. Both were nominated and won for their role-playing characters in 城人杂志 City Beat. So, you want to take back their trophies?

I have no doubt that Aunty Lucy would most probably become the biggest threat to the other 4 nominees and Producers of other programmes who failed to produce an ‘Aunty Lucy’…

What do you think? Worthy as a nominee?

I know fans and supporters out there won’t be able to attend as it is a trade event only for our top advertisers and agency clients. So, please do not turn up. I will blog with photos and videos after the event next week. You will also be able to preview those shows before the TV viewers even get to see them…so come back to this blog soon…

It was at the same trade show last year that the performance of 莫小玲 Pat Mok and 郑荔分 Michelle Tay led to the seed idea of ‘女王本色 Paris & Milan’ on Ch 8 eventually.

Pat Mok played an important key role for the last three years at the Trade Show injecting fun and laughter for my Channel 8’s segment. I am so glad I got her to help me again this year…

(Thanks Pat ah…for committing to the many rehearsals – now you got no more spare time to go shopping for high heel shoes liao…haha).

Must also thank Joanne Peh (maybe you can do your star-jump non-stop…haha) & Qi Yu Wu who will be coming to my store to play ‘tikam-tikam’ games.

Last but not least, thanking Jeanette for rushing down all the way in her ‘bee-hive’ hairdo from Malacca in the early morning and dashing back immediately after the show.

To maintain that ‘bee-hive’ hairdo, you probably have to sit upright all the way from Malacca to Singapore. You sure you can tahan?

When local host Mark Lee is caught in a 'face-off' situation with Taiwanese host Zeng Guo Cheng...

Singapore Got No Host 新加坡没主持人了吗? Our dear local host Mark Lee 李国煌 ain’t 省油灯 ok, he shot back at Taiwanese host Zeng Guo Cheng 曾国城 whose comment made at the last Star Award’s ceremony became entertainment news headlines…

Come Tuesday, the much publicised ‘Don’t Forget the Lyrics 我要唱下去’ world premiere of the first Mandarin version will debut on Channel 8 at 8pm. It will kick start with a special edition – the Comedians (Mark Lee 李国煌, Alamak 辉哥 and Michelle Tay aka 一大粒 of Paris & Milan).

As Mark Lee was busy filming another variety show and there was a production delay. Host Zeng Guo Cheng 曾国城, guests Alamak 辉哥, Michelle Tay aka 一大粒, the whole studio’s audience and production crew waited hours for his ‘Majesty’ to arrive. A visibly upset host just hanged on there waiting and waiting…

Mark Lee arrived finally (he literally swallowed his late dinner while doing his make-up). Though Mark was also visibly tired…he was very professional and jumped straight into the role as a guest contestant. Likewise, host Zeng Guo Cheng also did not show his displeasure on stage…

‘Singapore Got No Host 新加坡没主持人了吗’ sets the tone for one of the best TV moments in recent variety show’s history. Mark was daring to shoot Zeng Guo Cheng blatantly and Zeng Guo Cheng knew exactly how to ’siam’ and hit back. All such moments were totally ‘unrehearsed’ and only the best hosts were capable to pull through. It was truly a night of the best local talent versus foreign talent.

Together with Alamak 辉哥 and Michelle Tay aka 一大粒 (Paris & Milan), this episode also wrapped up recording in the shortest time! Usually, a recording would last longer than an hour so that there would be enough interesting scenes to be edited into a tight one hour show. Well…not this one. The Executive Producer told me it was so fast paced and injected with the right climaxes that came fast and naturally, the Editor’s job was made alot easier.

If the show is submitted for any Asian and International TV Best variety competition, this episode with the comedians will surely be chosen as an entry for submission. It is that good. No bull.

Singapore Got No Host 新加坡没主持人了吗? You decide and tell me what you think after you have seen the ‘Mark Lee face off with Zeng Guo Cheng’ in ‘Don’t Forget The lyrics 我要唱下去’ on Tuesday at 8pm on Channel 8.

Don’t Forget The Lyrics Road Show 我要唱下去-宣传活动

Aunty Lucy revealed her fear of the hairy Dai Yang Tian...

Before she becomes a movie star soon and ‘bo hill’ me later (she is the ‘cover girl’ of U Weekly this week and her fan club registered close to 600 fans!)…I faster grabbed ‘Aunty Lucy’ online…and she revealed her fear of the very hairy Dai Yang Tian…

Paul: What job does Aunty Lucy take up besides ‘bitching’ on TV?

Aunty Lucy: Aiyo…. so embarassing, I always freelance here freelance there, anywhere need me I go lor, I everything also can do one but don’t ask me to sell my body, that one very precious one…. aiyo so embarassing…

Paul: Is Aunty Lucy still single or married? Any kids? Husband does what for a living?

Aunty Lucy: Husband passed away liao lor…. got left some money for 2 kids (elder daughter and a younger son), 1 just graduate from NUS, 1 still poly lor…

Paul: If Aunty Lucy is still single, what kind of man would she be interested in? ‘Old cow eats young grass guy’ type like Dai Yang Tian?

Aunty Lucy: Aiyo i saw Dai Yang Tian once at MediaCorp, he’s with my neighbour, that 933DJ Chong Qing lor… DYT very courteous, got said hello to me, his leg very hairy I a bit scared so I think I prefer Zhang Zhen Huan, Aiyo so embarassing…. u all always ask me this type of question I don’t know how to answer leh!!!!

OK, enough of Aunty Lucy and here’s the real thing from the star who plays Aunty Lucy – Mr Dennis Chew aka Zhou Chong Qing 周崇庆 (Yes 933 DJ):

Paul: How did you feel when you first heard about becoming the movie’s main leading star?

Chong Qing: 我其实来不及反应，太突然了。。。有种不要来骗我的感觉。

Paul: You have been around in this entertainment industry for a long time and do you feel your talent has been ‘bypassed’, ‘ignored’ and not ‘appreciated’ until now?

Chong Qing: 其实不管是电视组还是电台方面；都对我不错，以前我每一年都至少有一个电视节目做。只是我身份比较尴尬，像一个电视艺人但其实是个全职DJ。

Paul: Though Pat Mok and Michelle Tay ware main hosts in ‘Paris & Milan’, the show’s supporting star ‘Aunt Lucy’ has completely swept them aside and became the main attraction. Do you think they secretly hate you or curse you behind your back…ah?

Chong Qing: 这个讲了会哭，她们其实很为我开心，so embarrassing…

Paul: We all know Chong Qing as a happy cum funny guy but how would you describe the real ‘Chong Qing’? Sensitive? Scared of tomorrow? Needs to be assured of being loved?

Chong Qing: 真正的崇庆不太爱讲话，我知道你们很难相信，我真的可以很静。

我很幸福，身边有很多爱我的朋友。

偶尔我喜欢一个人的感觉，一个人旅行，一个人看电影，一个人的KTV。

Paul: Ever thought of an ‘Aunty Lucy’ radio show?

Chong Qing: 当然有想过但AuntyLucy要有visual才会好看！

Paul: Is the movie’s ‘Aunty Lucy’ gonna be more ‘high-class’ – get better hair and clothes as the wig in ‘Paris & Milan’ is kinda low budget?

Chong Qing: 一定会！最好是有David Gan 来帮她做头发。

Paul: OK I wish Aunty Lucy 发发发 maybe can take over all beauty endorsement deals from Fann Wong soon lor…haha…(Happy Birthday to Zhou Chong Qing too!).

Can tell from Pat Mok’s blog that the reigning Queen of Comedy Pat Mok 莫小玲 (whose blog has been resurrected at: http://blogs.xin.sg/patmok/) is personally very happy for Chong Qing who has finally ‘made it’ with ‘Aunty Lucy’ in his rather tepid career as an artiste. Comedians may not be placed on the high pedestal to be worshipped like Ah Ge, Ah Jie and Princesses, but they have contributed a lot to bring us entertainment too.

Hope you will all support Chong Qing when his ‘Aunty Lucy’ movie is ready. And don’t forget the understated Michelle Tay aka 一大粒and Ben Yeo 杨志龙as the double season of ‘Paris & Milan’ ends its run on Channel 8. Pat Mok, the brilliant comedian also needs your kind understanding and support. Behind that ‘xiao’ image is a bunch of real men and women in search of true love, hopes and dreams.

Can Kelvin Tan Wei Lian 陈伟联 make it this rime round?

This morning I am abit puzzled…when I opened up my email and saw the guest list of stars scheduled to compete in multiple celebrity versions of soon to telecast Ch 8’s ‘Don’t Forget The Lyrics 我要唱下去’ (this is also world’s first Mandarin version from the original format) hosted by 曾国城.

The game requires contestants to pick songs from a menu and continue singing the right lyrics when the words disappear from the screen at any point of the song’s duration.

One of the celebrity contestants is Kelvin Tan Wei Lian 陈伟联 who will be up against Sing Chew Xin Huey 石欣卉and Joi Chua 蔡淳佳 in the same session. I have to assume that Wei Lian must have super-memory (otherwise – very unfair and malu lah) as it would be many times tougher than his fellow contestants who could sing to the lyrics when they appear on the screen.

Besides the above, expect to see the other combinations:

Comedians: Mark Lee + Henry Thia aka Alamak + Michelle Tay aka 一大粒 of ‘Paris & Milan’

Hosts: Kym Ng + Quan Yi Feng + Jeff Wang

933 DJs: Zhou Chong Qing (possibly as Auntie Lucy) + Jia Hui + Jia Fa

(Hehe…this will be Jia Fa’s 1st TV debut and I know many TV Producers will be watching you to see if you have ’IT’ to cross over as a TV host like Pornsak)

Pre-recording of the sessions will be taking place over this long weekend (no more admission tickets as all already been snapped up by fans liao).

‘Don’t Forget The Lyrics 我要唱下去’ world’s debut of its first Mandarin version will kick start with a TV special immediately right after the National Day Parade telecast on Ch 8 (of course on 9 August lah). The proper telecast will begin on 25 August, every Tuesdays at 8pm on Channel 8.
