What type of Boss do you have?

26 01 2012

In every different working environment, there are bound to be a variation of bosses.

Some will whine and complain during happy hours, while some might not even have the chance to as one struggles with over time all day long.

So what type of boss do you exactly have?

We have narrowed down for you the 4 categories of bosses. Let’s see which category does your boss fall in, shall we?

1. The Cold Robot Boss – “Enough of the jokes, what is on agenda for today’s meeting?”

Characteristics:
This boss brings no form of emotional baggage to the office table. In no way will you be able to locate any form of emotions on him. He is driven and would rather just dive strictly into business matters. Hence, so often you find yourself lacking the interpersonal connection with him and you hardly socialize with him after office hours.

What you can do:
Deal with it. On the bright side, you will be disciplined and learn to get things done efficiently. However, this does not mean you can’t find your office pals and chit-chat to make yourself feel better. ;)

2. Your Best Pal – “Hey, wanna go for a game of golf?”

Characteristics:
He is friendly, outgoing and wants to be your friend instead of your boss. He is more than delighted to ask you for a session of drinks after office hours just to chill out and get to know you better. And you’d always find yourself in situations whereby you have to laugh at all his jokes even when it’s not funny- Awkward!

What you can do:
Always keep relationships with your boss at a professional level. You do not wish to find yourself having to be stuck in between an awkward or complicated situation whereby colleagues will be bad-mouthing about you. So strike a balance between professionalism and friendliness! You don’t always have to feel obligated to say “Yes” to every invitation.

3. The Idea Adventurer – “Any ideas, anybody?”

Characteristics:
This guy is still as business minded alike “The Cold Robot Boss”. However what separates him from the rest is that he is open-minded and receptive to any form of brainstorming ideas. In fact, he is more than welcome for every employee to contribute to a sea of ideas for the company.

What you can do:
Make use of this opportunity to build your resume of ideas and upgrade yourself in the market in terms of employability!

4. The Encourager –“Do your best.”

Characteristics:
This boss is perhaps THE boss everyone wants to have. He is optimistic, fun-loving and yet encouraging at the same time. He cares a fair amount about his employee’s welfare and never stops encouraging them while also striking a balance to meet business goals. He makes the environment more fun than it actually seems!

What you can do:
Be thankful and appreciative. Perhaps, staying true, loyal and just doing your best while working to your fullest capability will spur you to get further in your career!

So have you figured out what type of boss is yours?
