A Little Recognition Please.

Sezairi’s triumphant win last Sunday created one hell of a stir amongst Singaporeans. With the issue of, “Another Malay idol?!”. What is wrong with that? Why can’t another “brown guy” - quoted by Sezairi; win the competition?
Sylvia and Sezairi are off two different talent, it’s just like a Kris Allen and Adam Lambert finale. Unfortunately, reality check; it has to be only one winner. If it was up to me, come on, i‘ll crown them both, and maybe Tabitha as well. I received comments saying that the votes should be partially shared with the judges and the public.I’m sorry to say, we can’t change the Idol format; and it applies internationally. In American Idol, or so all votes are accounted for by the public and the judges only have their say during the weekly shows.
If you say, it’s about time for a change in format, the ownership of show might just say the exact words together with an evil stare. Gah.

Same goes, “It’s about time for a female Singapore idol,’ but dreams were dashed because the crown went to Sezairi. I say, if you really wanted a female idol; why didn’t you vote? Pretty much said over and over again. I’m satisfied with either one who wins because each individual portrays a different kind of musicality and vocal tone to the local music industry. You have good looks diva quality Whitney Houston [Sylvia] and original soulful John Legend [Sezairi] here. There’s no way i would compare.
In my very own opinion, Sezairi owned the stage during the finals and his performance came off very sincere and much more convincing. Of course Sylvia gave a tough fight with her to die for vocals and good looks.

I was quite appalled with the Newpaper headline, “The End of Idol?” Come on, judging from the facts of the amount of views from season 1 was way higher. It does make sense because afterall, Season 1 is the first ever Idol show in Singapore but to compare with Season 3? There’s one thing missing, the upkeep of technology throughout the years. Within a span of 5 years, various kinds of viewing media developed.
You’ve got blogs, Youtube, Mobtv, Hubstation; all these various media that doesn’t has it’s rating views counted in. You’d never know, the views might be higher than before. From my opinion, the 8,000 strong crowd at the Indoor Stadium that day proves so much of having hype and keen interests from the public about the show, plus i found out finale tickets are sold at Ebay and the highest amount bidded so far went to a whopping $200.
Say, doesn’t that portray, a pretty high demand for the show.
Lacklustre? Not good looking? No star quality?
I say, it’s all crap. We can groom these qualities. Sezairi may not be that drop dead good looking hunk, but one thing for sure his passion for music burns deep in him. The talent that has been bestowed upon him together with his knowledge about music just puts him onto a level of much respect, but nope i don’t think the disgruntled public sees that. They just see it as another, Malay guy.
Why can’t we put the race issue aside. We say it almost everyday when we were young or at least, us Singaporeans; it’s embedded in us, “Regardless of race, language and religion..” When someone told me, “but not gender.” OH MAN, come on, are we still living when women are supposed to be housewives and men brings home the bread? There’s equality among all of us; the capabilities of both genders are on par; why differentiate? The only difference is physicality, which sometimes can be off an added advantage or not. Guys come on, again from the pledge, “based on justice and equality.”
I believe if Sylvia would have gotten the title, there would be unhappy opinions as well because of her mixed parentage, i shall not even go there.

HOW DO YOU GUYS GET SATISFIED? Why can’t another Malay win the idol? We’ve got an Indian President, we’ve got a Chinese Prime Minister, can’t we have a Malay Singapore Idol? They say, he won votes because he has almost the entire Malay community backing him up. Maybe it’s true, but i don’t think the entire Malay votes would make up the winning amount, afterall; they’re not the major race in Singapore.
We work hand in hand, i believe there are non-malays who gave in a vote or two for the boy. I know 24hours after his win, there are online petitions about “Sylvia should be the Idol”, “Sezairi doesn’t deserve the title!”, you know what.. WHY BOTHER, it happens during every elimination round. I’m totally not surprised because it is pretty much the norm? Then again, the public can say whatever they want. As long it doesn’t go over the limit.

Hmmm. It’s about time for some recognition for our newly crowned idol. How about, a nice congratulatory headlines for a change? Newpaper, hear that? I truly believe, Sezairi would definitely work hard to sustain his title. He is all about the love and compassion, point proven above. The note taken from his fanpage written by him personally in his defense of spreading love amongst the fans when he saw hate comments on his other fellow contestants fanpage.
Spread the love instead of hate, because all we need is a little bit of love. Sezairi, will definitely groom himself to be better than he is now. He made alot of others proud. With the tough beginnings he has to face, he will definitely grow to be even more mature than what he is now.
Without a doubt, he will walk with his head held high, and embrace his title with no regrets because i know he deserves it.

I’m a fan of Sylvia’s but she messed up big time on her second number, “Yellow” and the first part of “Touched By An Angel”. I was voting for her when she was performing Mercy. But when it came to the other 2 songs, i made a swing vote and decided that Sezairi was the better performer during the final showdown. What a pity.. when the case of the jitters caused Sylvia her crown. And btw, am i the only one who felt uncomfortable seeing MJ sharing the stage with the other finalists? He didn’t deserve to be there. Sorry, MJ. You’re cute and look great on tv but what were they thinking when they asked you to perform with the rest??
Hey all. Personally, I really like this entry because every statement of yours did make sense. Like c’mon. Stop having issues of “why is he the idol? why malay again?why male again?” Instead of asking too much questions and being judgemental, why not we together as one support our local talents right? Without the support from our own nation, then who will? Singapore is just a small country. It’s undeniable that our current S.I 2009, Sezairi Sezali did performed beyond prospects during the finals and I’m proud of him. He’s AWESOME.
& to Sylvia, of course I’m pretty much ecstatic too because she’s the 1st female finalist even though she did not take a hold of the diadem. But after all, in every competition, there can be only one conqueror. So people, I know how it feels when the person whom we cast our votes to did not win. As a final say, these local talents need our support, not our disparagement. All the best to both Sezairi and Sylvia:)
It’s not a matter of gender over here. It’s the matter of religion. Referring to your quote: “We’ve got an Indian President, we’ve got a Chinese Prime Minister, can’t we have a Malay Singapore Idol?” – This is true. BUT, take note, there are already 3 Malay Singapore Idols. It isn’t fair, because for the continuous 3 years, it is always a Malay who won that title. You might think that I’m being very racist and all, but this is just my point of view. Just for once, couldn’t they let a non-Malay person win? In the first place, why ask Singaporeans to vote? Hardly do Chinese people watch Singapore Idol. And the population of Indians are too little. So obviously majority of the voters will be Malays, and they’d support Malays because it’s their own religion (based on what I’ve seen in RL)
If we had to really vote on Singapore Idol, why not do so for every round, EXCEPT for the finals? It would have been much better if the judges were the one who made the final decision, and not Singapore. Singaporeans would obviously go for the looks, and appearances instead of vocals.
WHATS UP WITH SINGAPORE! i mean please, if you guys dun want sezari to win just cause he is a malay then your wrong. cause sezairi has his talents and he deserves to win. he is not just another male malay singapore idol, he is more than that. If ppl out there thinks that Sezairi does not deserve it, then you should think again, you guys should ask yourself, did you vote for the idol you liked or did you really vote for real talent or you just wanted a change in singapore idol? Sezairi is really awesome in many ways and if you guys think he does not deserve the idol spot, then you should really question yourself why.
In my opinion i think that all the top 12 idols should be singapore idols, cause they are all like a winner. (:
I am a fan of Sylvia. However, in my opinion, I do feel that Sezairi deserves the idol title too. I mean, both contestants have come this far. Likewise, if Sylvia won, she deserves it too. Both of them deserve the title in their own way.
I read on newspapers that most of Sezairi’s votes came from the Malay community. I think this is rather true, due to the fact that the Malay community is actually very close-knit. They would, of course support their own race. However, nobody can deny the fact that Sezairi has that musical talent and the capability to sing. It’s annoying when people who don’t really watch idol but keeps emphasizing the fact that Sezairi is just another Malay winner who can’t really sing. The fact is, he CAN sing and he’s talented. He deserves that title.
On the other hand, Sylvia has the potential too. No doubt about that. She is the vocal powerhouse and has continuously brought good performances to the show this season. Whenever she sings on stage, you just can’t help but to feel what she’s singing. It’s as if she’s unfolding a story through her song every time. It touches people’s hearts. Don’t you all agree that both Sezairi and Sylvia has different strengths? They are two different people, with two different personalities and qualities.
And with regards to the finals, it is no doubt that Sezairi had sung the final song ‘Touched by an Angel’ way better than Sylvia. Sylvia faltered much in that final song. I think it’s probably my first time when I felt really touched listening to Sezairi sing.
Why can’t people just overlook the fact that Sezairi’s a Malay guy? Yes, everyone’s hoping for a female idol this season. So? Did you vote enough for Sylvia to win? The answer’s no, so stop grumbling or complaining. It’s over, the verdict’s out. This win’s supposed to be a happy one for Sezairi. Like realizing his dream, finally. Now, his talents are being overshadowed by the fact that he’s just another Malay Singapore Idol guy winner. It’s pretty sad, really.
But whatever it is, I guess this big hoo-ha will die down sooner or later. I hope Sezairi won’t be brought down by all these racist remarks by people.
NO, he does not have the package – Ken Lim on blogTV
ISn’t all these nonsense sounds very sexist and racist? what are all of you thinking? very typical of singaporeans. just be frank if all of you are sexist or racist. next competition make it a Singapore FEMALE Idol for those people who wants the guys not to win. or a Singapore MALE Idol for those who wants the ladies not to win. OR Have a Singapore MULTI RACIAL Idol Competition where there will every winner for each racial groups in Singapore not forgeting PR status too… HAHaHA! NEway, Voting competition is meant to be like this. Actualy if you people analyse, Singapore voters have good taste in voting their idols. The 1st and 2nd Singapore Idol are good examples where the voters know what they like. Hardy was the Asian Idol and he came from Singapore. Voters all around Asia voted him as their Favourites and not their idols and yet he won because he got the most ‘Favourites’ votes. So what else can you say… A vote is a vote! Well done and congrates to our 3rd Singapore Idol…. More Singapore IDols in the future!
